Green Day. Muse.
Those two make up at least half my playlist.

Rofl... Muse = 75% of my playlist... Try The Strokes if you haven't. Or the Beatles.

I highly reccomend the following;
Jimmy Eat World - My favorite band. I love their alternate rock and slightly emo sound. Most of their popular stuff isn't all too emo sounding though. And they play homage to one of the most overrated songs ever; The Middle. Still, Bleed American [album] has got to be one of the greatest albums...ever. Bleed American [song], A Praise Chorus, Sweetness, The Authority Song, The Middle...all own. JEW's other songs are excellent also, so try them out.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - They have a semi-rock/alternate rock sound to them, with a mix of white rap that's hilarious to listen to. They vary their sound-style tremendously from song to song, but all in all, they're excellent. By the Way, The Zephyr Song, Can't Stop, Dani California, Stadium Arcadium, Californication...so many great songs.
Tenacious D - HILARIOUS rock-comedy band. Tribute...is easily one of the greatest songs ever. Wonderboy, Rock Your Socks, and the others, are great as well.
Breaking Benjamin - So Cold, Breath, Diary of Jane....
The Beatles - 'nuff said.
The Who - Insane live. =D
Led Zeppelin - 'nuff said.
Three Days Grace - Animal I Have Become is a great song. Their others are pretty good as well, but that one single really stands out to me.
Edgewater - Great, new, and fresh band with a nice hard rock sound.

Ska is a good kind of music.
Try Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, Mustard Plug, or the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Old and they broke up. :unsure:
I have over 250 ska bands on my MP3 Player, those are the best IMO. No Doubt wasn't bad either, or Save Ferris.

Quick question, what the hell is Ska?
