Title: GFX Starting Tips
Description: Create This Thread

Faiyukan - September 16, 2007 12:49 PM (GMT)
Perhaps we should create a thread giving a few tips for people who'd like to start doing graphics, and possibly give them a few links to tutorials, to examples, or to websites which actually train graphic designers? Maybe we could sticky it into the Fan Art board as well?

I'm not going to do this because I can't give something as in depth as something Axel, Shiroko, or SPZ could create. Maybe we should create a little team to create this? If so, I nominate:

Levia (If she's here)
Feez
Axel
SPZ
Shiroko
Z. Tech
Orochi Iori

It's not a bad idea. But usually, we just help them in their own graphics thread. But I don't mind either way if we make a thread specificly for people to ask for tips. If there's support from the other GFXers, then I'll go ahead and do it.

Alright, is it ok if I PM the people I nominated about this thread?

Orochi Iori - September 16, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
Sure, why not? It's ok with me, but the problem is, some of us have already joined teams, like I'm a Barrel Roller, SPZ is some awesome team [>_>], and Z. Tech is in Team Eon.
:hmm:

Saint PhantomZero - September 17, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
He doesn't mean an actual team. He just means like a staff. >_>

You don't even have to create another Group in the Admin Panel, it's just temporary for you guys to gather info and tips and just create the thread.

I know this is dead, but it was just getting good....

I see what you mean. But, to cover all such information will take forever 'cause keep in mind there will always be a different style to imitate or cope with. Art never stops growing, so, yeah....
>_>

Fonts
daFont - Easily the best font site out there.
FreeFonts - A search engine for fonts, useful assuming you know what font you're looking for.
WhatTheFont? - Useful tool for finding out the names of fonts, just input an image and it'll do the rest of you.
FontFreak - Another free font site.

Brushes
deviantART - A great resource for indy brushes, as well as many other resources.
Photoshop Support - A Photoshop site that has a brushes section.

Tutorials
Good Tutorials - Easily the biggest Photoshop tutorial site out there. If a technique, style, or tool isn't described in here, it probably doesn't exist.
Planet Photoshop - Another Photoshop site that has plenty of tutorials.
The Design World - A site I like to use for advice on Photoshop-made templates. They also have a handful of high-quality tutorials for normal graphics.

happy?

Orochi Iori - October 16, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Aren't we suppose to make the tutorials...? What's the point of making a staff if we just point them to where they should just help themselves.... Besides, I think people already know about these sites.

We should just make a thread explaining the basics, and then recommending several programs, Like Photoshop, or Gimp. Then, we should make a turorial for every [or some] piece of art that the people find most appealing.

Feez - October 16, 2007 02:04 AM (GMT)
Well you can go ahead and do that. I don't care enough for this place to dedicate time and energy to write tutorials. o_O

Making tutorials take a long time if you don't know, so we'd need some incredibly dedicated people doing this, aka not pendant.

A thread about tips/suggestions or something makes more sense then say, a tutorial sub-forum where half the people at the board aren't even great gfxers.

Orochi Iori - October 16, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind taking the time to do a tutorial.

And, yes, that would be pretty nice.

Precisely.

I don't really mind giving tips or anything... provided it's reasonable. I'm not going to give a step-by-step process on how I think up text and stuff.

Sorry for not seeing this earlier.

Basically, what Feez is saying. Many of us aren't good enough to be creating tutorials. We're still trying to get better ourselves, so we're in no place to do something like that. I don't mind giving people some advice, but creating tutorials and all that is a time-consuming job for the more veteran (and willing) artists.

Not to mention personally, although selfish, I like keeping a few of my tricks to myself, although that shouldn't really matter.

If anyone hasn't noticed, the title of this thread has the word tips in it, and I requested for a thread with some tips in it, and LINKS to tutorials as some additional help. I never asked anyone to actually take the time and create a tutorial. This is doable, without taking loads of time to do it, and we already have the links to the tutorials.
