Title: What is SPAM?

Esgalglinion - November 2, 2004 09:55 AM (GMT)
Here,I'm going to give you a brief description was spam actually are,for you sad people who doesn't know what it is.

SPAM isn't just that you make a totally random post in wrong topic, like Taoma have many times done. It's not just where you say offtopic.Well, for you people not understanding this type pf spam,I'll make some examples:"Hey dude!Watsup!"
Wrong place at the wrong time.Get an IM.
"My feet stinks in a strange odor."Just plain wrong to make a random post.

That's two examples.(No duh.)

SPAM is also when making posts without value.Example:
Member 1 is a decides to make a topic where people can discuss things.Later, however, people are yelling out insults to eachother instead of getting to a point.Member 1 decides that it should be closed, and statefies that it should be closed in the topic. That is a bit minor fault, you can send a pm to a mod to close it,but it's no major fault here,so ignore that. However, several other people says stuff like "Agreed, close this topic." "I think Member 1 has a point." "Let's do as Member 1 says.".That is mayor spam,as the point has been made clear once, and shouldn't get repeated.Just close the damn topic,I'd say,not to keep saying stuff that isn't even needed.

The next type is very common here. It's the one word posts,or very short posts.
Example of posts I've met:"Lol" "WHAAAAT?" "Yup." "Huh?"

If you're going to make the question type of word,at least give an explanation to your question.

Sometimes, posters try to 'disguise' this type of spam by quoting posts.Example:

QUOTE
I heard the new guy here is a hacker...

WHAAT?!

That way,it looks like the post was bigger, and made more sense because of that. It's an illusion to the eye.

And lastly,of what I can think of,we have double posts.Double posting is okay if you're a non-mod and double posting in an old topic to 'bumb' it.Mods can bump posts,so they don't have to make a post for a topic to show up.But if you can edit your post,DO IT!The button looks like this user posted imageis positioned in the corner of your post, you can't miss it.

That's a few examples. If you can give more it's appreciated.

After this topic is posted, for every offence the offender will get one point of warning, based on the new warning system. If a mod lowers the rating,at least let me know before you do it.Note that if you spa, in Random Insanity,no warning is given.

Other than that, have a nice day.

Can you spam your own stats page?

Esgalglinion - November 5, 2004 06:31 AM (GMT)
What I think you can only spam when you don't get post counts.

Fifth Fang - November 7, 2004 03:36 AM (GMT)
how about the side stats in a sig that takes a heck load more space than the actual post?

I was wondering about that...but the sidebar seems to be the most efficient way to do it.

Esgalglinion - November 12, 2004 06:29 AM (GMT)
It's better to let the stats be in the side bar as if you take under the post the space taken will be even bigger. If you don't want to take space, put the stats in your profile. It's not that big of a problem in my eyes though.

Another option is to not use your signature - if you have stats in the sidebar and it's going to make the post look 'bad', then just un-check the box [] Enable Signature when you go to post the message.

Like what I just did for this post: No sidebar, no sig.

Esgalglinion - November 22, 2004 06:21 PM (GMT)
We talked about that in the mod forum.

Just so you know,I ain't running around with an iron bar to hunt you down if you spam. One word posts is to be neutralized by dechecking the Enable signature button.
