Title: MMORPGs and Skill
Description: Split Topic

Alex - April 12, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
I've only seen four... and then they stopped working. X_X.

Anyways, MMOs in general do not take skill; time put into the game is all that really matters in those. =/.

Games that require skill... require skill. A n00b that spends a lot of time training in a game that requires skills could never beat a pro.

For example, theoretically, in WoW, a n00b that spends a lot of time on it could get to level 60 just by spending limitless time on the game and could easily match a pro. WoW=n00b.

True, many MMOs in fact do not require skill, I've found WoW to be an exception. A lv.60 may in fact, be able to take a lv.1. But, if your going lv.60 vs lv.60, it requires a great ordeal of skill. I mean, hell, I'm taking out lv.50s at lv.47, thats why I like WoW more than other ordinary MMOs, it requires skill. I mean, really, WoW isnt one of those watch your guy attack another guy games. You have to push as much or even more buttons than you do on an FPS, that is...if you got the skills. B)

You obviously havent played many games then. Or else you'd know what games require skill. Your just jealous that I've owned countless n00bs, to where you havent of course, perfectly understandable. Thats why you feel the need to insult games that do require skill. Your trying to be more like me than an asian. I mean, if I didnt show you those pure pwnage episodes...

In my opinion Kipdog is the most asian (male) on FEW.

Luis is emo and that seems to be a popular trend in Japan right now so he earns points for that. The fact that he owns manga is actually born in Asia helps too. Plus, he has one of (or the) the strongest character on FEW which is even more points for him. Lastly, he has played Dynasty Warriors which is a sign of at least being a fan of Oriental culture.

Alex...well...I imagine as more of a crazy white guy then an asain. I can see Luis as one. (literally from all the times I've seen his picture) Alex spams way to much, takes his responsibilities lightly, and makes envious comments way to much.

Overall it's no contest, Luis is more asain.

The point is that you need to spend a GREAT amount of time to have a really high leveled character. To level up you need time. Most n00bs have a lot of time. That's why there are so many n00bs on WoW; you can be a n00b and have a strong character. On a FPS or fighter or whatever, it is skill.

All of the white kids are emo. o_o. Own manga? I own more than he does. o_o. Luis has no competition. This generation in the RPG seems a bit less... competitive than before. Dynasty Warriors. Meh. That's one game.

And it's about 6 games, if I remember correctly .. Dynasty Warriors Advanced, one, two, three, four, and five... but that's impertinent.

I think I know who to vote now~

Have you ever played WoW? Nope. You dont understand the mechanics of it, its different from other MMOs. I'll point this out; all gamers have alot of time on their hands. If your such a pro, even you'd understand that. Sure, you can have a strong character, but can you use him correctly? Depends, you gotta have the skills. If you want to be pro, you gotta be willing to spend alot of time on any game. Period. You have much to learn young one.

That's why GuildWars is different. Level Cap is 20, and it's been proven that a lvl. 15 can beat a lvl 20.

You're generalizing MMO's too much, I play a lot of them. True that most of them are time>skill challenged, but in GuildWars, it doesn't matter if you've spent 300 hours on the game; a newly capped 50 hour level 20 would easily own you if you didnt have any skills at all.

Not all gamers have a lot of time on their hands. If you have skills, you can be a pro. If you do not have skills, you can't be a pro It's quite simple. Sure, a pro needs to train, but nowhere near as much as a n00b needs to train to be decent.

Generally though. FPSs and stuff do not have levels; just skills. A level 1 pro can't beat a level 20 n00b. In any FPS, a skilled pro can always beat a n00b.

Kipdog - April 13, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)
All gamers have alot of time on their hands. Or they are not gamers. Whats hard to understand about that? All pros need to train to be pro, they start out better than the people who normally start out though. But they cant beat the pros that have practiced and such. Sure, you maybe able to beat other n00bs, but can you beat a pro? If your a true to the word gamer, you can own in all games. Not just one genre. People who say a certain genre is gay just arent pro, they usually just arent good in that genre then and try to avoid it cause they dont want to get owned.

Now really, this really needs to switch back to the topic. I love the debate and all, but this is RI, not something to be serious in that is a topic about who is more asian.

Alex - April 13, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
We can stop, but a pro that can own in a genre, that takes skills to own in, can own in a game that does not take skills. Skills are skills. You either have them or you don't. You can't just own in one genre; you own in all games or none. Maybe somebody can beat n00bs in one genre, but that does not mean they have skills.

Arcan - April 14, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
Hate to tell you-but Silver's right. And yes, a level one could easily pwn a noob level 20. If they are at least to Ascalon (the place you go after the prologue type thing), and have a few decent skills, they could crush a level 20 with the wrong skill/stat placements. That's why Guild Wars still requires skill; although that is an extreme difference in it.

Also, the fact that it does not requie an extreme amount of time to level up adds to that factor. If the level one cannot beat the level twenty, he mihgt become leel twenty himself in under a week.

You can be good in some genres and not good in others. Plus you can still have skills, just not the same skills that we are talking about. The skills your talking about, your kinda born with it. Other than that...I really dont get what that statement debates against...its just more so a flat out statement.

If you want to be good you need to practise. Being "born with it" is bullshit. Sure there are those prodigy kids who could dance circles around other kids the first time they touched a controller. But guys that have been playing the game for 3 years, and know the ropes and tricks, and have the feel for the game, will be able to destroy that kid blind-folded, if the kid hasn't had an adequate time practising with the game.

SpiralStatic - April 15, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
Mega's right. I used to suck horribly at Soul Calibur 2. After 2 years of playing it, I can mash people into the ground with Nightmare without even breaking a sweat. Nightmare isn't slow... He's just got big recovery time, which CAN be canceled into.

No, you can be born with skills, its just you can become better by training. An unskilled person training can surpass someone with natural skills, yet the person with natural skills who has trained just as hard will usually be better. Depends on the game though.

The Entertainer - April 16, 2006 05:08 AM (GMT)
Haha, sure sure, like Gretsky in hockey, tons of players trained just as hard, none surpassed him...

But the point remains, you need the practise.

Trust me, FFXI so far has been the most difficult game i've played in my life, period. It's length is beyond extreme, and even if you had a full alliance of level 75's, there is still a single enemy in the game that can kick your ass before you can even blink. Plus before even getting to 75 you have to deal with noobs and elitists who constantly ***** and whine about everything, how you're missing that one piece of gear, how you should've done this when, and they often display the worst use of the english language i've ever seen, making me want to send a letter to them.

"Dear noob/elitist, Please stop butchering me. Signed, the English language"

It often takes a lot of time and questing to get some of the important and required (i'll say) items that you need before you even get looked at to get into the party.

You may not undertsant any of this, but here are some examples:

White mage without Erase: Won't get any party invites past level 40

Red Mage without Refresh: Won't get a party invite since the level it should have gotten it

Black Mage without Stun: Won't even get a look at >.>

These spells are downright necessary for you in order to get parties, and sadly, being a White mage myself, Erase is the most expensive and difficult spell to get, but I got it eventually. ^^b

I hope someday I can show you guys a video of a level 75 alliance in Dynamis, or fighting Absolute Virtue. -.-
