Title: Bettas active
King Almond - February 29, 2004 02:34 PM (GMT)
Hi guys,
i have realised that with extra companions, the betta is more active and tends to show its fins more often.

hi,
i notice alot of misunderstandsings about bettas..
first,
NEVER EVER EVER place betta of diff sexes together, unless you want to breed them, the male will bite the female in attempt to get it to breed with him, so when breeding its impt to place plants for female to hide, and for eggs too. prefably floating plants.
Female bettas can live together harmoniously with each other although occasional biting do occur, but seldom lah.
males and males must never be put together!
for more info on bettas plz post as another subject.
i know a bit more bettas because i was in a team of fish researchers only for bettas, we attempt to breed them and do some testing lah, anyway not my point.
k thks
that is all.
dinosor - March 22, 2004 06:33 AM (GMT)
floating plant how to hide ? u mean hide frm the male is it ?
if u intend to breed them , the male will still bite on the female to make her breed with him"?
Saturos - March 23, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
yes,
its recommended that the tank is big, and filled with plants,
1. So the male can build its nest with the plants, making it more stable(bubble nest)
2. provide hiding place for the female
3. provide food for the young(minimal)
To breed betta is generally easy:
put a male and female together, the male will perform a 'dance' to attract the female, normally the female wont agree, so they will chase lor, biting also, so its impt for plants for female to hide. at this time the male will be building a nest of bubbles blown out by imself
When the female sees that the nest is ready and she likes it, then they will breed, they will coil upon eac other and the eggs will drop and fertilised. Most of the time, the male only will pick the eggs up to be placed in the nest, but at times, the female help too(the female will be a bit paralysed after egg drops).
tis is the time to remove the female.
Then wait for the eggs to hatch lor, then u'll see little mini 'tadpoles' hanging from the nest, dont remove the male yet, because the youngs will always drop from the nest, then the dad will help them back up by placing them in his mouth and spitting them back.
after the youngs free swimming, the male can be removed.
Now is the toughest part, taking care of the young.
there are many ways to take care of the youngs, from food to growing.
read up on the net, its really difficult to explain
thanks
that is all
dinosor - March 23, 2004 08:42 AM (GMT)
NONO!! u must explain , we all cannot read on web.. haha..
u mean the fries eat the plant ?? what type of plant is recommended?
ricko_tee - April 3, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
Basic things on fish rearing.
Anything tt fits into the mouth is food =X
So something tt fit into the beta young mouth is food.
