Karn - February 12, 2005 10:41 AM (GMT)
Reality:The quality or state of being actual or true, existing.

You can tell you exist because you are made up of matter.

'Ivan - February 12, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
I think, therefore I am.

Fenix - February 12, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)

Correction: Ego igitur sum cognito.

That's in proper latin.

pie is the answer to all questions :ihavepie: :ihavepie: :ihavepie: :ihavepie: :ihavepie:

grondring - February 12, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
Why do we exist? Because we were born. Why are we here? Because we walked here. How do you define reality? By looking it up in the dictionary. How can you prove you are real? Punch yourself in the nose.

And no, I'm not just being cynical; there's a point to all that.

SuperDragonSlayer - February 12, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
To Grondy-
Maybe you IMAGINED being born and it did not really happed
Maybe you IMAGINED walking here and it did not really happed
Maybe the dictionary is a FIGMENT OF YOUR IMAGINATION
Hmmmmmmmmm

Cloudane Firestrike - February 12, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
is it only me, or is that from vivi form FF9 ("how do we prove that we exist, maybe we dont exist...")

Esgalglinion - February 12, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
I dunno...I sometimes fear that my life is another people's dream, and when they wake up,I'll disappear.

Seriously though,I believe that if you think you exist, then you do.There's not much to it anyways.

Ah. You hit the nail on the head exactly in that one word - maybe.

Here's a little anecdote. Not all scientists are atheists, but when discussing how life first came about on Earth the hypothesis of God's involvement is generally disregarded. Why? Because it cannot be proven. You can't say, "Experiment 1 with God" versus "Experiment 2 without God".

Likewise, we can guess and theorize all we want, but we cannot prove anything. To quote the catch phrase of Waiting for Godot, "Nothing to be done". And truly there is nothing to be done, so instead of wasting time trying anyway, why not simply accept our existence and go about living life as normal?

Killing Edge - February 13, 2005 02:11 AM (GMT)
Sometimes I wonder if I had just been brought into reality directly in the present, and my whole previous life is just a memory. Every millisecond the previous millisecond might not have really happened. It's really weird.

This all started with an episode of DBZ when I was little.

grondring - February 13, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
More proof that DBZ rots your brain. ^_^

Durendal - February 13, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
DBZ and DBGT rot your brain, DB teaches you good stuff though, like perserverence, DBZ and GT teach you to blow stuff up with mysterious energy from your body.

Killing Edge - February 13, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
Actually, it wasn't completely because of DBZ.

Allow me to explain. Once I saw an episode, and didn't see it again for years because of various things. I tried to remember what had happened, but when I finally saw it again it was totally different from what I had remembered. That was when I started to doubt my memory, and from that this... paranoia that I mentioned grew.

Lord Of The End Times - February 14, 2005 04:25 AM (GMT)
you need to be real to immagine, even if people around you aren't real you yourself have to be to think of them in the first place. if the people around you are not real and are a figment of your immagination they probaly live in another dimension. if you thought up the world they you can change it and why would things happen that you don't know about. maybe this world is like the matrix. but either way, if you people think this world is not real to you, it's still real enough for me. and if you're not real then who cares what you think.

some people get smarter in LUE

you should stop watching "the matrix" movies ....

Fenix - February 14, 2005 12:45 PM (GMT)
haha i figured out the question that makes you think bwhahahahahaha

and you find one answer to a question and there is more possblitys

Axem Titanium - February 15, 2005 10:20 PM (GMT)
This point was also brought up by Barry the Chopper in the FMA manga. Of course, his definition of existance was killing people ("I kill, therefore I am." or something like that).

i don't watch the matrix anymore

anyway. has your question been answered?

Fenix - February 15, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
dude this question is like un answerable if you think about it

grondring - February 18, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
"Find your own answer" is how it works.

Severian - March 20, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
Not to be evil...but I've heard this question before. My answer is invariable:

If you don't believe you exist...you don't actually matter. Mind if I kill you and take all your money?

Even if you don't believe you exist, or your surrounding world is real, you should live for whatever you believe in. Existence is a word you might not find to be well defined-the truth is, it's as irrelevant as if god exists (unless god is planning on Armageddon tomorrow). Even if it was somehow proven to me that the Christian Bible was the absolute truth, it wouldn't matter-I'd live my life the way I believe it should be lived. In much the same way, this quesiton is meaningless. If you don't "exist", if the people around you don't "exist"....what exactly does that change about your life?

Axem Titanium - March 21, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
Existence is what you percieve it to be. Go Schrodinger.

Severian - March 21, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
Schroedinger is awesome, but his stuff gets really confusing sometimes. The Schroedinger's Cat Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson was hilarious though.

Axem Titanium - March 21, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
The universe is pretty confusing in itself.

I should work on my essay... rough draft due on Tuesday... yeah... I'll do that.

The Entertainer - March 21, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
This reminds me of what's always bothered me... You know like on the Men in Black people have those tazer thingies that make you forget everything... Well, if that actually happened how the hell would you know? I mean, you'll have live through the experience right, so you have to see it sometime, but how can you know you've ever lived through that experience, if it's been erased from your memories?? :ph43r:

About existing... well if I don't exist... then I'm really having fun with the illusion :D

Míxtil_<3_fish! - March 21, 2005 06:49 PM (GMT)
if you don't belive you exist, you don't exist in your world.

I think, therefore I am.

This was part of a twist from a game that i won't say incase any of you play it and don't want it to be spoiled. the characters find out that they are just a creation, and they live inside a video game, so they end up killing their creator by going into the real world. Once the creator was killed he deleted the entire game, but because the game was so advanced, the characters actually developed minds. Although their world was destroyed, they were able to re-create the world and live on...... so.... yeh.
Oh and if you guessed what game I was talking about, i'm sorry if I ruined the storyline for you.....

Míxtil_<3_fish! - April 1, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
i think, therefor i am is oolllllllllld, seriously. pre-ainchient greek. not videogame.

Axem Titanium - April 2, 2005 01:01 AM (GMT)
I think it was Plato or Aristotle that first said it. It was probably just used for that videogame as a plot device.

Míxtil_<3_fish! - April 2, 2005 09:40 AM (GMT)
like ygdrasssil actually being the tree that held the world together in norse mythology?

vashies - April 16, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
dik that answer but i think i know the meaning of life

Severian - April 17, 2005 07:53 AM (GMT)
The meaning of life is for you to fork over all your cash to me, do so now.
