Dear all,
as you probably know, on DimensioneX website we recommedn using Java SE 1.5.
Currently Java 1.5 is a little outdated and this choice may make people think DimensioneX is outdated too.
Simply put, it runs fine on Java 1.5 and upgrading to Java 1.6 just produced to my PCs a performance slowdown without a counterpart on any point.
Please! let me know:
- If you are using Java 6 (1.6) currently
- If DimensioneX runs under it
- Problems, difficulties encountered if any
and finally
- if you recommend me to update all the docs (as well as my own install) to use this Java release.
Thanks for your contribution!
I actually still use Java 1.4 on occassion for certain things, and Java 1.5 for everything else. I too have had issues with Java 1.6, but mostly with older programs that don't recognize Java 1.6.
My thoughts would be to update the documentation showing that Java 1.6 is supported (if it is), but that Java 1.5 is the preferred JVM for performance.
I don't believe I am using Java 1.6 in my DimensioneX development, but then I'd have to actually go back and look at my Vista box and see for sure. I have used both Vista Home Premium and XP Pro for DimensionX development.
(No, I don't have a working game URL just yet!)
OK, I just confirmed that the "default" version of Java on my Vista box is 1.6. If the DimenstioneX development setup uses the default version of Java on the box then I have been using 1.6 without any problems. Unfortunately, I'm not anywhere near my Vista box right now to be able to check anything else!

I just switched to Java 1.6 and have had no problems so far with it.
OK so now I know that it runs fine with 1.6.
Thanks to all, I will update the docs asap.
