Title: Holy crap.

QUOTE (The Washington Post)
A series of coordinated rush-hour explosions blasted the transportation system across an arc of central London Thursday, injuring at least 700 people and killing more than 37 with the numbers expected to rise.

The explosives detonated on at least three trains moving through London's vast subway system and on a double-decker bus, which had its roof torn off by the blast.

I'm guessing you've all heard about this? What do you think? I'd like especially to hear from the British among us, who, by the way, I hope are all okay...

SpiralStatic - July 7, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I heard about it. Analysts are saying that the most probable cause of this is the fact that London will host the 2012 olympics. Scary. Al-Qaeda's rumored to be behind this.

Severian - July 7, 2005 11:24 PM (GMT)
It's also been suggested that the attacks are a response to the G8 (Group of Eight) conferences.

Regardless of the motive for the attack, we have some things to keep in mind:
-That we haven't done as much as some people think to hamper terrorism. Sure, we seriously damaged Al Qaeda's operations and killed many of their men, but we didn't even succeed in breaking that particular well funded, organized group. Even if they weren't behind it, there are plenty of other terrorist groups, some Muslim extremists and some not.

-That the US, and world, response is not what would be desired. To be putting ourselves on high alert after an attack is undesirable. Presumably, England didn't know a thing about this attack. If we can only be shocked into caution after blood is shed, the terrorists can just wait until later to strike again. We shouldn't be going on higher alert levels after an attack occurs. Instead, we should already be using every step possible to discover and counter terrorism efforts. Why does it take another attack for us to go onto a higher level of counterterrorism action, when we've already seen an event like September 11th occur.

That would pretty much impossible. It wasn't sure that London would host the Olympics until the day before the attack. No one can co-ordinate such planned attack on a day.

Err...well,yes,of course,it's difficult to know when these things happen, but England has known for quite a while that it is a possibly that an attack can come. Some even say that the question was "when",not "if".

My mom has a cousin in London, and we yet know if she's alright.

Great point. I wish they felt that way in the government but sadly their motivation is the deaths of others.

Well, it seems GB will be kicking up security now as well. Which means thier immigration will drop like ours. I heard somewhere the US's toursim dropped 15% since 911 just because people feel hasseled by all the trouble they have to go through to get in.

Severian - July 8, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
I just think it's more that people don't get jumpstarted easily without a reason. If there's been a lot of action, we assume that we've gotten results. But while I'm sure we've limited terrorist activity somewhat - The Cell convinced me of this pretty well - there's still plenty of room to hit us again.

here ya go gorndy, somone who lives in london itself.

well, the attacks where bloody, and the first suicide attacks on british soil EVER, bet there are other things.

legoroy2 - July 16, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
You should read what Weebl said about this. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom-fighter.

First off: Crap can not be holy, it is anything but.

Second off: Yeah I knew, good thing I live in Flint, MI. Which basically means I have to worry more about gun shots than exploding trains.

Durendal - July 19, 2005 08:16 PM (GMT)
First off: Shut up Godboy, no one cares wether or not you think crap can be holy.
Second off: There is no second off.

Severian - July 20, 2005 02:11 AM (GMT)
Mixtil, actually terrorist attacks aren't the only thing that can shut down cities. They've actually made strikes for bus and train workers in NYC illegal, because such a thing can literally shut down the city. There was a humongous, very important controversy over that...which was, as most things are, brushed over in public chatter, though at least covered by the media.

If anyone wants a technical look at the correlation between holy and crap...well isn't crap really natural, and neutral?

Maybe you could consider vomit, the sign of sickness and unwellness, as unholy, as it's a sign to yourself that something is wrong with you.

Míxtil_<3_fish! - July 20, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
like the time the fire service where on strike mb.

Listen: Don't call him Godboy. You're saying all he talks about is God, but you're wrong. So shutup.

These bombs are called by assholes who just are jealous because Britian has the most powerful country as its ally.

Kaden - July 22, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
Yep, very powerful.... leads to very jealous.
