Title: Brawl Control Schemes
Description: Which one do you use?
Zero - March 10, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
Just curious to see who likes what control scheme. Personally, I like the Classic Controller the best. Gamecube's okay, but I just like Classic's button layout better. I'm...not a big fan of either of the Wii Remote controllers, but it's somewhat better with the Nunchuck.
Zerorush - March 10, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Gamecube for me. Like I said in the other thread I'd use the classic controller, but I hate having the left thumbstick so close to the center of the controller.
Mokujin - March 10, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
Gamecube's worked best for me, thus far. I've adapted to the Nunchuck+Wiimote combo pretty quickly as a substitute, though.
Junpei Iori - March 10, 2008 08:52 PM (GMT)
I don't have the classic, and I want to but haven't tried Nunchuck yet. At the moment, I use Gamecube.
Rayo Mizukashi - March 13, 2008 10:45 AM (GMT)
I've pretty much adapted to all styles, so I'm good. But personally, I use either of the Wii Remote schemes.
Unit B - March 14, 2008 07:00 AM (GMT)
I've tried every control scheme, but the only one I'm good with is the GC controller. Classic controller is fine, but the button layout is just to odd for me, and the Z button is to far away from my fingers (I grab a lot).
Zero - March 14, 2008 02:41 PM (GMT)
Shield grabbing works too.
Koopa - March 14, 2008 05:28 PM (GMT)
Gamecube Controller. Melee control scheme, but I edited pressing the up button so my character doesn't jump when I use an up attack.

if you have to do that then you fail.
Rayo Mizukashi - March 15, 2008 12:44 AM (GMT)
*nods* ^QFT.
Suggestion: We should put up a sub-board exclusively for Brawl topics.
Koopa - March 16, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
^QTF
Mind you, the above quoter fails.
Oh, and the quoter above that quoter fails.
Tennet, if I can jump with another button, and i do jump with another button, and sometimes I accidentally press it and jump, wouldn't I turn it off?
If you think no, you fail.
Nick, well, sparlfalzar, he uses the wii-mote/nunchuck combo. I don't know why, but thats up to him.
Taiki Kebin - March 16, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
you need the joy stick to quick fall and jump in a diag with less motion and fingers need to do less...
Rayo Mizukashi - March 17, 2008 12:43 PM (GMT)
Now, now, let's not fight about a simple control scheme... But we DO have names, Koopa.

lol wut?
You can still fast fall with the up for jump option turned off and the joystick still provides aerial control. All that option does is make it so you don't jump when you press up. Makes it a lot easier to do up tilts. The only real advantage to having it on is that you can do stuff out of shield.
Koopa - March 17, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
Thank you, Zero.
But what do you mean out of shield? When the shield is not on?

i know its just fun confusing people :P now leave me alone as i go play Melee...
Koopa - March 17, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
And that's just an excuse because he suddenly realizes he's wrong.
And I'm actually glad they got rid of wavedashing, tourneyfags. All their stupid exploits making the game no longer fun.
No-one uses the Wii remote alone then?
Taiki Kebin - March 17, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
wavedashing FTW and no i do confuse people a lot...
Rayo Mizukashi - March 17, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
First of all, the hell is wavedashing? Second of all, I use both wiimote schemes.
Koopa - March 18, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
Wavedashing is... Play Melee, and jump. A really shallow jump, then use air dodge down and to the right. Now do it in quick succession. It's like an invincible shield dash.
Unit B - March 18, 2008 02:37 AM (GMT)
Not invincible, not even close. Just cause you can wave dash doesn't mean you can use it effectively in a match. And not every character even benefited from wave dashing anyway.
Zero - March 18, 2008 12:20 PM (GMT)
The point of wavedashing isn't to be invincible. It's to get around more quickly and catch your opponent off guard. And, jumping out of shield means pressing jump/up when you have your shield up. It makes you jump without having to drop your shield, so you can do things like Up B or Up Smash out of shield. It can be a useful option and an alternative to rolling if someone's just beating on your shield.
Koopa - March 18, 2008 10:28 PM (GMT)
No need to nitpick.
I was giving a general statement.
And no, some characters cannot, like Bowser.
But does it matter anymore? They took it out.
And yeah, invincible, or somewhat. You're dodging and shielding most of the time.
Taiki Kebin - March 18, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
Ross everyone can WD its just harder with other characters. they took it out to make brawl less skillful there are rumors that it is possible in brawl doing a different method
Koopa - March 19, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
Kevin, if you look at it, yeah, every character can do SOME form of wavedashing, but for most people it sucks. Like Bowser. I tried it. It's bad.
Taiki Kebin - March 19, 2008 12:57 AM (GMT)
Koopa - March 19, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
I don't consider it a wavedash. It doens't do what a wavedash is supposed to.
Chibi Goku - March 19, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Boo. For me it's the Wii Remote + Nunchuck. It takes some getting used too, but I honestly prefer to my gamecube controller now.
Tanis Saidur - March 19, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
I still prefer my GC controller. I don't play many Wii games, so the Wiimote is still foreign to me. Plus, I play many fighting games, so it's easier for me to execute when I have my hands on something solid.

Not really. If you're wavedashing, you're not even supposed to be shielding (unless you're waveshielding, I guess? But if you're doing that, then you're probably not attacking...), so the only invincibility you have is the split second where you do the airdodge, which isn't nearly enough time to be considered invincibility. Anyways, this is a Brawl thread, so let's stop talking about Melee.
