Title: Guidelines

Esgalglinion - January 28, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Generally, although most people doesn't officially state them, everyone has certain guidelines and rules they follow when they make decisions in the world. At least I think most priests follow the Commandments, and stuff like that. What guidelines do you people have?

Mine, as following, are some more comical than the others, but I follow them almost always.

1) "When out of options, cheat. Repeat until caught. Then lie."

I actually follow this one closely. Whenever I can't think of anything else, I take help from someone or something close to me. And I lie a great deal of time.

Although when I follow it it's more serious than that.

2) "Every day is a new day for forgiveness."

I'm very bad at holding grudges. If someone acted like an ass one day, if they act differently the day after that I forgive them. I've even become friends with former bullies because of this.

3) "Giving promises are the first step towards breaking them."

I never give a promise if I'm not 100% sure I can see it through. To some people, promises is more important than other things in world, and if you go break a promise with them, they might never forgive you. So instead of taking that risk, I'd rather just say "I'll try".

4) "Take risks for bad to get better, not for normal to get worse."

This meaning, I'd take a risk to get some extra cash, such as gambling, but not probably try to jump over the edge rather than take the bridge to get to the other side faster.

5) "You'll lose a lot of yourself if you try to be like others."

I want to have my own style, with own style of speech etc. Not much more to say.

I'm quite sure I follow other guidelines, but this is just basically what I mean.

Valter - January 28, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Umm, I have a few, I guess.

1. If you find money on the ground, don't go around looking for the person who lost it. Keep it.
2. Try to stay out of the limelight.
3. Renember to always try your hardest. The harder you work, the more you get later.
4. Go to church whenever possible.
5. Cheating can be good sometimes.

And lastly, and most importantly:

6. Don't make descisions that can alter or change your life forever without thinking of the consequences.

Alex - January 28, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
1. ... I'll do it later.
2. Do whatever to succeed (get adequate grades :P). Yeah, I cheat too, if necessary.
3. Get away from meee. I like my own little world.

I think that's it.

Dragon_Tam3r - January 28, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
1. Do whatever the hell you want, while keeping your mind open
2. If I think it's right, 9 times out of 10, it is right
3. If my team doesn't win, they'll win next time harder then how they lost
4. Keeping all your valuable possesions in a open area that everyone can see, is perfectly fine, as long as you can watch them at all times (There's a deeper meaning to that, but take it as you wish)

Severian - February 3, 2007 08:04 PM (GMT)
Esgal, your number 2 is probably the most important thing to keep to (for me). 3 is pretty important to me also, but not really important.

Also:
-Cheating is ok as long as it doesn't affect how well someone else does, their feelings, etc.
-Make some mistakes. That way I get used to them, and stay wary for the important times in my life.
-10% income to charity. The only rule I've taken from judaism, besides a general attempt at a theme of "struggle" to my life.
-Simply because someone sounds stupid doesn't mean they aren't right. After all, I probably sound stupid to them, too. That doesn't mean listen to them if they don't convince me, but let them live and think as they want to.
-Disagreement is instinctual for me, so the only gut feeling I can trust further than I can throw it is if I agree with someone or something.
-Just because I'm unemotional most of the time doesn't mean the emotions of another person, which would generally be silly coming from me, aren't justified. How to clarify? I worry about people when they're sad, try to calm them when they're angry, etc, even if I don't get much sadness, anger, etc in my own head.

Kaden - February 4, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Eh, I end up breaking mine a lot, but eh.

1. Don't be an ass. Be nice to people unless...
a) They deserve it.
B) You're making a metaphor relating to something which ends up being humorous.
c) You're making a valid argument.

2. Don't make promises, and get stuff done. If you odn't get stuff done, don't make up a crap for brains excuse, be honest. (I follow this one a lot better than #1. X_X)

3. School>Social Life. No exceptions.

4. Music is my thing, people mess with me, make fun of their hair... or tell them how hot their sister looked last night.

5. Don't trust gym coaches, they're all communists.

6. If someone won't shut up, you have the right to make them. This includes if they're dominating a debate, make them sit their ass down and shut them up.

I got more, it'll take a sec though.

Severian - February 4, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)

3. School>Social Life. No exceptions.

Oof. Keep it up while you can. I managed to be nearly perfect till junior year, and only in the past month or so have I fully declined. But....all the grades that matter are over with anyways, so it's not too much of a problem.

5. Don't trust gym coaches, they're all communists.

Agreed.

Well, I think a small number of mine are fascists rather than commies. But those are pretty much the same thing, right?

And my health teachers, who often are gym instructors as well, are just plain bitchy.

dark menace - February 4, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
1. Be sponaneous. Habits lead to a boring life
2. You're no good to anyone if you're dead
3. Nobody wants to listen to you whine when you can listen them whine
4. Never burn a bridge (you can take the literally if you can't figure out the deeper meaning)

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 04:23 AM (GMT)
Gah, I feel boring now.

1. Honesty is the best policy.
2. It's not wrong if you don't get caught.
3. :stare at the drug: That can't POSSIBLY be good for you.
4. Grades>Emotional state.
5. What doesn't break you will only make you stronger.

Next is my personal favorite. Don't take it the wrong way, though~! ^_^

6. Trust no one. You're in a cruel world, and no matter what they say, they're all aiming to break you.

How far do you take the former one? I understand it to some extent - I live by it a tad (well, not now, I'm done with my second marking period and I'm a senior) but when it gets to serious stuff, I take my mental health over my work.

But I don't find high school as hard to keep up with as most people.

As for the latter...again, how far do you take it? Do you think I'm trying to break/subdue/whatever you right now? (EDIT-Curious)

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 04:36 AM (GMT)
It's more of an 'don't allow oneself anything until you've gotten the perfect grades' thing. I don't really know where it came from. Personally, it's more of a habit now. It's mostly because of my parents.

I usually take that pretty far. I can feel like utter crap and want to puke. I could be at the worst of my health, mental and physical, but I'll still go to school.

EDIT: No... It's just a question over the web, from where I'm standing. It's not like you're going to jump out and bite me, so I'm fine. It's more of a trust issue with a lot of people that I know.

As far as being a paranoid pyscho in denial.... Well, maybe I am. I can't be angry with you if that's your opinion, right? Though.... I'm having some trouble figuring out how you came to that conclusion... @_@

O_O I never looked at it like that. Still, I put only what I believe in. Does that mean that I lie to myself even as I proclaim honesty? Would that make me a hypocrite too? O_O I'm confusing myself now~!

It's all so dizzy! @_@

Still, though...

1. I dislike liars. I've been lied to too many times for me to like lies.
2. OK, so maybe I AM psycho.... That one I just know is true. Too many fights for that to NOT be true,
3. I HATE drugs. I don't like the idea of what they can do to your body. Sure, I'll look up stuff all the time, but mostly that's for sleeping pills...
4. I don't get it! How does that make me in denial and a psycho?
5. Well, it's true, isn't it? If it doesn't break you, it'll make you stronger! It's like grades!
6. That one.... OK, I'll give you that one too. But at times, when things are actually nice for a change, that's what I remember.

Severian - February 7, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
Dude, stop trying to break hiyami with cruel words! WTF!

Anyway, I'd argue most people are psychos in denial (but we call it sanity), though perhaps not all are paranoid.

How old are you?

If you're a sophomore or junior in high school, I understand, but you shouldn't push yourself. Unless you have a goal like yale?

And even then, make sure you've got other stuff going for you. I'm sure you've heard this before, but clubs, sports, and community service are going to be helpful as well. And honestly, if you don't have quite a straight A average but have extracurriculars you'll probably look better.

If you're just shooting for grades...just because, well, I suppose that's whatcha 'gotta' do :( I actually think it's easier to do better once you stop stressing, though; I got straight a's in my junior year with a rigorous schedule when I gave myself some breathing room and knew when to go to sleep.

EDIT-But, everyone has their own problems, work habits, etc, and I don't mean to butt into your life, or pretend I know what's best. Just wanted to drop what came to mind.

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
Okay, I can see where you're coming from. The reason it's like that is, like I said, it's drilled into my mind now because of my parents. Even if I was puking my guts up, they'd still force me to go to school. After a while, I just got used to it, so I'll just try and get the notes, at least.

I'm fourteen, but I'll be turning fifteen in July..... I'm only a freshman.... See, stuff like this tells me I have issues. I don't really have a goal for now.

I just want to get through this section in life without to many mishaps, and enjoy it.... Well, as much as I can, anyways. I just take things as they come and deal with them.

You mentioned time management, in a roundabout way. Are you good with it? If you are, I'm gonna bug you, 'cause I seriously need help with it.

...

You need a hug.

*hug*

I'm not sure how you've been raised, but in my opinion, being in stress because of your parents at the age of 14/15 is, well, a bit barbaric. What occupation do your parents have?

Although, I don't kinda get the 1:st and the 2:nd. You think people should be honest, but it's alright if they don't get caught? Also, is it every lie you're talking about? Or lies about promises and such?

As for you other guys (especially DT): You are aware that calling someone psycho is a bit of a flame, right?

SpiralStatic - February 7, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
She really does stress a lot. I know that firsthand. I keep telling her to chill, but I guess it really has been drilled into her brain. Nothing I can do now... And you know, I wasn't aiming to break you Hiyami... I hope that's not about me. It'll make me feel even worse about shit than I already do...[/personal life]

Anyway, my guidelines.

1. Only lie when in an impossible situation. Any other times, the truth is the best thing you can tell.

2. Don't mess with other people's relationships, even if you have something against it.

3. Free will. I can't do much about what other people want to do, but if it hurts them in anyway, I will try to stop them.

4. Denial's a bitch. It's good not to do it, you'll only destroy yourself. The only person you have ANY obligation to be honest to, is yourself.

5. Life's a joke. Take it as one. Part of the reason life's as fucked up as it is these days is because people take it and themselves too seriously. A little humor never hurt anyone(those hurt by humor have done it to themselves)

6. Don't take shit from anyone. I live in the United States of America. It is within my constitutional right to speak my mind whenever I wish. Thus, political correctness can go kiss my ass.

7. Know when to shut up. While freedom of speech is nice and all, there are times when somethings are just better left unsaid.

8. Friends are important. My friends are my life. I'm the first person to go kick a guy's ass cause he made one of my friends cry, or the first to extend a hug when someone needs it. I can't stand to see my friends hurting. It makes me hurt...

9. Do your own thing, fuck the crowd. I don't follow the crowd, I do my own thing. Whether the crowd likes that or not, whatever.

10. Doing one thing similar to the crowd doesn't make you a hypocrite. I'm sick and tired of people calling me a hypocrite for ripping on emo kids and then predominantly dressing in black. Dressing in black does not make me emo. I don't dress in black because it's the "emo" thing to do. I dress in black because I like the color. And it's slimming. >>

*lemme take a break here... damn, I live by a lot of guidelines...*

11. Being an asshole doesn't make you a bad person. I'm an asshole, but I'm also one of the nicest softies you may ever know. Hiyami can attest to this. I try to be a nice guy, but when I'm pissed, I'm pissed.

12. Control the temper. I'm a pretty explosive guy, but I prefer to keep that under wraps. I'd scare everyone away if I ever actually exploded.

13. Life's too short to live bitterly. Have fun at every opportunity. If something(or someone) fucks you over, just let it go and live your life.

14. If you don't like something, say something. I'm sick and tired of people not liking me because of something I do. If you don't like something I do, tell me about it, and I might make a change.

15. I dunno, just follow your own rules. Breaking your own rules is worse than breaking the rules of society. Much worse.

Karn - February 7, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)
I don't know what is right and wrong. Hopefully I will find out in my lifetime. However, I do act based on certain principles.

1. Be better than everyone else.
2. Do incredible things.

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
Well, my Dad's in the army as a civilian- he's double dipping right now. Currently, he's in Afghanistan? Iran? Somewhere over there. Mom works as a secretary... Well, it's a really long name. But it more or less sums up the term secretary.

I dislike when I'm lied to, but if I don't find out, it's fine, 'cause it won't affect me negatively. So more or less, if I'm deluded let me stay deluded. As far as promises... Well, if someone breaks one to me, it's safe to say that they're not going to be happy with themselves later on.

IS that really a flame? It's just an opinion, isn't it? Confuzzled again. @_@

As for you, I know. People do a lot of things without intending to. That wasn't about you. It's just a mistake that I made. Now, I've just got to be sure not to do it again. That was one of my policies, remember? What doesn't break you makes you stronger.

Don't worry about it. I already knew it was coming! ^_^

Stop being so damn innocent (or scary, depending on how you look like it). @_@

Psycho=Mentally Disturbed Person

Calling someone mentally disturbed is a flame. Of course, if you didn't feel offended by it, there's no point in bringing it up.

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 09:07 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry? I didn't mean to disturb you! What is it that I should stop? What is my error? Tell me! I'll do m best to quell it...

As far as being mentally disturbed... Well a lot of people from my school consider me as such and hold me in that light. More or less, I'm used to it. I don't have a say in it, so why bother being irked by it?

Esgalglinion - February 7, 2007 09:08 PM (GMT)
Err, no, it's just me having off-topic thoughts.

As I said, if a person isn't offended, there's no point in bringing it up. If it was me, I'd get upset if someone called me a psycho in a serious conversation.

Hiyami - February 7, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
Mehs. Okay, then, I suppose? Anyhow, I suppose it's just another factor in a person's being? By what rules and values they hold to them, it becomes something big or small, depending. Kind of weird, kind if interesting.... It's just one of those things, I like to assume.

Durendal - February 25, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
1. Do what you feel.

If you deny yourself then you're not really being yourself.

2. Don't get caught

Pretty self explanitory

3. Do what you say.

If you don't do what you say no one will take you seriously, wether its "i'll clean my room" or "i'll knock your teeth in if you don't shut up" say what you mean, and mean what you say.

Hiyami - February 26, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)

Gatemaster Leon - February 27, 2007 05:42 AM (GMT)
1. Do what you mean, never act if you don't have a purpose.

2. Don't intentionally hurt someone, but if it's hurting you, go ahead.

3. Try all options, try again, then move on.

I'm sure there's more.... just can't put m finger on them right now

1. Life blows, and people out there are out to get you. Watch your back.

If you've ever been stolen from before... you know how I feel. :/ Good thing I don't have night school anymore. x.x

2. Don't wear shoes in the house. xD

My way of saying, respect what people do in the privacy of their homes. If you're a guest, abide by their rules.

3. You've got boundaries, but I got 'em too.

Respect others' boundaries, and they should respect yours.

4. If it touches you without you wanting it to, bite it!

No, seriously. o.o Ask ZKX. If anyone grabs me and I don't know who the heck it is, I bite 'em. It's just that... I don't like being grabbed, held, or anything like that if I don't know who's doing it! >.<

5. If you've hit rock bottom, be happy that it can't get any worse. x.x

2. The quieter the person, the more likely it is that they've murdered a dozen people.

3. Avoid people like Kurai. She'll bite you.

4. Remember that, no matter what you do, porn is ALWAYS the right choice.

5. Never doubt someone named BMS on an online forum for he is in fact God

Oh, wait. I forgot a few.

6. Retards that make a microwave set off a fire alarm deserve to be shot.

Yesterday, a teacher in the upstairs lounge of our 100 building put a Hot Pocket in an old microwave for an hour. It 'sploded, caught fire, and made the whole frickin' school to evacuate for the better half of 20 minutes. They didn't even let us go home. Pricks. x.x

7. If you show me illegal drugs, I will shove them up your ass. Painfully.

I can't stand the thought of illegal drugs. x.x

8. Repeated thoughts of homicide via a chair through the skull are normal.

ZKX knows all about my hatred towards a substitute Art teacher. Literally, the only thing stopping me from doing him in is the fact that I'd be tried as an adult. :/ It'd probably still be worth it, though.

9. Got Porn? Then don't show it to me or talk to me about it!

Yeah, yeah. Guys have to get their rocks off somehow. I just really don't want to hear about it. x.x

My guidelines? More like...:

1) Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Golden rule, isn't it? Works, though.

2) Watch your mouth. You don't know how other people could take it.

3) Try to help as many people emotionally as possible. So many people need someone to listen to them, why not me? And, besides, I love hugs, and they're nice to get when you're feeling sad.

4) Put in as little effort as possible to get the job done, but to do it well. If you're not going to try, especially in sports, I'll probably freak out at you.

5) Family comes first, then friends, then anyone else. Family's forever, and guys come and go faster than friends.

Yaoi and shonen-ai are TOTALLY DIFFERENT!

Yaoi ist guyxguy stuffs that ist more realistic. Er... less cutesy, more likely.

Shonen-ai is pretty boy-love~! Both of them are cuddly, but shonen-ai is prettier. ^_^

And may I place a claim on Kurai-san?

7. If you show me illegal drugs, I will shove them up your ass. Painfully.

I can't stand the thought of illegal drugs. x.x

Look, some people who will do number 7 might be used to that. But PLEASE restrain yourself if it's in a needle, that's not a pretty picture.

Not even Yaoi? :/

I've started to look at you in a completely different perspective now. :3

New one: do not assume all girls who write fanfics like yaoi.

Not really a major guideline but I'll have to remember it.
