Yeahh.. my mom wants me to learn it. It just came out of no where last night, so I was thinking it over. It doesn't seem too bad an idea, but is there anyone here who learns any one of the above? If so, what's it like?

Are the above three fighting .. er.. skills the same?

Kojiro - May 4, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
Learn Ninjutsu.

NinOdaSagE - May 4, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)
I don't think you can do that here. -_-

Lionheart - May 4, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
I do Tae Kwon Do. I enjoy it alot. It also seems to be a very effective style.

aiscool - May 4, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
I've been in Hap Ki Do(kindof like tea kwon do, but focusses more on throws and takedowns) for a year and have my green belt(soon to be blue). I've also been in tea kwon do for over 5 years and I've had my black belt for over a year.

I say go for it. its a wonderfull experience. i know this might sound like one of those canned advertising campains, but its not.

tea kwon do, has helped me become more disciplined. I have more self control. it has taught me how to respect, how to teach, how to take corrections. not to mention the physical aspects, you will become more agile, strong, and flexable. I have also gained a number of friends. oh, I almost forgot! you will learn how to protect yourself and others.

the only down side to it that i can see is the money issue, but if your parents are covering it for you then you've got no worries!

NinOdaSagE - May 5, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
Wow, okay. Thanks a lot for that explanation/opinion/whatever it was! xD

aiscool - May 9, 2006 02:57 PM (GMT)
your very welcome

Hiei - May 10, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
It's a waste of time. :(

??????? Do you even take any of them?

Im going with Aiscool, he about sumed it up real well. Ive taken Tae Kwon Do, some kung-fu and a few bits of other things, very good things, both for mental and physical health.

Hiei - May 11, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
I took Tae Kwon Doe for like, 3 weeks, and realized it was the stupidest thing I've ever done.

grondring - May 11, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
I personally think any sport is good for you, so if you're not doing anything now, I don't see why some sort of martial art wouldn't be suitable.

Kojiro - May 11, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
She runs.

grondring - May 11, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
Really? Excellent choice. Well, if you're running already, I don't see why you really need another sport. As for "self-defense," well, you can just run away, can't you? :P

NinOdaSagE - May 11, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
Uh... I'd rather not run away... Isn't it better to confront than to run, except when you know you're going to lose..?

Blademastersupreme - May 11, 2006 07:18 PM (GMT)
No. Always better to run. And run fast might I add. Oh and serpentine. You musn't forget to serpintine.

I used to take Aikido when I was younger, but gave it up due to schedule difficulties. ^^'' Needless to say, getting rusty doesn't help much. When I got jumped the last few times, I relied on a taser, an art pencil (jabbed it in a guy's knee... amazing what adrenaline does to you!), and my own legs to run like hell. x.x It's not fun, either. It's scary.

If you want to take martial arts, don't be overconfident. Know your abilities, and don't go beyond them while in a fight that you can't run from. You'll regret it, otherwise.

Trace Stratus - May 13, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
I did Tae kwon do but my teacher focused more on combinations for getting to the next belt more then actually how to protect myself.

That taser must reall really own.

What happened to the pencil?

KuraiKitsune - May 13, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
Aikido is one person's way of 'helping people achieve their goals'. According to my sensei, attackers' main goal usually surmises 'falling down'. Therefore, we help them achieve their goal of falling down. ^_^

We learned how to get to the next belt (though I never got past blue... didn't have enough time, I suppose), but he focused on making sure we were prepared for anything. For example, he held a wooden bo out, roughly a foot off the ground. Every time we messed up in our attempts to jump and roll over it, or whenever he felt like lifting it just a bit higher, he would say, "Oh, you're dead!" and continue on. ^_^

Edit: My art teacher gave me a new one. XD Oh, and technically, I broke the law... it's illegal to tase someone in the skull. x.x

Kojiro - May 13, 2006 12:48 AM (GMT)
As long as you're not caught, you're fine :P

Death Love - May 13, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
I would go for Tae Kwon Doe, the Kendo, then Judo.

Killer C15 - May 21, 2006 07:20 PM (GMT)
learn martial arts it's better. B)

Nate - May 21, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
I've never taken the top 3 but!

I know Ninjitsu, Tae jit su, and a little bit of kung fu (taught myself kung fu) so I'm semi balanced in all aspects...

Ninjitsu is agile speed and discipline

Tae jit su is like taekwondo besides it's more physical... I think you would really benefit the most from martial arts because there more effective for self defense... Taekwondo is a very good and fundamental skill to learn but is also one of the hardest well... that you would learn.

Non of them are hard and not to much differant than each other... but the difficulty level is depending on your body build. So I say try them all and go with what you enjoy most. (saying you can)

When I was 10 I took Karate lessons. I hit my hand on a brick, cried, and never went again.

AnimeGoddess2006 - May 21, 2006 10:58 PM (GMT)
I took Karate lessons when I was younger.

I didn't enjoy them, but I'm sure they'll come in handy during the long run, though I'm a bit rusty. >__>
