Title: Welcome to Eberron.
grondring - April 2, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
Raise your hand if you knew the name of this new RP setting was Eberron. ^_^
I'll bet a hell of a lot of you didn't raise your hands. That's bad. Very bad. However, it's understandable, given that we're working with a world that has nothing to do with any Fire Emblem games.
In order to increase the population's general literacy rate of this fascinating new world of Eberron, the administration is sponsoring a one-shot fanfic contest. For those of you who don't speak author-lingo, what that basically means is that FEW is running a contest for self-contained short stories, meaning they start and end within the space of that story, not going on for dozens of chapters, based in the world of Eberron. The winners will have their material posted on the website, but aside from all that wonderful fame and glory, they'll also receive lots of other good stuff. For instance:
Five Runner-Ups will receive 500 G and 100 EXP each!
Four Honorable Mentions will receive 1000 G and 200 EXP each!
And the Grand Prize winner will receive a whopping 2000 G and 300 EXP!
So come on out, folks, and access that inner writer inside just brimming with imagination. All submissions should be in by 4/16/06, exactly two weeks from now. Good luck, and have fun!

Damn, i thought it'd be Ebberron :(
This seems pretty unfair to me, I work my ass of judging all this stuff, and all that time spent to get some money, and just because some person can write an awesome story, they can by-pass all of that, no offense, but that's just fucked up
EDIT:And another screwed up thing, why would the honorable mentions get more then the runner-ups?
strikeraider827 - April 2, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
I hate you. Why couldn't you have done it when I had time!? Now my Spring Break is over...
grondring - April 2, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
Hmm, actually, Unreal, you have a good point. I think I'll tone down the rewards a little. As for the Honorable Mention/Runner-Up thing, that's just naming, I personally am accustomed to Honorable Mention being higher than Runner Up. It doesn't really matter.
And Strike? Sorry. :P

So, for those of us whom haven't read books in the Eberron series, do we have to go out and learn about it?
grondring - April 3, 2006 01:07 AM (GMT)
No, because it has nothing to do with Eberron the D&D series. FEW is only using the name Eberron; we're making an entirely new world based on it, and this contest is just to see if we can fill in some of that world.

Awsome! I was going to continue were I left off on Cascade of Red(was doing the rough draft for the past two days) but I can do this as well!^^
Is there a word limit or soemthing we can set, like, it has to be over a certain number of words to count as a short story.
grondring - April 3, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
Well, I don't like to impose too much structure, but let's say... over 700 words? That's kinda short, but most good stories will be longer anyway.
Kyrillos - April 3, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
I think that the administration would be looking for a stroy in the range of 700 or 3000 words. Nothing too long. >_>

Say, I've got a question. ^_^ I'm generally not allowed to hang out here too much, so I'll make it quick; would I be able to donate any prizes won to someone from my own country? I'd love to write a fanfic (though I'd have liked the word limit to be larger, admittedly... what can one do with only 3000 words? o.o), but I'm concerned about a theoretical situation where someone may be unable to utilize what they've won.
Since everyone here knows about my lack of activity, would it be possible for me to pass on anything to a friend?

What about the word restriction, though? o.o Generally speaking, a one-shot means different things to different people. Some consider them drabbles (100 words), while others (like me) consider them 1,000-20,000 words, provided they begin and end. o.o
Edit: Generally speaking, I'm sure you've noticed how wordy I am in fanfics. x.x
grondring - April 4, 2006 09:58 AM (GMT)
1. You can donate your rewards to whoever you like.
2. So far the only word restriction is mine - namely, more than 700 words. Think of Aien's comments as more of a recommendation. ^_^

I have another question, more for clarification than anything ...
Do we have to use our RP characters in the RP or can we use completely different people?
And the battle system, etc has to be FE based?

You have to use your RP characters in all official RPs. Most other RPs will also consist of these characters. However, feel free to start whatever kind of non official RPG you want just keep it out of the official section.
Yes, the system has to be FE based for all RPs with FEW characters.
NinOdaSagE - April 5, 2006 12:08 PM (GMT)
Oops. I made a typo..
I meant the short story, not the RP, hence me posting it here. -_-;;
Trace Stratus - April 5, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
I was wondering that too. I plan to go done the clerical/witch hunter path witht his story and I want to introduce new forms of magic as well. I also don't like the limitations of the spells so in my story I want to add some flare. Is this okay?
grondring - April 5, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
Go ahead. That's the beautiful thing about our new world; right now it's completely empty, so you can have as much fun as you want filling up it with whatever you like. :P
Trace Stratus - April 5, 2006 10:07 PM (GMT)
Yeaaaa! Sanctified slaughter of the innocent for everyone! XD (Starring a character I haven't mentioned before. :o)
KuraiKitsune - April 6, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
Ah, that just about clears everything up. ^_^ Thank you very much.
I am expressing my interest in this post concerning the submission of a one-shot fanfiction. I know I'll have it done by then, it's just the internet access I'm having problems with. :( If I'm late by one or two days, how much will I be penalized?
grondring - April 6, 2006 10:01 AM (GMT)
If it's late, but you know it's going to be late, you tell me in advance, and you have a legitimate reason, I'll be willing to cut you some slack. (So basically don't worry about it, Kurai.)
grondring - April 14, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
(Note: when it comes to actually turning in your submissions, the preferred method is to email it to me as an attachment at grondring@gmail.com.)
Kyrillos - April 17, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
[[That's TO grondring@gmail.com
PSST: Never miss an opportunity to correct Grondy.. >_>]]
The Entertainer - April 17, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
...Very interesting idea :o
PS: I'm pretty sure saying "Best bet is to email it to me at ____" is grammatically correct =D
