Title: New Rule

Hiei - January 4, 2006 03:40 AM (GMT)
No back-seat modding. Check the board guidelines for more details.

Kipdog - January 4, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
Yes, please, I'm getting really frustrated seeing posts by members that say "Please dont say that, that is off topic", or "someone better close this soon, if I had powers I would", etc.

The Entertainer - January 4, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
That's a stupid rule, if I had powers I would change it...

Seriously though, half the staff "back-seat modded" before the actually became part of the staff. It helped to see if they were "fit" to become staff in the first place. Maybe only "bad back seat modding" should be given a penalty.

I'm talking about the ones who constantly do it, to show that they want powers.

Silenthunder - January 4, 2006 04:07 AM (GMT)
So we're not even allowed to tell someone to stop spamming? That's a stupid rule. I agree with mego_d()()d on the "bad backseat modding".

Hiei - January 4, 2006 04:10 AM (GMT)
We can do our jobs, thank you. If someone keeps double posting you could tell them "Try not to double post." But don't make that all you say, post on topic. And don't tell us to close topics, unless you made them.

No, it could just be considered a post to get another post, we know how to do our jobs. Only do it if it is absolutely required, and there are no moderators on. If someone is breaking any rules Private message a Global Moderator or administrator, we will handle them.

Silenthunder - January 4, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
I doubt anyone would waste their time seaching out someone who is spamming just to get another post, but I understand your point. Wouldn't PM'ing mods about spam still be in a way backseat modding.

Anyways I'll still PM you guys if I see any spammers from now on, or I'll keep the post on topic.

Private messaging us about a problem is not backseat modding.

A pointless rule, and i agree with Mega.

If they dont follow it, they get a warning. Simple enough.

PlatinumPimp - January 4, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
Stupid though, this is the only forum i know of with this rule. So what if there isnt a mod on when some random user is spamming up the place?

Read my other post, if there is no one on, and it is absolutely required, you may do something about it.

PlatinumPimp - January 4, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
Ok so there are some condition when you can?

Yes, there are still some conditions where you can. Just try not to do it if an admin/moderator is on, or you are liable to get a warning point, unless it was necessary.

Dragon_Tam3r - January 4, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
This is just sad man, i'm sure some mods is gonna use this as a way to unfairly warn, all they have to do is say they're there when they really weren't and bam ya get a warning, and don't say a Mod/G-mod/Forum Teamer wouldn't do that 'cause i can name five that would, but i won't cause it would be back-seat modding :P

And what if theres only an anyamous(sp?) so we won't know..

'Ivan - January 4, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
I don't quite see the point of this.

I dont see anyone on the staff that would warn you for it if they werent on, and I highly doubt they will say that they we're on.

Richie - January 4, 2006 09:08 PM (GMT)
That is a little extreme. Surely backseat moderation is annoying, but sometimes it helps the staff see who might be a possible candidate for +moderation if they can calmly and pleasantly tell members what they do wrong... a warnable offense? It seems... extreme...

Like I said, I'm sick of the people who do it in every topic possible. I'll be more lenient on it than Hiei, but I'm not to sure what Hiei thinks on this.

Severian - January 4, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
You know, there's this "report" button on the top of everyone's posts. Unfortunately, I just tried it in RI on my own post, and as far as I can tell there aren't any alerts that appear on-screen for mods, in or out of mod-CP. I'm in the default skin, so it's possible I missed something.

But, if anyone knows where the little "X message got reported" pops up, that'd be a good way to allow people to alert mods without having backseat modding and posting on the actual forum.

It sends a e-mail to staff... I know this extremely well..... -_-

You know it would help if I received these emails too. It would help quite alot.

Heh, funny you say that, because they're more likely to warn you for that. :P

Anyway, a rule's a rule. Deal with it people. <_<

Sorry. Didn't realize, because I changed emails shortly after joining this place, so all FEW mails go to an account I never check. Along with NYtimes stuff. I clear it out once every few months for no reason.

I guess it's only useful for more serious/obscure stuff. Like, there was this wierdo r-rated porn story that Roar (one of the people mixtil brought to spam) posted here, and it had been on for weeks without being touched, probably because no one ever read it. Backseat modding didn't help then (lego posted up some "WTF" response) because no one ever looked at the topic -_-

It's gone now though.

The Entertainer - January 5, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Oh, I saw that. I figured it was aloud, since it was in the "R rated" section :\

SpiralStatic - January 5, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
D00d, Porn isn't R-Rated. You won't find porn at regular movie theaters. FEW doesn't have a XXX-Rated section you know...

No, they are usually just trying to get promoted if they are doing it that much.

Trying to get promoted? Maybe pretending they're promoted... but still, I don't understand how trying to help other members is a warnable offense...

Kipdog - January 5, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
This rule is still being deliberated now, some of the staff disagrees with it.

Richie - January 5, 2006 01:48 AM (GMT)
I'm just thinking that maybe the whole staff should've agreed on it before you added it to the rules...? =/

I wasnt the one who added it, Hiei was. Although I agree on it to a level, I can't say I disagree with it too much though.

Richie - January 5, 2006 02:19 AM (GMT)
That was aimed at the whole staff, not just you, Kippy. :P

Kipdog - January 5, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
Well, if there is one thing I remember Hiei for, its that he takes action before consulting the staff sometimes. ^_^
