Title: Lone Wolf Adventure Books

First off, to nightwalker, I will try to post on the common sense thread on friday or saturday. To everyone else nice to see ya again.

I dunno if anyone else loved the Lone Wolf books as a kid, but I know I did. Choose your own adventure w/ RPG elements, carry over stuff from book to book, adventure to save nerdy sounding RPG countries. Ok, the actual plot is that you're this apprentice warrior monk dude, the monastery you're training at is slaughtered by evil stuff, and you have to get to the capital of sommerlund and warn the king.

Well there's a game that looks totally badass coming out based on the first book, Flight from the Dark.
http://www.ksatria.com/

Frankly it looks pretty amazing, since this company isn't (from what I can see) connected to some big game company and I don't think Joe Dever (who is lead designer for the game) is rich enough to be funding it all on his own or something. To me at least it looks spectacular.

This has a few magazine and web articles covering the game, and claims that the company is aiming for an August '08 release date on the PC.

This article is in that "archive" but there's a comment from one of the main guys on the project (Raymond) at the bottom so it might be worth checking out. It also is a quick review of the demo so it is probably the most interesting of the sources I've found on the game. It may get moved to the XBox 360 and PS3. This makes me happy since I have several good friends w/ xbox 360 who live in close proximity to my dorm room.

Normally I would expect a game like this to be pretty crappy. However Ksatria is making a pretty strong showing considering it's such a small company IMO. Also there has been a resurgence in Lone Wolf's popularity as a company has republished, I think, the first 3 books. The first is totally reworked and the second two have extra material (I think you adventure as another character for a bit) and mongoose aims to release the whole series (including the extremely rare UK only books). And I believe that Dever is also going to finish the series with another few books. Finally books 1-17 are on http://www.projectaon.org/, free to read and w/ an easy to use interface, and the last 3 in the Grand Master series should be published at some time in the future, as well as the rest of the series (though it may be a while).

My only recommendations for anyone who plays the books is DO NOT BRING THE SUMMERSWERD TO THE CAULDRON OF FEAR OR THE DUNGEONS OF TORGAR!! They will make two really tough fights a whole lot tougher. Though you do need to track down a different special weapon in torgar if you don't get the summerswerd.

And Dever, who is working on it, said that he aims for the game to be better than the book in terms of plot, since he is now looking back on it w/ much more experience and is adding more detail to it (you get to see the battle at the monastery at the start of the game). And I don't think his involvement is just token support, apparently he's currently living in singapore w/ the team.

Oh and mongoose's site where one can order the new books is here:

Truth be told the series is kinda corny and the story rather simplistic, but it's dear to me heart and I had a great deal of series with the first 18 books. I'm not sure yet if I'll invest in the new books or not.

At first I didn't read this thread because I didn't know what the lone wolf books were, but now I'm really mad I missed them as a kid. Around the time they were popular I was living in the Philippines, so unfortunately I wasn't able read them. The game looks pretty interesting and I think I'll check more into it.

-Thanks Cev.
