Title: same disease
Description: same disease

infinite - May 4, 2004 05:35 PM (GMT)
it appears that another one of my lh has the same disease as my other that recently died. i've taken it out and put it in tha quarantine tank (treating it with melafix, pimafix, and salt). now i'm worried about my entire stock in that same tank (including 4 king kong parrots and 5 other lh's). how should i handle this crisis? should I remove all my fishes and break down the tank? what do you guys suggest?

Hi,
Since a case no.2 has propped up, it is good that you have taken the sick fish out.If you have the space and tanks, it may not ba a bad idea to separate them in the meanwhile.
If not, a 30-40% change is much needed. And u can add in med to combat the external/internal parasites in the tank.

The Mela/Pimafixes are good for mild bacteria causes and a good 'support' to other med.U can try other med like Interpret together with the Pimafix.Do a 15% water change everyday.Water condition taken care, with med and the fish shld be on its way to recovery. OR ..simply, do a salt bath. This can do the trick most of the times for popeyes/eyes dieseases.

What Almondeye said is correct.

I have some things to add. Since it's popping eyes, and likely to be internal bacteria infection, u can try using some anti-biotics.

Baktopur from Sera is a gd medication. Try that. Or u can use Befuran. Do ur LFS sell these??

One more thing, since it is a second case, it shows that there might be something wrong with what you are doing to your fishes.

what do you feed them? water changing routine, water parameters???

hope he recovers soon! :)

infinite - May 5, 2004 03:13 AM (GMT)
i do about a 20% water change once a week, feed them alife pellet food twice a day. i don't however have extra tanks to quarantine my entire stock. i think i just do a 50% change and take apart my 2 fluvals and clean them out. and maybe feed them only once a day. also maybe take my water in to my lfs amd have them test my water.

dinosor - May 5, 2004 09:08 AM (GMT)
maybe u can add the medicine also into the main tank.. then change water for a few days..

B@@n - May 6, 2004 09:27 AM (GMT)
woooo, look like u have some hard days ahead...
will pray for speedy recovery for ur fish...
cheer up.....

dinosor - May 7, 2004 01:11 PM (GMT)
well bro, i had gone through those days too..

infinite - May 8, 2004 12:55 AM (GMT)
the other fish died today. :(:(
yesterday, i did a 50% water change in my big tank and remove all tubes, filters, etc and cleaned them all out. before i did the water change, i took some water to my lfs for testing and they said that my water parimeters are good. don't understand what happened. maybe something is telling me to stop breeding.

dinosor - May 8, 2004 06:55 AM (GMT)
feel sad for you. so now u left with how many flowerhorn?

infinite - May 8, 2004 05:29 PM (GMT)
i have my 4 parrots and 8 lh's and hundreds, thousands maybe (too small to count) fry's. 4 tanks (125, 55, 40, and 25 gallon). my 40 gallon was custom made with 3 solid dividers making actually 4 separate tanks for my frys.

dinosor - May 9, 2004 05:14 AM (GMT)
wow.. there's a lot.. not easy to matain right?

infinite - May 9, 2004 07:51 AM (GMT)
yes, sometimes it's a pain.

dinosor - May 9, 2004 08:47 AM (GMT)
erm. what filteration u using???

infinite - May 9, 2004 05:35 PM (GMT)
using 2 fluval 404 for my 125, aqua clear hang in the back for my 55 and 25 and sponge filters for my 40 gallon (fry tank). thinking of removing my 2 fluvals and replacing it with a wet/dry.

dinosor - May 10, 2004 08:14 AM (GMT)
so how now? all okay?

infinite - May 11, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
everything seems ok. i've introduced another female 2 days ago in my big tank to see if it would breed with my lonely male now and they seem to be ok with each other. a little lip fights the first couple of hrs but now they are ok. he's let her down where the previous breeding area was and it seems as if they "are getting it on:". she's turn dark w/ stripes so hopefully everything goes well.

dinosor - May 11, 2004 08:28 AM (GMT)
do u have enough tank for so many fries?

infinite - May 11, 2004 02:52 PM (GMT)
i have another 40 gallon but I need to go get dividers for it and seal it. I will probably make about 4 homes in the 40 gallon for the frys. I just need to go buy more heaters, sponge filters, and of course a air pump. I have a lfs that buys my frys by the batch. They usually buy it when the frys are about 2 months old. Of course, before I sell them, I usually take out the best 10 of them to keep for my own. And I also give them away to friends and family too. Breeding can sometimes be tiring at times but it's a hobby, right??

dinosor - May 11, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
they do not actually need heater.. so your flowerhorn must be the very nice, thus, your fries also beauty right?
erm.. how do u take out the eggs ? the female are quite firece right?

King Almond - May 11, 2004 03:43 PM (GMT)
glad to hear yr pair is working out fine.Do take regular water tests.Get a test kit which can read amm, nit, ph.When fishes live together, it can be fatal when diesease strike. So must always practise prevention. =)

infinite - May 11, 2004 07:41 PM (GMT)
yeah, i was glad to introduce the male to another female. he was pretty lonely for awhile after his other female died of that disease. the new couple is really defending the area now. what i did was that I put several red slate rocks in awhile ago and that is where she lays her eggs. i would take out the rock maybe 2 days after she lays them. yes, they get extremely pissed when I do. i put a divider in as I take my time taking the rock out and transfer them into a small tank. i usually put the same water in the small tank so it has the same water chemistry. as far as beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder. i guess it's good enough for people to buy at the lfs where i sell it.

dinosor - May 12, 2004 08:55 AM (GMT)
how much do u sold to the lfs? hehe..

infinite - May 13, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
$2.00/ea.....when i first started, i was selling them for $2.50/ea

B@@n - May 13, 2004 09:51 AM (GMT)
Hope to see your Aqaruim being posted here 1 day .. ;)

dinosor - May 13, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
same here

B@@n - May 24, 2004 08:43 AM (GMT)
Wonder hows infinite fishes is getting on now ???

infinite - May 25, 2004 01:29 AM (GMT)
it's funny you ask B@@N. Actually, her egg tube is really sticking out. She will probably lay them within 12 hours. I am kinda upset. They moved my red slate rocks away and gonna lay them on my gravel. So now it's gonna be a little harder for me to get the eggs out. Thank God my gravel are the size of a quarter. I just finished putting up a 5 gallon for the new eggs.

dinosor - May 25, 2004 06:46 AM (GMT)
wow.. going to lay eggs again?? that's good..

DeVoN - May 25, 2004 11:22 AM (GMT)
yEah!!! GOt BaBiEs LiAO!!!! 0.o

infinite - May 27, 2004 12:27 AM (GMT)
she finally laid the eggs and I removed the eggs to my 5 gallon. the couple is funny. after i removed all the eggs, they still defend the area like they are still there. why do they do that? it should take them no more than a couple of minutes to realize nothing is there. it's been 5-6 hours and they are still defending the area.

dinosor - May 27, 2004 05:55 AM (GMT)
maybe they miss their eggs?? y don put the male or the female together wif the fries?

infinite - May 27, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
i don't because the eggs are in a 5 gallon. i think it's too small.
plus i don't want to separate the couple.

King Almond - May 31, 2004 08:49 AM (GMT)
Hw is it coming along now?

fishyman - June 1, 2004 01:05 AM (GMT)
ALl the best to your fish INFINITE!! ;)
