Title: Uplink

A pretty neat hacking game. It's (hopefully) not realistic, since I'm able to destroy a corporation's mainframe after 2 days of playing, but it's pretty neat, and prolly a little more accurate than stuff like Snow Crash and The Matrix.

Certain types of missions get repetitive after the third or fourth time you do them. Thankfully, all the missions I've done so far usually take under 10 minutes. And you can usually get all the cash you need for the moment simply by asking for $$ in advance on any job you accept. There's no deadline for missions or nothing.

As you progress, you get to use more and more cool little doohickeys to crack systems. At first all you're doing is bouncing connections and copying and deleting files, but after a little bit you start getting hired to change information on government sites (like, this person is employed, deceased, has a university degree, etc). I avoid stuff like that, though, because it makes me feel guilty to give someone a lower qualification, get someone out of prison, put a fellow hacker behind bars w/ foul play, etc.

There are some other cool features. It seems like there's going to be some sort of storyline at some point, and you can buy stocks which increase or decrease in price based on what companies you're helping and hurting. You can upgrade your computer, and even attach bombs so you can destroy it if the feds are coming to it (it's sorta long story, but you're accessing it remotely).

Also, I got the full version for free, so that's alright then. Also, because missions are so quick, I've been able to get significant stuff done w/ about 15 minutes of time.

I think there's a trial version somewhere.
