Title: Christmas

Longinus - August 20, 2005 08:03 PM (GMT)
I love this fact! Christmas started out as a pgan holiday, as jesus Christ was born around May or June, and Christmas was adopted by Christians when they took over the pagans and converted them. So, congrats to all you Christians on celebrating a pagan holiday that has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ!

Durendal - August 20, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
Old news, thats why I never go to church on christmas. Oh and Jesus was actually born July 21st. Don't quote me on that but I read somewhere that July 21st is the closest they can get to his actual birthday.

Longinus - August 20, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
I know it's old news, I've known for about two years now, but I got bored and decided i'd get something going....so July 21st, huh?

vashies - August 20, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
duurrr anywon hoo gets bored ezaly knowz that... even me!! i know it has nothing to do with jesus but WHY do people say it does??there just strange

EDIT: there ray u hapy now?

Ray - August 20, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
Vashies, PLEASE make your posts... well, you know. Make sense.

LoZfan03 - August 20, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
they say it has to do with Jesus because christians (at least the ones I know and have heard of) use it as a day to celebrate his birth more than a excuse to get presents

Longinus - August 20, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Yes, but if they celebrate his birth they should do it on his birthday! Isn't that often when we do ours?

LoZfan03 - August 21, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
do you know the exact date? if you do, I'll celebrate then.

it's a tradition anyway, there isn't a law saying you have to celebrate the birth of Christ on any particular day.

Longinus - August 21, 2005 01:11 AM (GMT)
I know, but the Christians claim it is about the nirth of Christ, and I was just stating that..I don't care what you believe...just as long as you believe it.

Severian - August 21, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
It is true that the date of birth of christ is not decided as far as I know, since there are a variety of dates in which the holiday is celebrated. It's common for religions to adopt customs of older ones.

Of course, while I don't believe in Christianity, this doesn't really disprove Christianity in any way. The appearance of lightly altered names of older religions being mocked as devils in Christianity is significant in my opinion, at least, but this is just saying that "hey, guess what, there are similarities between Christianity and other religions". Hell, Judaism even has a holiday that is purely a harvest festival (sukkot).

EDIT-I believe santa is a pagan tradition as well.

vashies - August 21, 2005 02:36 AM (GMT)
i thought santa was an middle east bethlaham stuff thing, like, a UBER POOR family that this one dood liked, he put stuff in there sox while they were drying on a line, prity soon, he was like UBER RITCHand he did it to everyone, and it spread, as for reindeer and fatness and chimnys i have NO clue where that came from

Longinus - August 21, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
That came from a company that wanted to make money off of a religious hoilday, so they came up with the whole santa thing...

vashies - August 21, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
lol so all little kids are actually thinking ov is a big fat markiting trick awsome

Longinus - August 21, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
Yep, it's all the media's fault...little children believe in the thing parents teach their children not to believe in...lies!

vashies - August 21, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
TIZ LIES!!! ALL LIES

LoZfan03 - August 21, 2005 06:10 PM (GMT)
want to explain a little more on that Mr. Bucket? since (according to the Bible) Christianity is the first religon, I don't see how there would be older ones <_<

Míxtil_<3_fish! - August 21, 2005 06:29 PM (GMT)
don't forget christianity is just a splinter sect of judaism.

LoZfan03 - August 22, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
wanna define 'spinter sect' for me?

Míxtil_<3_fish! - August 22, 2005 06:13 PM (GMT)
splinter sect. a sect is a religion, or spinter group of a religion. a splinter sect, therefore, is a religion that breaks away from a greater religion.

LoZfan03 - August 22, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
ok thanks

I'm not familiar with judaism myself, so I can't really argue about that

Sorry, but that's like the most ludicrous thing I've ever heard. I've never heard that from the bible, but that's the most insulting bullshit I've ever heard from a religion. Christianity is from 0 AD, there were many religions preceding it.

EDIT-You know the old testament? That is the Jewish bible.

Also, if you've ever read greek or roman mythology, that's older than Christianity.

I believe that the oldest specific relgion we know of is from Sumeria. The epic Gilgamesh is an example of the culture at the time. That preceeds Christianity by so long it isn't even funny you'd say that.

If the bible actually says that Christianity is the oldest religion, stop reading it because that's BS. Christianity is probably the newest widespread religion besides Islam.

Judaism is what a lot of Jews believe in... They believed a Messiah would/will come and be their Deliver and they also follow the laws of Moses.
That is one of the main points anyway... There are a lot of other faucets to it.

Well, technically, we (I'm including myself, even if I don't really believe it) don't follow the laws of Moses, we follow the laws passed down to moses.

But close enough anyway. Judaism is probably the oldest surviving religion rooted in the middle east, but I can't confirm that.

GamerGirl90 - August 23, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
I hope I don't insult any of you by saying this, but...

I couldn't care less what religion Christmas came from, so long as I get lots of presents. ^_^

LoZfan03 - August 23, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
I was talking about the Bible and any religon that followed it, not just Christianity. I realize that Christianity as it is today is not the oldest form.

Míxtil_<3_fish! - August 24, 2005 08:53 AM (GMT)
does anyone know about the great schism? i just want to learn about it.
