Title: Stranger in an Un-estranged Land

Kyrillos - March 12, 2007 03:20 AM (GMT)
Do you grok it? Hmph. That's cool, grok is an accepted word in Firefox 2.0. Anyways, I'm sure that my sporadic bouts of that "life" substance pisses a great deal of you off. I bid to you, not to worry, I'm still the old lecherous, over-informed, insane, procrastinating, infuriating narcissistic humanist that this board has come to know and love. However, it is to some people gratification that I cannot be a solo Leviathan, nor can I create a Leviathan with my current political swagger that I used to hold so tight and dear. To the people who who got the gratification of my inability to be a Leviathan, you do not know any sort of Cosmogenic [Going to have to add this to FF 2.0's dictionary <<;] or Heroic cycle, for I'm simply waiting to be reincarnated so that I may travel to a nirvana free of the certain hypocrisies and lies which may have been fed to you during a "Battle School"-esque era of time.

This should go without saying, blatantly speaking:

Which would go to say that I believe that my introduction goes without a proper introduction from me. I'll be to and from this place, not very often, mind you all, but just enough to enjoy my usual needs of vexing you people to discorporate into a seemingly smaller and smaller object until you are of no harm to anyone else.

Eww eww eww. Stranger in a Strange Land. Don't think I'm going to point out the references to that, since I'm not exactly a big fan. Among other things, I'll note that it isn't science fiction by Heinlein's own definition of sci-fi, so it doesn't affect the quality of the genre, and it can't be the best sci-fi of the last century like the cover of the copy I read claims.

I know of some people who dislike Stranger but like Heinlein, so I won't give up on him simply because I found one of his books to be mediocre.

I will note that Hobbes' Leviathan is a sorta "man in natural state is bad" while Heinlein's Stranger is more like "ya, it's all this stuff we've created as a society that's bad"; I would argue the two references contradict each other. I don't know anything about any other sorta leviathan...well, there's the biblical demon which started it all, and the summoned monster from FF, but I don't know anything about people becoming one.

Do martians in Stranger actually discorporate into smaller things? I thought they just poofed into the elders or whatever.

Wait, wait, don't tell me?

Payas? Or whatever those things jews have are? I should really know how those are spelled, but I don't.

I don't really look very jewish anyway, besides a somewhat large nose.

Some form of cottage cheese that is a metaphor for the rapid speed at which America is slowly raping all the little midgets from Coolbekistan?

Kyrillos - March 13, 2007 01:27 AM (GMT)
I feel the need to refer you all to an author with the name of Orson Scott Card.

Severian - March 13, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
Is that the "sporadic bouts about life substance pissing you all off" bit a reference? I've read a few interviews and writings by card and I'm pretty sure he said something like that (referencing the aiua stuff he had made up for the later parts of the ender quartet).

*Looks at original post*
Oh. Oh. "battle school". I thought you were talking about Battle Royale :P

Anyway, I was not trying to name all the references in your post, so w/e. I don't have anything in particular to note about Card in relation to your post, so why would I bring him up? That being said, besides the fact that Heinlein was possibly a "no-homo" author, I'm not too sure they're very compatible either

EDIT-But note that I'm going entirely by Stranger and none of Heinlein's other works.

Kyrillos - March 13, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that Heinlein was either Humanist or something else for me to determine at a later date.

Severian - March 13, 2007 03:06 AM (GMT)
Considering that thing he had Jubal say about some greek statue (maybe it was David?) makes me think he was...I don't really know, but I kinda think of Jubal as Heinlein's POV in Stranger.

Kyrillos - March 13, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
I tend to think of Jubal as anti-Heinlein.

Alas, I shall have to make a topic in the BAGGAM.

Yes Yes.

I'm proud to be in the know with you too, Kurai. Me and Taoma are the only one's outside your friends that are in the know of your sexual preferences

Kyri or Aien works fine for me, Kurai.

KuraiKitsune - March 14, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
Sexual what? o.o

But yeah. Anyways. xD It's good to talk to you on an open message board again. My inbox was overly flooded and I lost two commission forms with all the PMing I've been doing today. ^^''

Excuse me senorita.

Can we still go to Pan's Lab? xDDD

[So wishes he lived in Cali.]

Gotta be better than here, where I get Post Nasal Drip and drown myself.

KuraiKitsune - March 14, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
Oh, god, I wish. xD That movie was awesome.

Gotta be better than here, where we broke a record high temperature that kills Kurai's sinuses, gives her headaches, and starts fires. o.o

Slightly different form of sir used by a fantasy author in his works. Possibly part of the vocabulary of some language (more colloquial english even?) but I know it only by its appearance in his works.

Karn - March 15, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Martin tends to use strange spellings for things. I just happen to like the way "ser" looks as opposed to "sir."
