This is my Literature assignment.

I got some help from Saito... only in some parts.

Prologue: The Child of Light and The Child of Dark

I have always wondered how it is possible for life to be so unpredictable. I have seen, as far as my age, all the things I needed to see at this point in time, and I am to expect more in the future. I do not seek answers as to why, but I would seek answers for questions that I know I could reach.

Humans are eternal. Eternal, in the sense that they have been doomed to wander the earth for as long as their genes permit, or as long as they can. Though they are eternal, they are mere mortals, able to experience the eternal cycle of life and death. Unknowingly, they are being reborn, killed by death, and be reborn again. None can recall this, and so it is left unanswered...

...but what was the question? If humans are indeed experiencing the eternal cycle of life and death, then is it possible for them to recall their past lives? We do not know.

Sighing, I looked through my glass window, and watched from afar the streets that is full of people. Looking at their faces, I could see their smiles, their happy, pitiless lives. Yet, I do not know if this facade is either strong or real. I do hope that they remain as happy as they are.

Optimism does wonders, doesn't it?

I looked above those individuals, and stared at the sky. It amazes me so. It watches idly above everyone, yet we watch it. It seems great that such a big entity, if it was, can produce such peacing atmosphere. It is a good thing that there is light, so that such beauty is appreciated.

I looked indirectly at the source of all light, the sun (since by fact you can't directly stare at the sun, for it will definitely hurt your eyes). It amazes me as how this simple ball of fire illuminates the whole world while giving warmth to counter the cold. Then, it hit me. 'It' being a question, just to pique your interest. 'What'll happen if the world was shrouded by darkness? When the light of the sun was erased?' Of course, by logic, it would definitely be cold and dark.

Other than that, what? 'Would the hearts of the people be shrouded by darkness, too? Should this darkness show these people each other's shadows? I hope not.'

And so I pray. I pray with all my heart to the Lord.

I opened my eyes, still it was there.

I tried doing it again after a few minutes, still, it is there.

Am I really awake, or is this a product of my imagination? Am I even real? Sighing loudly, I could almost assure to myself that I am still alive.

Almost.

I can't see anything. I don't even know what I look like. I am quite sure before that I am not blind, but now I am unsure. It's been years since I last saw the light, and how I miss its warmth. Yet, I have been accustomed to the darkness for so long that I have grown familiar with it. I then remembered my childhood – when I was still able to see the light. Oh, how I wish I could see it again.

And there it was, yet I didn't love that kind of light. This fake light, that is shown to me by the small bulb, is slowly filling my place. I can see it now, my bed, my hands – everything. I then stood up and hurried to my mirror, which is just about my left. I looked up at the familiar face on that mirror. I traced his face, as I did mine. I am glad to see my violet hair and eyes. My skin's still smooth as ever, and my built didn't change much – not too muscular but fit. If I do say myself, I would say I a downright sexy. But none of it matters, since there is someone knocking on the door.

I hurriedly fixed myself and the place up and opened the door. There I stood before a woman, showing a fake smile, as it seems to me, and looking at me with bloody-red eyes. I motioned for her to come in, and so she did.

She sat down on the chair, and I asked for her business. She said something that is familiar to me, but I could vaguely remember. Then before she left, she had left me with these worlds: “This world is about to end, young man. A new world is about to create, and you are to be with our side to claim this new world, to claim creation!”

Chapter 1: First Encounters

“Master, it's time to wake up. You have school.” a persistent voice said. It threatened to occur for more than 30 more minutes if the person addressed won't wake up soon. “ALRIGHT! I'm up.” Yawning and rubbing his eyes, he looked up to the owner of the call, and glared through his own golden orbs. The owner of the call chuckled slightly, “Don't glare. You're almost late for school, young master.” He then shot up, and headed straight to the bathroom. There, he removed himself down to the last article of clothing, and made his way to the already-filled bath tub.

After a few minutes, he dried himself off, picked out clothes for today, and looked himself up at the mirror. He traced his naked chest – scar less and untouched. His pale complexion is still the same – close to white. He looked at his golden hair, still the same length. He put on his clothes, picked up his bag, and rushed downstairs to the dining room.

“Good morning, father.” He greeted with obvious glee. His father, one who possesses naturally silver hair and golden eyes, smiled at his antics. “Good morning, too. How was your sleep?”

“Not fine, actually.” He answered honestly. “How about you, father? Available this weekend?” He was waiting patiently for his father to be available at least for a day, so that they could spend time together. Since the young master's mother's death, the young master's father became sad. He would dwell himself into work, leaving no room for rest. He assumed responsibilities both as a father and a mother, which he believed is what his son craves. Guess how wrong he is. “If you would, I'll be able to spend time with you this weekend, is that fine?”

“Very. I can't wait for the weekends!” He exclaimed happily, as he finishes his food. “I need to go to school now, dad. Later.” He flashed a smile, before leaving his father.

“Good luck and take care.”

“Young master, is everything fine?” His driver asked as they drove to his school. “Just nervous. I'm going to a new school, which is in a place I've never been before. Plus, it's within an environment I am not accustomed to.” He sighed in frustration. “What shall I do?”

“Stay calm, young master.” The driver assured, “You'll do fine. Actually, I imagine you to do an excellent job at your first day.” He said with a smile, which the golden-haired boy didn't see. “I actually expect dad to say the same thing.” He made a small smile. He then sighed softly and let himself rest for a while, that is, until the driver pulled over and woke him up. “Young master, we are here.” He slowly tried to regain his consciousness.

“Huh?”

Another day in this hellhole.

I never hated school because this is the only place I could go at the moment away from 'home'. I's not exactly a place of all love and family, since I live alone. So how do I live? I always get money from someone I do not know. Really weird, but I do not care. At least I am fortunate enough to be blessed with fundings that I could live off for the rest of my life.

And so I walk to the school. I noticed the white car that parked itself at the school gates.

Suddenly, a pale lad with golden eyes and hair walked out of it. He then waved to whoever it is inside that car, and went through the entrance. I could now hear many girls squeal and scream, some shouting about how downright alluring this golden boy is. I shrugged at the horror that is these boyfriend-desperate, hormone-induced girls. My cure? A simple act of ignorance to these weird species.

I made my way to the classroom, as always. I sighed deeply, unfortunately seeing this very familiar scene every single day of my life. Another sigh. At my left were the boys, who's always talking about stuff that I tend to ignore most of the time. On my right, and probably behind me, are the girls that are dying for my attention. Let them die, because I don't plan on giving them any. I could really hear them giggle and gossip, since it's physically impossible for me (or anyone else who's basic hearing capabilities are human, or at least akin to humans) to not hear them speak. When it comes down to it, this hellhole, is just another way of spending my time.

Troublesome pass time.

The teacher then entered unannounced, so all of those students went rushing to their seats. After the teacher made his way to the center, he motioned for us to shut up, which we, I mean them, not me, did. After a few minutes, he finally broke the silence. “We have a new student today. Please, do not show how evil you kids are, or I'll fail you all.” He then went back to the door, this time stopping in front of it. It seems like he's speaking with someone I do not know (because I can't see) at the door. He then went back to his previous place, with the same golden lad I saw just a while ago. I sighed and blocked my ears as I hear those girls squeal. When will they grow up?

“This is Hikari Sada. I expect you to behave in his presence.”

“Hi, I'm Hikari Sada. You can call me Hikari I'm currently 18 years old.” He said with a smile. “Any questions?” The teacher asked.

One of the girls can't resist, “Are you single?” Shocked by the question, he silently smiled and replied a simple “Yes.” They all squealed. He blushed slightly at the attention.

“Okay, that's enough embarrassment for the new student today.” The teacher pointed at the seat beside mine. “Your seat is there, beside Yuuzuki. Now, be good friends, okay?” He then went and sat beside me. The teacher smiled. “You look great there, you two. So... opposing.”
Sheesh, did he have to comment such?

“Now open your books on page 32, and we shall begin our lesson after you read the text.”

And so, the class began.

†-o0o-†

Lunch time.

I picked up my bag and went out. Blond boy went out earlier than me. I shrugged and went to my favorite place, the rooftops.

When I got there I saw the blond boy, looking at the sky, which is, amazingly, blue and cloudless. “Hey.” I said, trying to get his attention. He turned around, and faced me. “Yes?” He replied. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

“Forgive me if I am invading your territory. I was just fascinated by the sky and this rooftop just happens to be the closest to the sky, as far as this school is concerned. I shall take my leave now.” He bowed in respect, and walked to the door. I called him again, and he turned to face me – again. “I don't mind your presence here. I just asked what you were doing. If you want, you can stay.” He seems hesitant at first, but then took my offer.

We sat in silence. I opened my lunch box and ate. I glanced over him and saw that he was doing the same thing, well, not exactly mimicking me. I could make my eating fast so that I could get the hell out of here, but I decided on taking it slow so that I could spend some time getting to know this blond, seeing that I am drawn to him – like how I long for a light in my dark world.

I never noticed that it was time for class to resume.

†-o0o-†

He seems to be a very kind person, despite his cold and distant look. Instead of dismissing me blatantly, he offered me to stay there.
As I think of it further, he seems to be my opposite, my darkness. Of course, more to the obvious is the physical characteristics, like the hair, skin, eyes, and such. But, our personalities differ from each other by a mere snot. He is... cold and distant, while I am warm and approaching. He seems to be not of the talkative type. I should take that as a hint that he did not experienced the nicest things on earth, while I could say that what I experienced wasn't all that pleasant, but nothing compared to his.

It's a good thing, though, that I am now friends with him.

Any reactions? Anything?

Fu - January 9, 2008 08:29 AM (GMT)
I've rarely read stories with more than one view, so I can't really comment, but nice development anyway.

Rae Hiwatari - January 11, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
This is far from over, dearies. I have made a plot already [not the usual 'let's just pour out my thoughts' thing]. I'm having trouble writing this stuff since I barely have time. I'll do it anyway.

Chapter 2: Omen

School again.

Usually, our class starts around seven in the morning, so we go to school around 6 in the morning. ‘We’ happens to be me and Hikari. Yeah, since start of class, which happens to be a month ago, we have been together.

Think of it as ‘watching each other’s back’.

From what?

From the raging boyfriend-desperate fan girls.

Back to the present predicament. We are now inside the classroom, which is populated by few students – majority of which are girls - fan girls, to be exact. You know, the type that can rip a guy to shreds if he doesn’t seek higher ground or have at least twenty overly brawly bodyguards at his disposal.

The reason Hikari and I go to school so damn early is to avoid those fan girls. But somehow they managed to wake up in this ungodly hour just to glance at us, the enigmas, and claim their love for us (which in turn bugs the hell out of us).

I feel loved. Not.

You see, it was bad enough that these fan girls were swarming over me (and possibly, at every little thing that has to do with me) and then to Hikari. What’s worst is that some of these girls have the fantasy of having us for each other. They say (and probably do things secretly so that it looks like Hikari and I are ‘together’) that Hikari and I belong to each other… which is not right in my opinion because I don’t swing that way, and I know Hikari shares this opinion. Yeah, it’s worst than those boys who are secretly ‘in love’ (I call it lust or some other idiotic attraction) with one (or the two) of us. I’m not a homophobe, but I would prefer if they aren’t really obsessed.

As I was saying, Hikari and I are here, seated on our proper seats, chatting. It’s becoming a morning ritual of some sort. Mostly, it was Hikari who would do the talking while I answer whatever reply he needs. We’re quite content with that.

So, I’ll be ignoring those girls and give my attention to my blond friend, just to remove my mind from idiosyncrasies that is those fan girls.

"Look at them,” He said, looking at the aforementioned girls, “giggling and all at the sight of you entering the school... you must be really popular among the girls." He said, smiling.

“Hn.” I sighed, "Don't mind them." I said with indifference, "Ignore them for the most parts. Plus, I do not share the burden alone." This time, I smirked.

Hikari faced the girls and gave a wink. As they all went wild (while some drop-dead), he gave a sigh as he shifted his attention back to me. "I guess you have a point there." He paused for a bit, thinking about what to say next. "Do you get annoyed by these girls? You know, even for a bit? When you find it hard to ignore them and simply wished they would begone?"

I should laugh, but I stopped myself since it would not only grab attention but also it would be a moment for those girls and it would scare everyone else. "With my most burning passion." Another smirk. "That answer for those three questions." He added.

He turned his gaze to the 'drowned' girls. Seeing them in this kind of shock is entertaining, even to the slightest... which humors him so. 'maybe this isn't so bad...'

"I see..." Hikari made a smile as he folded his arms. He looked at his surroundings, careful not to look at the girls. "Enough about the girls. How about this school? You know, as a whole. Do you like it?"

He made a thinking gesture, "Hmm... A pass time?" He said humorously before showing a slightly saddened face, "It's not a matter of liking... I come here because I don't have anything to do."

"You don't have anything to do?" Hikari asked, slightly surprised. "So you're studying here because of boredom?"

"Out of boredom." He corrected. 'As much as possible, I don't want to stay in that darkness I have been for so long... let me enjoy the light while I still have it.' “It’s better than spending a whole day in some damp house.” Before he could reply, the teacher already came in and immediately started class.

At lunch, we would spend eating at the rooftops. Sometimes Hikari prepares two boxes – one for me and him. Sometimes, we would sit and chat, Hikari for the most parts. Sometimes we just comfort ourselves with each other’s presence.

Later after class, I waited for Hikari at the school’s gate. I kept myself busy by shoving off the girls and blatantly ignoring some boys that dare disturb me of my waiting. It took me almost forty-five minutes before Hikari came running to me, panting. “Sorry,” pant, “The teacher,” another pant, “went overtime and,” another pant, “I couldn’t get out.” While he grasps for air, he looks at me for any reaction. I gave him a raised brow. “That’s fine.” I said with concern. What? You’d think I’ll be evil?

“I feel guilty that I have to let you endure all of those people passing by.” He said, after finally getting enough air. “No big. I’ve endure it for long.” He looked relieved. “Let’s go home.” I said while turning around…

…only to be stopped when he called me.

“Yuu-kun?” I allowed him and only him to call me that, after a lengthy discussion. Well, it’s better than Yuuzuki-kun (too long) or Yuu-chan (too girly). I shudder at the words. “Yes?” I said, returning to face him. “Would you like to come to my house? Let’s have a sleepover!” He said, smiling brightly. I sighed. There’s no talking out of it. Once he thought of something, he would ask me with it. Then, if I decline, he would pout. It’s really cute to see him pout, but when he does that… God forbid, I’d submit whatever idiotic things he plans on doing. Fortunately, it’s not terrible. “Okay.”

Once we reached the Sada Mansion, someone with a silver hair and a familiar gold eyes greeted us. “Why hello there, young men.” I turned to Hikari, motioning him to tell me who the hell is he. He seems to get the message, “My dad.”

“You betcha!” The silver-haired man said. He opened the door. “Now, come in young lads, dinner’s almost ready.”

“It’s only past 6, dad.” Hikari exclaimed. “But you boys must be famished. Would your friend stay for the night?”

“He would be staying here, dad.” Hikari stated, “We’re having a sleepover.”

His dad was ecstatic. “Oh! I remember to do that when we were kids. Oh boy, me and my friend Byakuya were like, doing it for god knows how long. We really enjoy these things. Ahh, the joy of youth.”

“Excuse me, sir,” I interrupted him, “Did you mentioned the name Byakuya?”

“Well, yeah?” He said, not grasping what I meant.

“Byakuya… as in Byakuya Kinamoto?” I say, still hoping I was right.

“Yeah, why?”

“Nothing, sir. Just noting.”I said, smiling. I’ve been correct. We then ate in silence.

After dinner, we went to Hikari’s room. He said his father would be in his own room doing stuff. Well, I suppose it’s business-related.

We decided to take shower first before doing anything else. Hikari went first, then me. He also let me ‘borrowed’ some clothes. Most of his clothes were white, or anything of the lighter color, so he had me ordered a dark robe.

Pretty convenient.

Well, here we are, already dressed, inside his room which contains a 71” flat screen Plasma TV, some dvd player, a PS3, some CDs, a king-sized bed, and some other things not worth mentioning.

“Let’s go watch DVD first.” Hikari said. It’s not like I have any choice, now do I? He picked something over the pile and then flashed it to me. “The Ring?” He smiled. “Isn’t that a little bit scary for you?” He shook his head, but something tells me it’s a lie. I decided to play along.
I had the lights turned off since it would give us some atmosphere. We had some food, but we’re too busy watching the movie to take a bite.
In the latter parts of the movie, I can see Hikari have his knees closed tightly to himself. He’s fidgeting really quietly – somewhat trying to hold his fear since he’s quite aware that I’m currently beside him. Just a reassurance, I grabbed his hand and squeezed it softly. “It’s just a movie.” I said. He looks at me, “But what if it’s real?” I should smack him. “Then I promise I’ll protect you from them.” I saw his eyes gleamed with hope, “Really?”

“Yes, really. Now, let’s watch something else. This is getting too scary for your taste.” I said, ejecting the disk. “I know, let’s watch Garfield!” He went to the pile, looking for the said movie. He then asks me out of the blue, “Who’s Byakuya Kinamoto?” I was startled, but I answered nonetheless. “He’s my father.”

“Seriously?” A nod. “Are you sure?” The vein’s on my head are getting larger and larger, “Do you want me to write it for you?” But before he could reply, the lights went out. He screamed, so I pulled him close. “Hey, it’s only a black out.” I said. But, I know he’s scared not because there’s no electricity but because the scary movie was still fresh in his mind.

Suddenly, a scream was heard from somewhere. It sounded like a woman. Then Hikari looked at me, with big scared eyes, “It’s from father’s room!” Without second thought, we ran to the said room.
On the way, they heard a shrill cry, which from my guess was a man’s. “Oh god.” I said, while I squeezed his hands for comfort. We continued to run to the room and gasped at what we saw.

Hikari’s father lying lifeless on the ground, along with a maid’s body. Both drowning in a pool of blood. Before I knew it, Hikari ran to his father’s side and brooded. I then looked around, being the rational person, and gathered for clues. Then something caught my attention.

“Help…” I walked to the source of the sound and saw another maid bathe in blood. “Master Nagi was killed.” Point to the obvious. “I swear it was not human. Even if it’s dark, I swear no human ever posses such scary blood-lust eyes.” She coughed blood. “Please take care of young master…” And then she lost consciousness. I checked her beat, and found she’s dead.

Electricity resumed, and the grotesque scene was illuminated.
I swear, this is not done by a human. If it was, then I think that human is insane.

I picked up the weird blue-ish hairs on the corpses. I then told Hikari, “Let’s get this analyzed. We may be able to tell what… monster did this and put it to justice.”

“Yeah, let’s do that.” ‘Father, have a safe journey.’

Unbeknownst to them, someone was watching the scene.
“Is the experiment successful?” A cold female voice asked. “Yes, mistress. We are able to bring forth the demon. But, the environment had hindered it to strive.” A man’s voice replied. “Good enough. Let’s begin the preparations. Creation will soon be mine!”
