one of my breeding females eyes looks like it is getting ready to pop out. she still eats and very active. it looks all white and looks like it is going to pop out. i don't see how she can see out of that eye anymore. i put salt and melafix and put temp up. any advise folks??
jewel - April 13, 2004 08:42 AM (GMT)
tt's internal bacteria isnt it?
I think interpret no. 7 wld do the trick...need to check tho....
dinosor - April 13, 2004 12:43 PM (GMT)
white ?? erm.. sounds like cloudy eye too..
y don get pimafix.. use it with melafix.. to me , erm. they are like secondary medicine..
not 7 , is interpet no.9 .. hehe..
infinite - April 13, 2004 06:18 PM (GMT)
so has anyone successfully cured this? I really can't see how this fish will ever be cured. will the eye just shrink and become normal again. i looks like a big bubble around the whole eye getting ready to pop (blister like). need to go get pimafix.
dinosor - April 14, 2004 03:18 AM (GMT)
erm.. if it is drospy , could be a fatal case.. for other small fishes..
dunno about flowerhorn if they can cure successfully..
maybe expert may advise ..

hi infinite!!
I've cured my betta of pop eyes using a mixture of Melafix, BeFuran and salt.
U might want to give Pimafix a try too, since it can be used for internal bacteria infection.
Try it out for a week, using Melafix + Pimafix + salt.
if she doesn't recover, then try using BeFuran.
Meanwhile, maintain water quality, IMO, temp need not be raised. Ard 28deg will do fine for the fish :)
good luck!!

thank you all for your help. using melafix and salt for now. everything about her looks good except for her eye. she eats and still chases others away from her breeding area. will keep you guys posted. i'm very tempted to take her out and pop her bubble eye (jk).
dinosor - April 14, 2004 07:53 AM (GMT)
all right.. keep us updated.. :laugh2:
King Almond - April 15, 2004 01:04 AM (GMT)
Hi there,
Good that immediate action was taken.Coz this pop/ cloudy eye if not treated with immediate effect, may cause the fish to go blind.U can try doing a 2 day 15-20% water change to help speed up the healing process.
dinosor - April 15, 2004 08:27 AM (GMT)
according to satuors, he told me if the fish is still eating and swimming active.. the fish is likely to comsume too much protein food.. have to let saturos to continue this .. hehe..
fishyman - April 16, 2004 07:29 AM (GMT)
How is the fish doing now??? :D
infinite - April 16, 2004 03:15 PM (GMT)
she's doing good. i have her in the 125 gal with the other fishes. still eats and defend her breeding area with help from the male. the other fishes seem to be ok. you would not think anything is wrong her her if not her her eye. i put salt in a couple days ago and i put melafix and change 20% water in every other day. her bubble eye is still there. nothing has changed about that. is it suppose to pop or what? there has been no improvement or gotten worse for that matter.
PearlJam - April 17, 2004 03:10 AM (GMT)
pop eye could also be due to poor water condition. u shd try just changing water daily around 10%, preferably aged water if u have. add salt and melafix if u want. try not to put any internal bacteria med unless it is confirmed as such cos internal bacteria infection will have other symptoms. if it is just pop eye alone, usu it is due to poor water condition. by keeping water clean, will solve the problem. (i.e. low ammonia level). alternatively can try pp bombing. if u wanna try this, just give me a call at 96908869. i can pass some to u FOC. wishing ur fish has a speedy recovery.
dinosor - April 17, 2004 04:02 AM (GMT)
wah pj so gd ar.. i knoe y sia.. coz going to be father again soon.. haha.. gong xi gong xi..
hey infinite , are u a singaporean? erm.. bubble eye? no pics ar?
infinite - April 17, 2004 07:56 AM (GMT)
no, i am from san francisco. i don't want to get started with the pics stuff again. i had a lot of problems trying before. fish is still active but still have bubble eye. i really doubt the she can see out of it.
dinosor - April 17, 2004 08:17 AM (GMT)
maybe u can go the nearby lfs to ask .. coz melafix may take a long time to recover.
bubble eye meaning the eye now have bubble? or cloudy? or pop
infinite - April 17, 2004 04:18 PM (GMT)
it's cloudy and swollen like. it's a big round big bubble white eye. i pretty much can't see the actual eye anymore.
dinosor - April 18, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
erm.. i do not know does your nearby lfs have oceanfree product?
maybe u should get some medicine specially for cloudy eye..
PearlJam - April 19, 2004 05:06 AM (GMT)
infinite,
first and foremost, test ur water parameters.if it is within the acceptable range, then i would suggest that u do a pp bombing. it will not harm ur fish as long as u observe and do not overdose. done it many times and it really works wonders. just ask around any pharmacy or fish shop for pp. they shd have the crystals.
infinite - April 20, 2004 05:53 AM (GMT)
what do you mean "pp bombing"????
PearlJam - April 20, 2004 02:35 PM (GMT)
pp bombing is potassium permanganate bombing
if u would like more info, send me your email and i will provide u with more info cos i dont know how to attach the file here.

Saturos - April 23, 2004 02:44 AM (GMT)
hi.
plz kepe us updated on ur fish condition forall to learn. thanks
my discus also had this problem b4,i didnt give it gd treatment then, so i think its now blind in one eye, but its still healthy.
that is all.
infinite - April 25, 2004 12:55 AM (GMT)
it doesn't look good. i didn't give it the pp bombing. if anything, it looks too late. i've taken her out and have her in a 10 gallon. just using melafix, pimafix, and salt. it spread from her eyes to her lips. lips are swollen and white. pieces of her upper lip have fallen off. what's worse is that she is not eating anymore. i think it's time for me to put her out of her misery, what you guys think????
dinosor - April 25, 2004 06:54 AM (GMT)
o no~~ u should have taken it out earlier..
just add in the medicine .. hope it will recover..
B@@n - April 27, 2004 02:24 AM (GMT)
sad to hear tat, it is always a Very Difficult
decision to made when ones trying to put
his/her fish to Rest. dont noe whether it
good or bad ??? :(
King Almond - April 27, 2004 07:36 AM (GMT)
For all u know, he wants to fight , but needs help from the master. Why not try the PP stuff? I think it is impt to trace the link how it happened to the fish, so that it could be prevented.
infinite - April 29, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)

fishyman - May 31, 2004 06:20 AM (GMT)
Hi Infinite!
Maybe you can try some anti-biotics the next time such things happen.
Popping eye is usually due to internal bacteria, and frankly, the best way to cure it is by using antibiotics.
dinosor - May 31, 2004 06:27 AM (GMT)
antibiotics so effective?
fishyman - May 31, 2004 06:35 AM (GMT)
Yep!
Fastest and most effective way to kill the bacteria.
But do not abuse it, else u might find anti-biotics resistant strains of bacteria next time.

fishyman - May 31, 2004 07:13 AM (GMT)
Jurassic brand, or tyrannosaurus brand is quite good....
alternatively, try Seachem, Mardel. You can find a lot if u stay in the states.
Here in singapore, u need to get the medication from a doctor or a vet..
dinosor - May 31, 2004 08:18 AM (GMT)
those for human consumtion can also?
fishyman - May 31, 2004 08:19 AM (GMT)
yah.
many of the antibiotics for humans, can be used for fishes.
dinosor - May 31, 2004 08:28 AM (GMT)
break into pieces and stir in warm water to let it dissolve?
fishyman - May 31, 2004 08:35 AM (GMT)
U can do that.
Or just take out your fish and force it down his mouth!! :stab:
dinosor - May 31, 2004 08:36 AM (GMT)
serious la..haha.. aiyoo..
so what brand are avaliable in lfs?
