but you realise that the main reason why anyone would go to another planet would be because you don't like the one you're on. after all, a 2 way trip would be pretty pricy, not to mention you would lose contact with everyone still here. no middle class person would pay for an intergalactic trip unless they really, truly believed it would be in their interests.

I read about that. After we screw Earth over even more, we'll move over there and destroy that planet too.

That's, interesting. I wonder how many wars we'll have with the potential inhabitants of said planet? I mean, what if there's a sentient race over there that happens to like living on their planet, and they decide to go, "uh, fuck off invaders" and they turn out to have far superior technology to that of Earth and we get boned. There goes BILLIONs of dollars worth of research. But of course, it's definitely a fascinating discovery.

well we should hope that our Generals and advisors would have at least heard the saying 'know thy enemy'. but finding intelligent life is next to impossible. then again it might en up in a history book in the future saying 'the first habitable planet found also supported intelligent life'
