Hello,
My name is danius, i signed up to the dimenstionex newsletter awhile ago, and today i decided to "give it a go", im as new as they come, but it seemed to look easy for how it was being described, i followed the tutorial, and read this and read everything basically.

Dear All, we recently discovered that the latest DimensioneX 5.5.0 ZIP package had an incorrect folder structure, preventing it to work properly.
The problem has been already fixed. Our downloads section now contains the fixed file, the version number remains the same (5.5.0).
If you see that your
tomcat/webapps
folder contains a WEB-INF folder, with dimensioneX files inside, well that is the result of the wrong packaged ZIP file. You can safely delete (or move away) that folder without harming anything.
Simply re-download the dimensionex550.zip package and re-unpack into webapps. Now it will work.

i downloaded this today, and it still has the folder WEB-INF with the files inside btw.
The problem is, i dont have a clue whats going wrong, im following your tutorials and readme files, and its just not working, i have tomcat and java installed, as it says on the downloads page and followed that step-by-step, could someone please give me a basic, step-by-step what to do from downloading, i am very interested in making a game, i belive id do well, but i cant because their must be something im doing wrong,
-yours danius.
ps.. i dont know if its me being new to all this, because the readme file, and the tutorials, all seem to contridict themselves?

Hi Danius,
the e-mail that you are quoting is very old and does not apply to the current release, version 5.5.5. Please download the latest version and readme and forget about it.
Next, by following the README exactly you should be able to properly install and run DimensioneX. The tutorials have other scopes so you shouldn't read them until DimensioneX is properly running on your system.
Try starting with the README and, when you're blocked, post again here mentioning exactly the problem you've run into.
In order to bring help you better, it would be useful to to know which Operating system you use, and the versions of Java and Tomcat.
I am confident you will be able to develop your own game sooon on DimX.

Hi cris,
im using windows ME, and the versions of tomcat and java i got of your downloads page are, Tomcat 4.1.31 and Java2 Standard Edition (J2SE) 1.4.2 SDK.
i downloaded dimX 5.5.5. and it looks like the old one from what im reading, it has the WEB-INF folder inside, which i belive its that whats causing it from not working because it cant find the target path or something?, i think mabe you have zipped the wrong files. please check, and get get back to me.
thankyou - danius.

Hi Danius,
Java 1.4.2 and Tomcat 4.1 are OK.
The dimx package is OK, please make sure you are unpacking its content into your
tomcat/webapps
folder, by preserving the folder structure of the files inside the ZIP.
Once the unpacking has finished, in
webapps
you should find a new folder named
dimx
which in turn has a
WEB-INF folder.
This is the correct behaviour and the dimx server will run immediately.
If not, the unpacking operation was done the wrong way. In this case, please post again and tell me which tool you used. WinZIP? WinRAR?

I think that on XP you will be doing fine.
On my machine I have 3 installations: one under Tomcat 4.1, one under Tomcat 3.3 and one under Tomcat 5, all of them are running happily.
