Title: Human Nature
Description: Philosophy-ness

Since Grondy's doing a column from the grave, I might as well start a discussion here. Anyway, feel free to add your 2 cents (and give it to me, then I'll be 2 cents less poor).
So. I was in Government class (the teacher of which is probably the most awesomest Government teacher of all you people) and he started a discussion about human nature (don't ask why, he's wierd and goes off on tangents like that). He brought up this point and I started thinking to myself about how humans really behave. I've come to the conclusion that humans are basically good in nature (I'll explain why later for the sake of continuing the discussion). He noted that my idea was coincidentally extremely similar to the philosophy of a guy named Locke (bonus points to whoever knows/remembers who this is). What are all of your opinions on this?

I believe mans true nature is probably bad they can choose whatever they want but you cant tell me you all dont here that voice saying to do whats best for you and forget about the others. A lot of it depends on the person though.

the true nature of humans isn't bad or good, its greed, wealth power knowladge, if you take a close look every single war or problem is from one of those sources. so humans arn't bad or good no, we're greedy.

what is bad??? what is good???? it is all in your interpretation of those words......
Durendal - September 18, 2004 04:46 AM (GMT)

Locke is the last name of an English philosopher. He was the one we got the part of the Dec. of Independance "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" but his version was Property, not Pursuit of Happiness
That or he's the guy on the Oatmeal box

my opinion is that human nature is both good and evil. its just that different people decide to act on different parts of our nature.

human nature....we all have good inside....(we all have aposible thumbs to)...anyway all humans can make choices and we often make wrong choices and become mixed up and crazy...human nature is a very hard thing to discribe because it branches off into other topics.
but really i have to agree it is good and evil.

As I said, I believe human nature in itself is pure and good but there are so many things that can corrupt it. The very act of thinking is enough to corrupt the human mind and cause emotions like greed, jealosy (sp?) and hate. I think civilized government is the cause (in part) of why we have corrupt polititians and deranged murderers. All things besides those dealing with survival cause humanity's corruptness.
My rant is over. :)
