Could you provide a synopsis?

Its about an athiest astronomer who, one day, receives a message from "aliens". Its a mathematical formula, and when it is desiphered, it gives instructions that supposedly sends you to an alien world. Only one person can go however. The girl wants to go, but the UN does not want Earth to be represented by an athiest. The plan is proceeded with another astronamer, but religious leaders make things a bit harder.

Its very touching if you can understand it, and has made me a believer in God. It is also where I got my quote of the week from.
