Title: Just an idea (minor suggestion for RP reset)
Severian - December 25, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Just to keep things from getting to hectic all at once, why don't we think about instating a character level rule so that people can only make second and third characters after their first has reached a certain level?
For instance, we could make it so that a second character is only allowed once the third is level 5, and a third can only be made once the first and second sum to 9.
This would just keep everyone from making 3 characters at the start and making the work the judges have to do hectic...but I suppose that if the judges are willing to judge, there's no harm in keeping things as they are. I don't really have a solid position on this, but I had the idea and decided to throw it out here.

To add on to that, I think characters should only be remade after reaching a certain level as well. The amount of topics I see in FEW Chat about deleting and remaking characters is astounding. People shouldn't be such malcontents about what they themselves created.

Completely agree. This would also keep from having to reset again so soon...because if they play their cards right, without the level ban thingy, a person could have three promoted characters and before you know it, we have too many.....if we include the level ban thingy, then it would give people who come in more options than NPCs...

i think we should do the "you cant have your second/third chars until XX levels"
its a good idea

Also, just tacking a new idea on.
Would you admins consider changing the new country system from passwords to masks, and giving leaders limited masking access (since Pondy, for instance, had had a "dedicated members" forum of sorts) to various subsections if they want it? It means less passwords being remembered and less chance of spying, so why not?

i'd imagine because, as I was told, spying is part of the game,
Severian - December 27, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
It's lame, because spying in FEW is a matter of "ooh, I'll just tell X leader I'm joining them, read all their topics, and then leave and go back to Y leader" with a few complications in terms of whether you can get out of the country or not.
Or I suppose using a proxy or some crazy shit like that, and creating a new account would also work.
Real spying would be far more involved and actually involve some idea of what you're doing. You'd have to come up with some good explanations for why you were changing sides, and even if you weren't on a country's side beforehand there'd likely be at least a minimal screening process before being let in. In FEW, it's far too easy to spy, shouldn't be allowed.
Just my opinion.

Indeed... spying on this site just seems immature, and far too easy. It would simply be a matter of knowing the right people... and that's just wrong. I don't see the point in something like that, you know? It takes out most of the fun... seeing how the opponent or ally will react.
Think about it; what would Fire Emblem be without AI? A worthless piece of story-driven hardware, that's what. It would be boring, without meaning, and would take the pride out of events that should have been hard-pressed to achieve. Without such a thing... there's no point.
I don't quite understand what you mean by 'masking', however. Care to explain?

Oh, and on another note... why not have it so that you can only have a second character once your first promotes? That way, the player is forced to choose; either create a new character and focus on raising him/her, or continue training the previous character to 20/20 before starting anew. That way, it's just so much easier on judges. ^_^

(moved to FEW chat)
By masking (I don't fully understand it myself) I mean allowing certain usernames access to forums others don't. For instance, there are a set of mod only forums that you guys can't see.
I believe masking is actually using a person's IP address and subnet mask (the latter is just a portion of the subnet mask differentiating between host and network segments of the IP address, anotherwards: minor jargon) to decide whether that compy should be blocked, accessed, or whatever. I'm not sure exactly how proxies work into this or how they're discovered, but I'm sure if I did, I could bore you all to tears talking about them.
In terms of promotion...do you mean you can make a second/third once the first is promoted, or you can delete and remake once the first is promoted? While I'd like to put minor restrictions on deletion, if someone really wants to delete their character it'd probably be better to not make it to hard to - the restriction would be more helpful in keeping people from constantly making new characters to be approved. However, it might be a good idea to make a long-term limit on simply making a second or third characters. It's just I'm not sure what you mean by "either create a new character and focus on raising him/her, or continue training the previous character to 20/20 before starting anew" (or that is, I can see a few different explanations for what you mean). Could you clarify?

Also, even if we do restrict character deletion, it might be reasonable to only impose the deletion rule after the first week or two, so anyone who figures out a new character during the first week or two can switch without suffering penalties for not figuring out any new stat systems right away.
