Happy Earth Day~!~!! ^_^
Yup. And, my dad brought up this idea for "killing all the ugly trees in my yard" today. -_-
I got pretty upset, so, maybe he'll keep them there ^_^

y'know, if your dad kills the trees, hes shortening the life of humanity. at current rates, wev'e only got about 325 years of oxygen left.
i know, i'm a tree hugger ^_^

Erm, I'm not so sure it's "years left" as oxygen is a renewable energy resource, and trees only provide apporximately 30% of the Earth's oxygen anyway-which is important, but I believe humanity could survive without it.
However, there is another more important use for trees-runoff prevention and erosion prevention. Basically, trees help prevent pollution spreading into the water, which is good. This is why it's so important to preserve our wetlands, which have taken heavy damage as a result of human expansion.

My dad has already did that last year..sort of. now we have five instead of eight trees in our back yard.

*uses hippy powers to beat cartman to a pulp*
yeah! far out!
seriously, it is a big problem.

Yes indeedy. I spent some time a summer ago working with a marine biologist who's colleague had worked to limit wetland destruction and stop runoff pollution. As for us, we worked at a nearby beach collecting samples and stuff. Was pretty cool.

How old are you and are you a genius? You seemed well informed in everything we talk about...or seem to be!

There are a few things:
-Sometimes I'll research some of the stuff we talk about, come up with some conclusions on my own. Also, I've talked and discussed a lot of this stuff in school-for instance, the fossil fuel stuff is something I discussed in my 8th grade science class. Me and another guy argued for petroleum-we did the best of the fossil fuels, but I think solar won. The people who did nuclear energy did the best in actuality-despite a seriously damaging energy source, they argued exceedingly well and had really done their research as well.
-I'm a nerd, I think about lots of stuff a lot.
-I've spent a total of three summers doing science related activites. The first was in 5th grade with a program sponsored by John's Hopkins called CTY, where you go to a university and get taught by university and high school teachers. I did Bay Ecology by the Chesapeake Bay the first year, and then a few years later (7th grade I believe) I did a biotechnology course. More recently-summer of 9th grade-I did a program at the high school where we go to our local university over the summer and work with proffessors. The University, MSU, is not very prestigous, but I worked with three other kids under a really cool marine biologist who worked at Queen's College (I think) but went to work under a biologist at the university. We went to a nearby beach area to research invertebrate life in the area. I'm going back this summer, and I'm thinking about working with him again as more of an assistant than a lab aide.
-I read a hell of a lot, in tons of different fields, and have been playing video games since I was three, so I'm well qualified in both "fields".
-Finally, some of my information is relayed through my brother, a college softamore who's at Oberlin Ohio. We're close. My parents, both immigration judges, provide much information on a little explored job field (immigration law), but I usually don't use that knowledge online.
-Oh, and Maddox has made me smarter, and a little more funny.
I'm 16. I'm not a genius, I just have way too much time. Pretty much the only things I do outside of school are a swim team, hebrew school (I do assistant teaching too, but also am in the "Hebrew High school), and babysitting on-and-off.

So.... where does the other 70% come from?

That explains it.
You spend your time thinking about this kind of stuff and i spend my time thinking about moral values, ethics, and my RP'ing. XD

I think he means the other 70% of oxygen.

mixty, the trees dying is not the end of the world...if all the other plants die, then we're screwed, but doncha think humans are smart enough to come up with their own form of securing oxygen?

Actually, I take the fact back. I think it's probable that the ocean organisms do supply large amounts of oxygen, but probably mainly to ocean organisms. I know that simple organisms living in the ocean (cyanobacteria, generally considered to be a kind of algae) produce oxygen during photosynthesis like plants do, but whether that oxygen reaches us, I don't know.
Anyway, Trace, I spend plenty of time on moral values and ethics, though I don't RP much. I've played Dungeons and Dragons once or twice, but other than that I have little experience with serious RPing.
EDIT: Sadly, there isn't much oppurtunity for me to except via the internet, and I'm far too lazy despite a fair amount of interest in it on my part.
