Title: Making a video game
Lades - September 3, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
Well, a while back, me and a friend made a game for ourselves. It was fun, had a story, and we thought that for beginners it was okay. We called it, "Infinite Crusade". We made it on RPG maker XP, and the rest is history.
Until, the great misfortune of the missing game happened. It's deleted by something, and our back up is gone. Anyways, the point is, I'm going at it again! So I was wondering if anyone had any kind of software that helps with these things. I'm trying to make a strategy RPG. Like FE, or more along the lines of Shining force. Any tips?
As for real coding and all...I'm not good at all*

Coding is evil. Use RPG Maker X or whatever and remake it with Valter as a playable character!

Hm to make a startegy game with XP you'd have to learn how to use variables and switchesm which I assume you already do. This is XP, so maybe look around at places like phylomortis for some ruby scripts. Personally I'm an RM2K3'er myself. But if you wanna make a strat game, beware that XP's default sprite style is a bitch to emulate.

Get Sim RPG Maker. It's made for FE-style games.

Hm...coding...I can help with that if you need any. I make games from scratch. I may be a little rusty in the graphics department, but my programming skills are still as good as they were when I was really into making games. Plus, I need to get back into it if I want to persue my career in game coding. >_<
As for XP. I know a little Ruby. I'm trying to learn, but I'm mostly C++ and Java. So I might not be much use to you until I learn if you're dead-set on using RPGM XP.

I'm not dead set on anything. ^_^ Except me wanna make a strat game. Graphically I'm looking at like GBA or SNES. Gameplay is much more important.

Well, if you're not restricted by colors, why would you choose to be?

All I have to say is, if you need any help with a storyline, I can help ya. ^_^ I can't do much for the game itself, but concept art and storylines are my only strong points.
...Must be why I failed Video Game Design. :/

Art? Storylines?
:D :D Oh, you can help. Character design and storylines are very important, and you can help with those. :P
EDIT: Of course, this is all determined by if I can get software to make it. ^_^
KuraiKitsune - September 3, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
Of course. ^_^ That's obvious enough.
Drop me a PM if you need help. :)

Hmm. Is Game Maker any good?

GM is a pretty good system, but to use it you have to pay. Yes, the demo has working features, but to make a good game you need to buy.

I have RMXP at home... I could help out there. But producing a game between terminals is annoying, given that you have to send the entire project back and forth >>
