Title: Macbeth
Description: Act VI, Scene I

Okay, here's the story. We've been doing Macbeth in English class and it's been intense. One day, our teacher told us to go over and find quotes for each of the 10 elements of tragedy (pain, suffering, death, pathos, retribution, remorse, transformation, torment, exaltation, and sublimity). During this time, I got really hyper and decided to write my own act to Macbeth. It includes all of these things. I considered passing it in but, well, I'd rather save my sanity. And I thought you'd like it, so here it is! (Note: It starts off normal but you'll soon see where my hyperness kicked in. I'm... crazy.)

Act 6, Scene One

Dunsinane

Enter Malcolm, sitting on throne.

Malcolm: Ah, 'tis well that this all has passed.
Macbeth hath not the patience of a king
Nor the goodwill of it.

Enter Fleance from behind a random bush

Oh ho? good man, I am gladdened
To have thine presence at the crowning.

Fleance: Are you not pleased to follow your father
In becoming king of Scotland?

Malcolm: I am, indeed.
Only despairing in the time preceding
Which should soon be forgotten.

Enter Macduff from the ceiling.

Welcome, friend! And I bid thee
Congratulations on thy slaying
Of that tyrant, Macbeth.

Macduff: Thanks.

Malcolm: Lo, havest thou beenst injured
In thy brush with Hades?

Macduff: Uh, no. Why?

Malcolm: Thy havest a growth on thy breast.

Macduff unbuttons his shirt for a bit. Cue "Oooh!" from live studio audience. Macbeth's head pops out.

Macduff: Uh, I thought I killed you...?

Macbeth: You're technically born of a woman,
So I couldn't really die. Now I've
Become transformed.

Macduff: Uh?

Fleance: Transformed into what?

Macbeth: A transformer.

All: TRANSFORMERS, MORE THAN
MEETS THE EYE!

Enter Old Man disguised as a woman through floor tiles.

Old Man: Hey, what's up?

Exit Old Man through floor tiles.

Fleance: Exactly what do you transform into?

All: TRANSFORMERS! ROBOTS IN DISGUISE!

Macduff: Uhh...?

Macbeth turns Macbeth into MEGATRON

Malcolm: Heaven only knows
What it is I have eaten
That hast played this mind foolery on me.

MEGATRON: I'LL SHOW YOU "FOOLERY"!

MEGATRON blasts Malcolm with his laser cannon, turning him into ashes.

Fleance: The prophecy has been fulfilled!
I am to be king, as the weird sisters
Proclaimed to father Banquo!

Enter Lennox from right.

Lennox: Dude, what happened to Duff-man?

Fleance: Bwahahaha! I am king!

Lennox: Sweeeeet.

Enter Doctor, rushing to Malcolm's remains.

Doctor: I am afraid to say it,
But his wounds are most fatal.

MEGATRON: I'LL SHOW YOU "FATAL"!

MEGATRON blasts Doctor with his laser cannon.

Lennox: Sweet, dude. Sweet.

MEGATRON: I'LL SHOW YOU "SWEET"!

MEGATRON blasts Lennox with his laser cannon.

Fleance: King! King! I almost cannot
Believe it!

MEGATRON: I'LL SHOW YOU "IT"!

MEGATRON blasts Fleance with his nuclear missiles.
Enter Old Man disguised as a woman through floor tiles.

MEGATRON: LET'S HAVE A BACKWARDS-A-THON!

MEGATRON and Old Man run backwards in circles, with MEGATRON blasting all props and some audience members with laser cannons ever second.

CHORUS: Alleluia! Alleluia!

Angel descends on a rope from the ceiling.
MEGATRON and Old Man stop running.

Angel: I am the sprinkle fairy!
Man your cupcakes always be sprinkled!

Chorus continues singing as sprinkles fall around MEGATRON and Old Man.

Angel: Bye now!

Enter Lords & Meredeith, shooting down Angel.

Angel: I feel pain!

Meredeith: I feel remorse.

Lord 1: I envoke pity.*

MEGATRON picks up wounded Angel and Old Man and exits through the ceiling via his rocket boots.

Lord 2: I just want a line!

Meredieth: THE END!

Remaining members perform the can-can until camera fades out completely.

* - According to the dictionary I used the English class prior to writing this, "pathos" means "quality that arouses pity". :P

Any comments, criticisms, or suggestions? :P

I personally think...

Too much talking and too little action. That is the only flaw I see in this work of art.

I believe that Megatron actually is supposed to be global warming in this act, due to the fact that he changes into megatron implies that global warming is going to come out one day, and as in the play that has been written in this topic, destroy the three major powers of the world.

Lets start from the beginning. Fleance and Malcolm have a discussion which seems to indicate that they are both indeed friends. At the very least, we can assume that they know each another in some sort of way. He is "following his father in becoming king of Scotland" which points out that in the future, United States will eventually have another country that becomes as or even more powerful then itself. Macduff can be viewed as the planet we all live on, earth. Macbeth is the earth's evil counterpart known as global warming. Also commonly referred to as that evil spirit inside of everyone, global warming is the "evil spirit" of our very planet according to this...I thought this was an interesting turn in the story and I believe this was an interesting viewpoint for Sara to take.

When Macduff says thanks to Malcolm's congratulations, it is heavily implied that he has infact slain Macbeth (otherwise known as global warming). However, soon after, Malcolm notices something on Macduff's breast. Now, some may ask, where are the breasts of planet earth located at? Well, this is up for interpretation. However, there are several theories of where the breasts of planet earth are located. I can not take the time to delve into them at this time due to the higher level processing it would require at this time of night. Anyways, as you go on, you find out the thing on macduff's breast is infact global warming (Macbeth).

Now I find this line fascinating and really adds to the development of the story from this point on. Macbeth states "You're technically born of a woman, so I couldn't really die. Now I've become transformed." I believe what is being said in this line is that the earth has and always will have global warming so there is no way to get rid of it. Think about it, there are some theories out there that say global warming is part of the natural cycle of our planet and it can do no harm. But if that is true, and this global warming causes harm, could we be under a false sense of security!? Or perhaps it is implying that even our greatest ancestors contributed to global warming? So many ideas and such depth I would never expect from a random writing, however I am sure the hyperactivity contributed to the creativity involved in putting together such an act.

Now we find out in the next few lines that macbeth has transformed. Macbeth must have meant that when he said he became a transformer that he has actually become dangerous enough to affect the planet at this point. The line that says transformers more than meets the eye clearly indicates that global warming is and always has been much more threatening than we initially thought and since we did not take the proper precautions to stop it in the first place it has come back to screw us over. Anyways, after these lines we find out about an Old man who pops in and says hello. I believe this is the act's manifestation as a higher being that some refer to as god, and he has disguised himself as a human to come to the world and watch over global warming for some sort of reason that we could not possibly fathom.

Now we can skip down to the part where Macbeth finally transforms into Megatron (which is the actual global warming or the dangerous kind). Malcolm goes on about how he must be seeing things or being fooled which clearly indicates the world is in denial that global warming exists and/or that we have got rid of it. He then feels the true wrath of global warming and it ruins Malcolm (whichever country he is supposed to be, I have a hunch I have been working on that Malcolm is Vietnam; I will not go into the details at this time). Next up is Fleance, who was also looking to uptake the king (which is clearly the United States). I believe that Fleance is China, and China is finally going to become the super power of the world. Lennox comes in from the right, which perplexed me at first, but once I read it over a few times I understood it. Lennox is the United States of America. You see, China and Malcolm (Possibly Vietnam) are able to become the new king or super power of the world because the United States has deteriorated that much in this time line. It is heavily implied by the way Lennox speaks, it has degenerated into something less powerful. The United States also flaunts its ignorance in the question it posed "what happened to duff man?".

Next enters doctor. Now this one was quite confusing to me for awhile, but after analyzing it I think I finally understand who doctor is. It must be something with some sort of career that checks to see if people are dead. So I thought hard about what career checks to see if people are dead and came to no true conclusion. I mean, I guess police can KIND OF do such things, but they can not truly dedicate their career to finding dead people. So, it has come to my attention that the doctor is infact someone's brother. This brother also happens to be a doctor, and he is related to someone with some sort of ability in something. He has the ability to see if people are dead, so it is clear he must possess a pair of binoculars. Whether this man is a human or monkey however...I can't quite answer.

Right after this man is killed by global warming, which goes to show that it is ironic how his fate was to always find dead people when he himself has become a dead man. This small act has been based around the irony of ignorance, flaunting, and laughter. Ignorance being the most used idea in this one though, so we can not skip past such thoughts of royalty and perhaps anguish. I believe it is true. ;)

You then see global warming ruin the U.S. and soon after ruin China. The old man (who is really god) comes back out and starts running backwards with global warming. This shows how our world has not been moving forward and progressing, but that we have been going backwards and regressing. It is attempting to teach us that we must learn from what we are doing and begin to head forward once more instead of putting ourselves in a situtation of financial ruin.

They stop running once an angel comes down, which I believe that this is an angel from heaven. It tells them about "cupcakes", which is actually saying that mankind has learned its lesson and will have to rebuild it self with whats left. But it also goes on to state that it is not the angels choice to decide since the angel is not god, and says that he hopes god and global warming make the right choice. As he flies off, some lords and Louie come in and shoot down the angel, which is showing that they do not agree with the angel's ideas. It is obvious why the angel feels pain because the angel does not like what will happen to mankind if god and global warming agree with the lords.

Louie says he feels sorrow because that would mean he would be killed by global warming, and lord 1 says I envoke pity* which is showing that he is allowing the stars to feel pity for Louie. When Lord 2 says I just want a line, he is merely saying that he just wants a line. Of course, before this you see global warming pick up god and leave, which shows that global warming has developed a stable relationship with god, which goes to show a stable relationship with the planet, which shows that global warming and the earth can coexist in harmony.

I believe this act was quite well written and is an interesting read for anyone 7 or older. I believe I will suggest that some of my colleagues read this to gain better understanding of things that go on in our world. I believe you are a genius sara, you have done a wonderful job on this.

This is one seriously fucked up topic. Sara's Macbeth was plenty funny, but that analysis was just. Just. Wow.

I'm actually dissapointed that there was only one scene. I got more lost in Kippy's stuff than Sara's. :"(

Does sublimity mean something akin to subliminal or sublime? I'm gonna guess the latter. I never really understood the elements of tragedy, so I dunno if I'm right here, but I think that generally pathos means that there's something about a character's actions you can sympathize with. Not sure though.

Indeed good sir. If you further consider the situation, you will probably find further considerations in relation to global warming. Macbeth is a play centered around the fall of kings, and the rise of malcolm, as well as malcolm himself, are fairly unimportant except in terms of providing for the fall of Macbeth, the principal character of the play. Sara's addition to the work continues this theme by again involving the fall of a king, but this time no new monarch rises to take his place. Instead, the usurper has taken over through technology - the powers of industrialization, the economy, etc that are controlled by the merchant class have usurped the monarchy and aristocracy. In short, Act 6 of Macbeth illustrates the rise of the capitalist state.

Of course, with the advent of industrialization (macbeth) comes new dangers as man gains more control of the world. In the fall of Macbeth, the "attack from the trees" of Birnam forest identifies the counter-revolutionary forces with nature. Indeed, Macbeth is in truth a play about Man VS Nature. Though it defeats him temporarily, nature is ultimately unable to supress man's advancements and he gains control of it. By becoming a fuel-guzzling transformer macbeth has fulfilled the prophecy of man: "do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."

The old man's constant appearances/dissappearances, as well as his identity confusion (man or woman) obviously alludes to the elusive nature of god. Though many philosophers have tried to define and prove his existence no single universal definition has proven successful. Additionally, the appearances and dissapearances relate to god as he is worshipped by humanity. Macbeth, our ubermensch, attempts to slay him, to prove true that "God is dead and we have killed him" yet, like in Russia, where communists tried to suppress religion, the attempt is unsuccessful and god remains for all mankind. Ultimately, if god can leave human consciousness, then so can industry and technology.

Additionally, the refernce to duff man, a character from the simpsons, refers to US culture in 3 ways: directly to the simpsons, to our obsession with our cultural icons and brain-dulling media, and to our rampant commercialism. As China's power rises up, it becomes threatened by global warming (macbeth) because of it's constantly increasing technology, while the US' fall from grace leaves us clueless as to where our mass produced products, no longer sustained by a wealth market of consumers, have gone.

I think your interpretations are missing something important. Neither of you really addressed the use of language in the play.

Typically, iambic pentameter is used for nobles and important characters. In the above act, only Malcolm and Fleance speak in iambic pentameter. Malcolm, the current king, and Fleance, the king to be, have a tie to nobility. The position of king, and everything that follows is important to both of them.

Macduff enters and breaks the smooth iambic pentameter, signaling an almost universal change throughout the rest of the act. Macbeth, or global warming, as Kipdog pointed out, destroys both Fleance and Malcolm. Environmental forces have destroyed the current societal order of monarchy. Fleance and Malcolm were trying to hold on to the vestiges of kingship and feudalism and were destroyed because of their unwillingness to change.

However, the meaning of the act is further compounded after the death of Fleance and Malcolm. After the order represented in the rule of a king has passed away, the action of the act descends into chaos. The audience, representative of the masses, shouts in jubilation over their freedom from oppression. The people, now free, do not know what to do with their lives. An angel comes down from the heavens and tries to show the audience what is important. Megatron, representative of environmental forces, and the Old Man, representative of the acceptance of change over a lifetime, are spotlighted in sprinkles. However, the lords and Meredieth come in and shoot down the angel, who is the only hope of the masses. Megatron leaves with the Old Man and the Angel, leaving the masses with new oppressive nobles.

Ultimately, the act is about change and responsibility. The kingship of the old generation tries to hold on to the old order of society for too long do to greed, and eventually are brought down by natural forces. However, the lower classes cannot create order on their own because they are too disorganized and apathetic. Thus, a new order of lords and nobles establishes power over the masses once again, in a cycle that will never end until the masses begin to think for themselves.

What you say is all valid and true, but what about rocket boots?

Karn - April 21, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
Maybe Megatron's rocket boots represent the speed with which everything is becoming messed up. Or maybe Megatron represents both industrial/manmade forces as well as natural forces.

By the way, who is Meredieth?

I can not answer that question at this time.

It's probably worth noting that, at first, Macbeth does TRY to maintain iambic pentameter:

Macbeth: You're technically born of a woman,

Become transformed.

The first line is between 9-10 lines. You're can be pronounced as you're or you are. Similarly the next line has the same thing with I've VS I have. I think that Macbeth had tried to imitate royalty by memorizing lines to say during his takeover, but botched them by using contractions instead of the full words.

As for meredieth I have no idea but perhaps this is the more personal first name of Lady Macbeth?

A few comments here on my part:

1) Meredeith is a random Lord, I believe. I'll check in the morning in my book.

2) I honestly didn't mean to write in iambic pentameter. I just tried to sound Shakespearean but was too lazy to make it official.

3) Yes, Ursula, I did it for a laugh.

4) Congratulations. You guys found the hidden meaning of all this random nonsense. I tip my hat to you. Just goes to show how crazy English people can find a hidden meaning in everything. ;)

... Seriously, though, I'm actually both amused and intrigued by your analysis...es. :P

Are you perhaps implying that some members on this message board are crazy and english at the same time?

Preposterous!

I believe this requires a PreposteROUS. You know, the rapper, PreposteROUS.

You did not spell "though" correctly.

I don't know what you're talking about. Look back at my post. I spelled it right. I think you modified my post because you're evil. Also, by making claims about my bad spelling you weaken my arguments by making it seem like I might occasionally make mistakes or use shortcuts in attempting to explain my arugment, which in turn weakens the case against global warming.

Am I the only one who just thinks it was a funny random thing?

Yes, the rest of us all seriously think this act was about global warming.

Huh...thats odd...could've sworn it said "tho". My apologies fine sir. I guess thats what I get...

Not all of us think this is about global warming Sev. Im on board with it, but Karn thinks it is about change and responsibility.

Karn isn't one of "us" because he disagrees with us. Also, I herd somewhere he is a robot so what if he's lying because he knows global warming will help the robots take over!!!??????!!! THIS IS SRS BIZNESS!

Hmm, I didn't know I know, but I know I know because, you know, you said I know. Knowing that I know I know...I know that's knowledge.

KNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWWONKKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOWKNOW

After that, I think I realized what a weird word know is. I actually said to myself "wait, is that how I spell know? I don't know..." it was very confusing until I googled it and saw that I was spelling it right.

BTW I didn't edit that post. And I'm posting this separately so everyone notices.

^ that's kinda creepy combined with his sig. and I now know what the guy in his sig is from, so that actually adds another level of creepy...

Total slaughter, total slaughter. I won't leave a single man alive. La de da de die, genocide. La de da de dud, an ocean of blood. Let's begin the killing time. that was a pretty good anime, but that guy in your sig was pretty much psycho. he reminded me a lot of Shinomori Aoshi from Rurouni Kenshin.

I must agree. That's why appearance was really the only thing Aoshi and him had in common. Aoshi was just another emo that happened to have sword skillz up to his ears

SeverIan. - April 23, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
Ok, but Legato was pure awesome, while Aoshi, by virtue of being in the same anime series as Saito Hajime, was just a wannbe.

He also fought against global warming in the Kyoto Arc.

Karn - April 23, 2008 06:11 AM (GMT)
Shishio was pretty badass as well. So was Ged Sparrowhawk.

Reydemagival20635 - April 23, 2008 07:12 PM (GMT)
I dunno, Aoshi was a badass, until Saito showed up... cause Saito's awesome. And he actually existed! He really was one of the Shinsengumi, and was the only one to die of old age... how badass is that? A SAMURAI, dying of OLD AGE!

And about you'se guys's analyses... OMG WALLS OF TEXT NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I forgot, Kenshin's teacher was the most badass guy in that show.

Reydemagival20635 - April 23, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
That's true! And even more so cause he refused to do anything cuase he was retired.

Seijuro Hiko or something like that. Yes, he was awesome, fighting a guy who looks like a goddamned Eva Unit or something.

Well global warming is an intimidating issue especially when we realize it could be caused by Shakespearean drama, but it's always a little easier to deal with when we realize that if metatron megatron is out there, so is optimus, and optimus prime is a friend of man and he turns into an ape in beast wars even though that's optimus minor and he would never hurt the environment not even with farting.

I'll read the entire topic in time, but...

Sara, I think I love you. :) That was absolutely amazing and I needed that.
