Title: Laptops

I've accumulated alot of money this summer working, and for a while I had no idea what to do with it. Now I'm thinking of saving up some more and buying a laptop. I've heard alot of good things about macs, but I'm not really sure what's the best kind to go for. Does anyone know of the pros and cons of different makes?

I myself have an old Averatec model. It's reliable, but kinda heavy; you may not think three pounds is much at first, but hefting that for three hours while walking home isn't that easy. :/ Especially if you can only use one arm while the other one's holding groceries.

While I don't know much about other models, I personally am biased against macs. *Shrugs*

Make sure you get one with wireless internet access. You can leech off people's internet connections with it, or go to wireless cafés for service. I recommend It's A Grind, if you're close to one; it's free access from them. Starbucks and Holiday Inn, however, charge money. Look around for good sources of internet leeching... but just be careful. :/ I had a guy come out toting a pellet gun and threating to shoot my laptop because I leeched off him so often.

Yeah, I was looking to find something that had really good wireless connection so I can leech.

Good, good. ^_^ Like I said, I'm against Macs, but they do have one thing going for them: if you buy the stereos, they sound MUCH better than any PC laptop I've seen. But, then again, you have to tote said stereos around. :/ Your call.

I've never liked macs, cause certain softwares are incompatible and stuff. And I'm just comfortable with Windows. Just get what you feel comfortable with.

As for leeching, I always leech off the private school and the rich neighborhoods. Time to give back to the lil guys like me. B)

Macs are far better than people think... Macs have far better security, and they're better for the creative type(You are an aspiring writer, are you not?)... Sure, Macs have a lower level of compatibility, but they don't generally need what they're incompatible with...

Well, I figured I don't need it to be compatible with most programs. I use my computer for Photoshop, and if I ever buy any games my computer will definately be able to handle it more than a laptop. I mainly want a laptop for writing, homework, and internet at my friend's houses.

Get a MacBook then.

They have built in wireless, I believe, and they have Internet, iTunes, Word, and some other stuff.

Plus, as Reyde said, better security, and MAcs are WAY BETTER at graphics.

Surprising that Video Games aren't made on Mac's, actually.

As far as PC Laptops, an IBM Thinkpad is about as good as any, cheap, and effective.

VAIO's don't compare, for their pricing.

Sorry for the revival. I ended up buying a macbook. I'm on it now, and I'm still testing stuff out. It seems good so far, though.

Fellow Mac user, welcome, to the club. You're an elite now Karny-boy, don't talk to the help. Looking them in the eye is a deadly sin. Enjoy your massive graphics superiority.

Macs have A LOT of space, but you see not much is compatable with it. At least not as much as PCs.

What would you be using your laptop for?
