Title: Pokémon Question! (RSE, FR, and LG)
KuraiKitsune - July 11, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
I'll admit it. I'm a Pokémon nut; ask Taoma or Ryouhei. I used to have an extensive breeding program in Pokémon Crystal before it was stolen, so now I've decided to take that program and bring it to my Sapphire and Fire Red versions.
I have a few problems concerning breeding... the main point being that the main attack I want for one of my 'sweepers', Earthquake, is a one-of-a-kind TM. Because of this, I'm left looking at the top three canditates who are worthy of learning this move: Aerodactyl, Flygon, and Gyarados. Here are the problems I have:
1. They don't share Egg groups.
2. Gyarados must be taught from the TM directly; Magikarp learns no TMs. The other two may have the move bred onto them, since Trapinch can learn it from a TM and Aerodactyl has no pre-evolutionary form.
3. Flygon is of the Bug egg group, while Aerodactyl is of the Flying group and Gyarados is part of the Water2 and Dragon egg groups. In other words, none can pass the move on to the others.
What can I do? Can any Pokémon that can learn Earthquake naturally teach it to any of these three?

http://www.serebii.net/attackdex/earthquake.shtmlHope that helps ^_^
Breeding owns, that's how I taught my Charizard Rock Slide XD
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
Charizard with Rock Slide? Its Attack is too weak to fully utilize it! Wouldn't breeding it onto Blaziken be a better choice?
By the way. I wanted to know if my Milotic stands a chance at effectively clearing Battle Tower. I've gotten up to match 50, then lost... just in time to get the Silver Shield. ^_^
HP: 312
Attack: 142
Defense: 204
Special Attack: 270
Special Defense: 275
Speed: 227
Nature: Relaxed
Move list: Attract, Surf, Ice Beam, Dragonbreath
I feel as if it's not living up to its full potential, even though her father was a level 100 Kingdra. What's up with that? o.O''
Kojiro - July 12, 2006 12:07 AM (GMT)
I attempted to max out the EVs in Attack XD
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
Ah, that makes more sense. ^_^
Did you have a team in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald's Battle Tower?
SpiralStatic - July 12, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)
Yurrh, all this Poke-techno-babble makes my brain hurt. Whatever happened to playing for fun? Geez, Asians. Still, what you're doing is pretty cool, but a tad too obsessive for me...

I think it was Blissey, Salamence and Latios. I think XD
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 01:29 AM (GMT)
It still is fun. It's another part of the game, that's all.
...but trying to wait for a Rhyhorn with Lightningrod when breeding moves onto it when it's a 25% chance... and wanting a male... with the Adamant nature... x.x Then it's not so fun.
Lightningrod (ability to go with Gyarados in a 2-on-2): 25%
Proper Gender (male): 50%
Adamant Nature: 1/15 chance.
Edit: Mine's Blissey, Alakazam, and Milotic.
Dragon_Tam3r - July 12, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
*counts* That's a 1/120 chance!
Can you like save the game and keep retrying untill you get what you want?
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
Nope. RNG is determined when the egg is made, so I carry around five at a time, and hope for the best. ^^''
Dragon_Tam3r - July 12, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
Wow that's gotta be annoying xD
What does that adamant nature do BTW?
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 01:44 AM (GMT)
Raises Attack by 10%, and lowers Special Attack by 10%. Since Rhydon relies on Attack and never uses Special Attack, this is the nature you want.
I ended up staying with a Quirky natured one. ^^ (No stat increases or decreases)
Kojiro - July 12, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
High level Blissey with Seismic Toss Owns.
My Moveset with Blissey was: Thunder Wave, Seismic Toss, Minimize and Sofboiled.
You could always go with a Snorlaz that knows: Rest, Belly Drum, Snore and Double Edge.

With Volt Tackle? :o
(And that Hold Item.... I forgot what it was called.)
Lades - July 12, 2006 07:13 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. I didn't know I was the only hardcore breeder when I played. I'd sell hardcore eggs to n00bs. They'd pop bagon's out and crap, and for my small 2.00 fee. Nintendo was goooood.
Valter - July 12, 2006 12:59 PM (GMT)
Teenagers that like Pokemon? *pinches self* I never thought I'd see the day....

Was that good or bad? o.o
SpiralStatic - July 12, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Some weird Valter-y mix between the two, probably.

More bad then good. In my past schools, including college, anyone over 10 caught playing Pokemon will be picked on brutally.
SpiralStatic - July 12, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
I'm too big(and strong) to be brutally picked on XD.

I had a bunch of Azurill eggs and I just sold them...sorta.
Lades - July 12, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
Hry, those pokemon fads bought me my fire emblem sacred stones game!

Which led you here, no?
Arcan - July 12, 2006 07:01 PM (GMT)
Meh, I don't care if I get picked on. In our school, 'picked on' never involves physical picking on, so sticks and stones.
Anyway, I'm not too involved wiht breeding..I'm more of a fan of contests, m'self. Although breeding can help in that, so I do sometimes..but just for natures, not movesets.
As for earthquake...well, I don't know. Couldn't tell you.
Lades - July 12, 2006 08:18 PM (GMT)
Yep. 16 egg sales later, I'm rolling teh glory of Renais. Ahh. Those little prep school kids were so stupid, yet so loaded. Almost makes me want to breed again.
As for Kurai's Q, I'd always teach it on the spur of the moment. So it at least got done.
Míxtil_<3_fish! - July 12, 2006 08:48 PM (GMT)
I *think* donphan learnis it naturally.
As soon as I discoverd EVs it ruined the fun of the game for me ;_; What happend to raising your team with love?

Eeew. Double Edge. x.x Can't stand that move...

Kind of random and spam-ish, but is the "Rest" of "Snorlaz" a (near-)OHKO like in SSBM with Jiggs? :P
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
...Pardon? Mind saying that in English for us, Alex?
Alex - July 12, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
... In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Jigglypuff has a move called rest which is a (near) one hit kill. Is it the same way in this Pokémon game with Snorlaz? >_>;
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
...Are you sure it was Rest? o.O I know it has Rollout, but I've never used Jigglypuff enough to see if it had Rest. I've certainly never seen it used, though.
Rest restores HP and cures status conditions, but puts the user to sleep for two turns. That's what Chesto or Lum berries are for.
Alex - July 12, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
Rest is B+Down and is her KO move... but Rest isn't a KO move in this Pokémon game. D:
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
...Huh. I thought that was Sing, but that certainly isn't a OHKO move. o.O''
Alex - July 12, 2006 10:12 PM (GMT)
B+Up is sing.
Anyways, return back to whatever you were talking about before I spammed this thread. D:
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
Heracross and Shuckle can learn it through TM, and they can breed it to Flygon. However, it would go no farther than that; all three are strictly in the Bug egg group.
Gyarados can learn Earthquake through TM, and could spread the move to Seviper, Altaria, and/or Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl's line would stop concerning the spread of Earthquake, but Seviper can go on to spread the move through the Ground egg group.
Or, Donphan can learn it naturally, breed to Seviper, who could spread it to Altaria. From there, it can be bred onto Aerodactyl via the Flying group! :o Holay shit! 'Tis possible!
What should I do? o.o
Kyrillos - July 12, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
In SSBM, Rest is close enough to be called a OHKO. There have been very few times where I have seen it fail. It's success in OHKO is over 95%, if the person knows what they're doing.

Yeah, but it's Snorlax. Snorlax with Belly frickin' Drum. And Rest.
KuraiKitsune - July 12, 2006 10:43 PM (GMT)
Body Slam's better. Paralysis owns. :P
Good thing you didn't use Hyper Beam. Slaking's the only Pokémon who should even CONSIDER using Hyper Beam with. :P
Kojiro - July 12, 2006 10:43 PM (GMT)
Slaking + Alakazam's Skill Swap :P
