Title: vegative state
Description: should it exist?
Míxtil_<3_fish! - February 2, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
veggative state is when a person is saved from death by being hoooked up to a macine. thay are not concious, essentially dead, but there heart and llungs are functioning. should it be allowed?

As a punishment: no
To save somebody's life: yes, unless there is nothing that can be done to cure them
Míxtil_<3_fish! - February 2, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
but essetially theyre dead. they can do nothing. in the u.k theres been somone in this state for 16 years! 16 years of death! its not like sleap, then your brain is alive, here your brain is not!

Isn't that just cryogenics without the cryo?
Axem Titanium - February 2, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
It costs more to keep the guy hooked up to the machine too.

Yeah if there going to die, why bother to keep them alive? There's nothing left for them to do!
Durendal - February 3, 2005 02:53 AM (GMT)
wouldn't you want to be kept alive? if i was dying from cancer i'd want to be alive till they found a cure, giving up like that is no better then suicide which i dispise and is a sin of the Christian and Jewish God.

Humans hit a wall at 120 years of age, even with the best cell drugs available (ALCAR).
About 105 years to find a cure for cancer if you had cancer right now, less if you catch it when you're older. Not much time, for such a subject to research.

I think it would be up to them (if they know beforehand) or their family. If they would like to keep him alive in hopes of finding a cure to whatever disease the person is ill with, fine, but they should pay for it.

heres my opnion
yes you may keep them alive but why delay the inevtable, your body still ages, you could still get sick, and i whould sure as hell not whont to be alive but dead at the same time, If it is my time to die then it is my time to die, thats the way i look at it

But there's a difference between giving up if you're conscious and giving up if you're a vegetable. If you're a vegetable, it's someone else giving up on you and just letting you die since you're going to anyway.
Also, if you really want to be kept alive, then you should get cryogenically frozen instead since it's much easier and cost efficient.

buuuuut it still costs a bomb and know one knows how to de-frost people saftly... risky but better

I concur with all the previous statements except Durendrals. It's not suicide, i mean is suddenly having a heart attack and dieing(sp?) suicide? Keeping a dead person "alive" is a total waist, w/out the reason that they are like, say, still carrying a baby and you are waiting for it to be delivered. (just a scenario...)
Durendal - February 12, 2005 12:43 AM (GMT)
keeping a person is not a waste! Walt Disney is still alive and he shoulda died a looooooong time ago, and if you were dying or a vegetable i think you'd thank the person who kept you alive if you recovered.

I know if I died I would no doubtedly want to be kept alive.
I strongly believe that any life is better than death.
Durendal - February 12, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
not if its like a knife through the heart and they froze u on time or something like that.
Karn - February 12, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
I would rather have that than be dead. Yes I'm an extremist.
Killing Edge - February 13, 2005 02:31 PM (GMT)
I'd rather just pass on and go to a better place. I mean, what's the point of keeping somebody alive if there's nothing left to live for?
