Shit... A certain event happening today has just brought the truth and the power of death right into my face. About 10 or 15 minutes ago, my mom came into the computer room and told my father and I that my next door neighbor Chad had passed away this morning. At first, I didn't believe it. Then, I asked her how. She said, he had a seizure and they weren't able to get him to regain consciousness.

He was only 18 years old... and we were in the same boat. We'd just graduated, we would both be off to college in a couple of weeks, and we were both finally starting our summer vacations. I think that's why this hit me so hard... It could've happened to me. It could have been the exact same story, just with my family instead of his. I mean, he wasn't epileptic or anything, and he was just out doing something healthy, he was playing basketball. He just keeled over and kicked the bucket. It just brought to light how unfair life truly can be. It scares me... that that could just happen to anyone, at any time, in any place.

It's so fragile, life. I mean, we're all so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, just one of those billion points of light in the sky, that could at any time simply be extinguished. So if anything... I guess it puts into perspective how we take things for granted, particularly something so passing as life. I could go tomorrow, and aside from friends and family, who'd care? I'd just be some other random death in an obituary. I think I'm on the verge of tears right now, but it's just so... hopeless sometimes.

But I guess we have to face death at one point in our lives. Life and death go hand in hand, there wouldn't be one without the other. Eventually, we all turn to dust, return to the planet and give our life to breed more life. It's a cycle, and I guess we have to appreciate what we have here and now, first and foremost. We don't have all the time in the world... we'd do well to enjoy what little time we have.
