Title: Dimensionex Developers Reference
Description: Collaborative Work on it

Cris - June 8, 2008 09:27 AM (GMT)
Hi all,
I have tried out Google Docs, and it is possible to keep there and work collaboratively on documents that were originally written in MS Word format.

For instance, this is the DimensioneX Readme:

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ddgw8hz2_2cqhjd3hh

It is not a WIKI, but however I can enable anyone having a @gmail.com account to work on it.

For the Developer's Reference, it seems not straightforward - The upload feature accepted a version trimmed up to 500 Kb and the current file is 1.8 MB. Probably content can be added in steps.

If someone is interested in helping me in it and/or working on a shared document, just let me know, and we arrange it.

Cris,

I can help with the doc for those portions I'm most familiar with. Specifically, expanding or adding the parts concerning the new features I recently added.

Hello,
I have started to copy + paste the Developer's reference inside Google Docs and I have got a first Google Docs URL also for the devref now.

Unfortunately I would not go on - it looks like a long process because of uploading of all images and the usability of the final result is far below the level of my previous PDF format, which had side bookmarks and inner liks...

I think that we could leave this idea open and see what happens.

Unless there is really need for working collaboratively on the documentation it is better to leave the Developer's Reference like it is now.

Perhaps things may get better if we move towards a WIKI solution: this one at least manages well inner links and does an automatic Table of Contents. With Google Docs I have to maintain it by hand (HORRIBLE! no way!)

Cheers
