Title: Name Changes

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:14 AM (GMT)
I suggest that you limit people's number of changes to once a month, make a new topic every month, and add thier name to a list at the top of the topic after they change thier name. I also suggest that you make a person write "Formerly known as..." in thier sig or title, just so we know who they are. This is insane.

If you don't want to do it to members, do it to staff. >>

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:23 AM (GMT)
Good idea, sure... But, that'd be a waste. I personally think that that particular system is fine the way it is.

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
Well, the system we have right now isn't fine. I have no freaking idea who half the members are anymore.

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
Their sigs, member titles, or personal avatars don't help?

I actually have no problem figuring out who members are; then again, I only pay attention to the active ones.

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
The thing is, the members who change thier names, change everything else just as often.

I Have a Sandwich - November 25, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
I know who nearly all the members are. Ask me who [Blank] is and odds are I know who he is. But does it really matter? Does knowing who someone is make you treat them differently then if you know who they are, because it shouldn't.

Seriously though Kaden, you may want to stop trying to reform everything at once. Maybe introduce em one by one over time.

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
That's kinda true, I guess..

Alright, so your idea is a good one. But limited to a once-a-month-change seems... slightly ridiculous. Instead of putting "Formerly known as..." in their sig, they could post in their name change post, "Change from [name] to [new name]." I only say that 'cause some may not have enough room in their sig to put "Formerly known as..." Or they might think it looks bad in there. Ya know?

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:38 AM (GMT)
I guess that would work.

However, letting people change more than once a month is ludicrous in my eyes. There's no need for that. People should pick a name and stick with it. I mean, if you don't like a name, you shouldn't have picked it in the first place. See what I mean?

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but Kaden... Sometimes there's those, "Hey! I like this name!" but when you start to think about it "Why? Why'd I like it again?" Initially I registered on FEW as "Keiko Shadowstone." Even though I like the name "Keiko"... I wasn't feelin' it, so 'Ivan changed it for me (After Esgal gave me the nickname "Puffball"... Then everyone just started saying "Puff." It works.)

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but you were that name for at least a month. There's a difference in between Dark Hero or Beethovan name changes, and ZKX name changes. ZKX at least keeps things the same when he changes his name, and 99% of the time he keeps the ZKX initials, the other two never left any sign of thier previous names.

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
But we still knew who they were-- who Beethoven and Darkhero were, I mean.

SpiralStatic - November 25, 2006 12:54 AM (GMT)
I personally don't care about there being a limit or any of that, but it's hella annoying when people just constantly go back and forth and change names. It's ok the way BMS and ZKX do it, because they stay BMS and ZKX, they just change whatever's in between... it's just annoying...

Kaden - November 25, 2006 12:54 AM (GMT)
Members only knew who they were because they were the only members with post counts above 500 that we didn't recognize. >>

Puff - November 25, 2006 12:58 AM (GMT)
I recognized Beethoven because he had kind of an elitist attitude (if I remember correctly anymore), and Darkhero had bad grammar and annoyed the crap out of me. :/

But, whatever the admins want to do with your idea; I don't change my name anyways. (I've actually been trying to think of a new name; it's going nowhere.)

I Have a Sandwich - November 25, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
Did everyone forget the time I randomly changed my name to "I Have a Sandwich", "I Am a Passenger", and "Sentimental Johnny?" XD I just kept my avatar the same for awhile. I've had Uncle Sammich through all of my name changes.

Besides, I only did the ZKX initial thing once after I saw how BMS did it and thought it was cool.

I forgot about "Sentimental Johny" but the others I remember. For some reason I really liked "I Have A Sandwich."

Valter - November 25, 2006 01:37 AM (GMT)
I think it's annoying that people aren't happy with their names, even on the internet. I say you should stick with just one name. Choose one, and stay that way. I havn't changed my name, even though I don't care about Valter anymore.

SpiralStatic - November 25, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
I'm agreeing with Valter here. I changed my name twice, and then decided to go back to being Reydemagival20635 when I noticed that everyone STILL called me Reyde....

And we still call Illiterate, Kaden. What's the difference? They're nicknames, people have more than one nickname. Some are just used more than others... And plus, it's not like these names are our really names, so what's it matter?

1. Don't want to confuse new members.
2. Don't want to confuse old members.
3. If you look at some old rules topics, it will say like "For more information, ask Strikeraider or LuisLr8." Both of them change thier names so often, even if you did update that topic when they changed thier names, you'd be doing a lot of freaking changing.
4. People don't need to change thier name twice a week, not even twice a month. Find one you like, and stick with it.

1. New members will get the swing of things.
2. Old members already have. (Hell, if we know who changes their name a lot, then we can put 2 and 2 together, right?
3. Then just edit that out, or edit it with "For more information, contact an admin." ...? Makes sense.
4. If they want to, they will. It keeps things interesting, in my opinion.

I'm not asking to totally whipe out name changes, just simply limit. I mean, look at strike, he's had 2 new names in like, 3 days. He's a freaking admin. Staff especially should find one people recognize and stick with it.

Puff - November 25, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
I... am excusing Strike in this case, for now. But I understand what you're saying, and I digress.

3 names in two days, because I was told to change it twice. Almost three now.

ANd I'm changing again, hoping to stick withit.

I Have a Sandwich - November 25, 2006 06:33 PM (GMT)
Even though he's changed his name, he's had the same icon for god knows how long.

Dear Kaden,

Stop bitching about everything in sight, and on the site.

Sincerely,

Kayoh.

Honestly, though. It's a fucking name. Get the hell over it.

Dragon_Tam3r - November 25, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
Hate to jump in, and I have no clue how they did it, I could probably ask around, but at my old forum we have this thing that on their profile, their's an option button, and you can choose to look at their name history

I have the link right..............Here

If you look to your right, you'll see the menu button that does that.

EDIT: Here's one who actually changed his name, so you can see xD

Dear Pondy,

You're staff, don't flame bait. FEW doesn't change, which is a bad thing. The smallest changes can make the biggest difference. Everyone needs to take that in.

From,
Kaden

Strike... *sigh* No one can make you change your name unless it breaks rules or ToS, just please find one. :"(

@ZKX: That mod would be cool, but I doubt anyone here can do it. If I find Auron or Bosco, I'll point them over here.

Up to now, I was still wondering who the hell was this 'Kaden' or 'Pondy' everyone kept referring to. >_>

I have to say that I have nothing against constant name changing, but it would be very very helpful if there was some way to recognise people.

Blademastersupreme - December 9, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
I try to make it easy for anyone, new and old, to recognize who "BMS" is. Changing my name is a process I put quite a bit of thought into so if I felt like a "BigMachoSalmon" one day I'd still be "BMS"
