Title: Stat Caps?

I understand that the stat caps for Strength/Magic, Defense, Skill, Speed, Luck, and Resistance are all 20, but there's a question I can't quite shake from my mind.
If you've already hit the cap of, say, Defense by level 15, and it grows yet again, the point is unspent. Would one be able to divert the extra point into another stat, or would it remain stagnant and unused?

You get to use it on another stat of your choice :)

I was told by Karn that rule was taken away
so no you dont get to add it to another stat
