Title: >< Flash Problem
Death the Kid - June 17, 2008 02:51 AM (GMT)
I know it's not about the forum but I NEED HELP. My Macromedia Flash MX '04 can't open files any bigger than 6.0 MB that I've worked on and I have 2 that are past that I want to work on more>> I lost track of time and stuff on them.
Anyone know why? It says it doesn't have enough memory to load the pics. It says I should close open documents or quit and use the Get Info command in the Finder to allocate memory to support it. Tried the first, have no idea what the second is.

Do you get a message in the bottom righthand corner stating that your computer doesn't have enough Virtual Memory to run certain applications?
Anyhow: the first step I'd take immediately is to defragment your computer.

No, not that.
Defrag?! NO. It cost me a thousand bucks D=<!

Defraging costs you money?
Do you have anything running while trying to use Macromedia Flash?

If you're running the XP Version of Control Panel:
Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Rearrange Items on your Hard Disk to make Programs Run Faster
either scan and then defragment, or just defragment right off the bat.
If you're running the Classic Version of Control Panel:
Switch to Category View in the lefthand side tab labeled "Control Panel"
It's gonna take some time. I suggest doing this before you go to sleep and leaving your computer on overnight. Also, disk defragmentation costs no money whatsoever. This might be the source of your problem as it sounds like you obviously haven't defragmented your disk drives. Ever. :slowpoke:

defrag in safe mode... but you ahve to go through start menu...
Start > programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Defragment
also do it multiple times, the more you do it the faster it goes, also you want the bar to be as blue as possible, you'll know what i'm talking about...

There's honestly no point in Defragging in safe mode. It doesn't protect you from anything at all whether you defrag in standard or safe.
Disk Defragmenter's not going to move a file neccessary to you computer's operational system. Even if it does, that's what System Restore is for, to reset your computer back to a previous date. >_>
But it won't. And you don't need to defragment multiple times. Just do it once a month and your computer should be running as smoothly as possible. If you want to be safe, or if this happens again, do it once at the beginning of the month and once midway in.
If this doesn’t fix your problem; post or PM me. I’ll tell you some other methods.

No doing it multiple times works it condenses more and more making there more room and runs faster and it better to do a lot of things in safe mode.

PR, I did the second thing you said. It's much more blue now. But I still can't open the Flash doc.'s bigger than 6. Even if it's just 6.5 MB.

Is Flash the only application running when you try to open the document?
Death the Kid - June 17, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
Yes. I've tried Flash only and Flash with several other things open. It doesn't seem to affect it.

Which version of flash were the documents originally made on?

Eh, you could try
this then try it again.
Personally, I think it's a problem with the files themselves. Try making a new flash file that's over 6 MB and see what happens.
