My only other forum choices (gamefaqs jazz/classical forum, HBO) might not avail me, and I need personal opinions on this guy. Googling will probably just turn up some other CDs, but I'd like to know if there are any other things by Ahmad Jamal similar to what I have (on "The Essence").

If no one knows who he is, that's the breaks. It's not like I know Ahmad Jamal either. But if you do, it'd be great if anyone else has suggestions on what else by Jamal to listen to.

At worst, no one in the world knows who he is, and I'll just buy everything he recorded one by one. It will probably all be good. But I'm at the very top of a large collection, and some ability for selection might help.

QUOTE
I was recently listening to some stuff on my dad's iTunes collection, just to listen for good stuff...and, top of the list I hit Ahmad Jamal; my dad has some things from some CD/record called "The Essence".

I don't know if this guy is obscure, or incredibly famous, but I'm interested in listening to some more...so does anyone know of any other collections of this guy's stuff? Hopefully music only, no words, like what's on "The Essence".

The tracks that were on iTunes, all from The Essence, were:
The Flight
Toulouse
The Essence (prolly my favorite of them, but Toul and Bahia were really good, and it was a tough choice)
Lover Man
Catalina
Autumn Leaves
Street of Dreams
Bahia

BTW, I'm assuming he's the pianist, since the piano is the most prominent, stand-out instrument in the pieces I've listened to. A confirmation on this would be good.

I might be able to talk to my pops later, but any info now'd be good.

Sorry, but this is really all I'm back to ask about. I hope everything's going well, no one got banned, etc.

My brother and I go to jazz clubs downtown quite a bit, and have at least 5 gigs each of Jazz on our MP3 players. I know of a few famouse pianists, so I'll download some of this stuff and see if any of it sounds familier.

Edit: I can't even find any of those or an album/artist named The Essence. Sorry. X_X
