Currently, I am writing a book, and am hoping to publish it since I have written many practice books that have led up to this. I was wondering if you all would comment on it when I post some of on this board, since a large amount of people come on boards like these. I like having multiple opinions from people all over places, so this is one of the best places.
Your best bet is probably to post it regardless of whether anyone says yes.
If you tell me I'll probably at least look at it. But I think most people who would be willing to go for any longer praise, criticism, and advice ask for $$. Regardless of the actual quality of my advice, I do tend to offer large amounts of it fairly often, and I try to be bipolar in my opinion (say as much good and bad as I can).
My advice - and it's not from experience, but I've seen a lot of authors say this - is that it's easier if you start with some short stories and stuff you send into a magazine, and get some published work out, before you go looking for a publisher. If nothing else, it gets you used to medium-length works before you get into something crazy long.
People on the internet tend to be overly critical or overly step-around and 'ya it's nice' without any real reason as to why. I actually was super critical once, but only because it was a fanfic (like 1 of the 5 fanfics I read that year so don't laff at me) about jaffar in the black fang that made his life and the black fang seem like happy flowers and teatime.
I made an ass of myself by being patronizing without very much firsthand experience, huh? Well, my short answer is yes, I'll try to take a look.
But I betcha there are some 'writers forums' where you could get advice from people with the same problems you have.
I'm thinking about trying to be a writer, but I decided I won't even try until Junior year of college, Labor day weekend. I want to try the 3-day novel contest! I have some ideas for what I might want to do, but I want to just let the cauldron bubble for a bit and have my life go on its own.
