Title: The Curse Remains
Description: still I am not able to develope...

Marius - February 27, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
Hi Cris,

I just have installed the latest DimX on one of my so called "cursed" machines...
Sorry to say but the games dont work... its the same like last year. I have installed Tomcat(Apache Tomcat/5.0.28) and have a running Java (j2sdk-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p)
The 1st page at:

http://localhost:8080/dimx/

is ok but still EVERY game links to "the beach"... the admin panels show the right versions and say the names of the different demo games.
But when checking the -> go to game box all games link to "the beach"... even different links like:

http://localhost:8080/dimx/servlet/multiplayer?game=15
http://localhost:8080/dimx/servlet/multiplayer?game=11
http://localhost:8080/dimx/servlet/multiplayer?game=19

they all lead to "the beach"

I noticed the following: When connecting to the game the "you are about to play ..." screen is not removed but the panels change into game panels.
Players that disconnect keep connected on the server so they add on and on

Hmmm... I'm clueless
:(

Do you have an idea?
PS I NEED to develope on my laptop now if I want to continue with my game!

Hope you have another good idea...
Marius

Very strange.

All I can say is that we dropped Java 1.4.2 and Tomcat 5.0 so nowadays the reference architecture is

Java 1.5 (also said Java 5.0)

and

Tomcat 5.5

I'm afraid this won't change anything.

Before producing the latest releases, I have checked the HTTP headers produced by DimX with a special tool and made them equal to that produced by a dynamic site built with PHP... I can confirm there was a header problem which, on IE, was producing the effect you claimed. IE didn0t understand that the pages shouldn't be cached, and when the pages were placed on IFRAMES, it was getting always the old version from the cache regardless the game=XX parameter. On Firefox everything was running fine, though, while on your machine I remember it didn't work too.

If the problem persists you could further investigate it by installing this special tool (is called HttpWatch but also the IE developer toolbar will do the same).
I can e-mail you these tools if you're curious.
Basically they work like this: you push a button on the browser and - from that moment on - you see all details of each request/response that is sent/received by the browser.... so you can see exactly what parameters it passes and what expire date it gets back.

Hello,

the problem is still there with Mozilla and opera too...
Yes please end me the tool. I will then send the logs or what will be the outcome back to you, Cris.
I am sure I won't understand anything since I am a straight user and not a html crack at all

:(

Maybe you can then tell what's going wrong?!
Have a nice weekend.

I will send it to you along and I will record a video so that you can see how to do some test and diagnose the problem.

It is indeed a good tool to help you understand what's going on.

Let me some day to prepare it - finding an hour of spare time without people jumping in, calling or intterrupting (incl. wife) is becoming more and more difficult!

Hi Cris,

great. Maybe/hopefully we will then be able to solve my problem together?!
Take your time and - don't forget your wifey -
I speak from experience that they can get "not amused" from seeing their guy "DimXing" ...
Sometimes I wished she had a panel with a button "stop complaining", he he, just kidding
;)

talk to you soon

Hello Cris,

I just noticed the following- maybe it helps you to detect the bug/ misconfiguration that I suffer from...
When copying the url (wich is the adress I can play the international version with my Mozilla):

http://www.gamesclan.it:8080/dimx/servlet/...1280&height=800

to my IE, it leads to the wrong italian version of UW.
But after the log in there is only the button to log out and the background scene does not change at all.
Thats a similar behaviour like the local "cursed" installation does.

Greetings and talk to you soon,
$AGENT.Marius

Yes, and that's the proof it's a problem in a browser which badly understands caching policies and expiry dates of pages - it does that on most situations!

Holla,

please send me the diagnosis file you told me about earlier.
Thx
