Staves should count as being in the magic triangle. If you want to make a healer, he has to have something besides staves, but since staves aren't in a triangle, you are forced to take a whopping 8 points off, instead of 5.

they are...plus you can have only bows, therefore they aren't as bad as staves

We don't support healer-only type custom classes, mainly because they would have no real way to level up. However, there are some really useful staves so 8 points to get staves is very worth it if you want to use it.
