Title: Hot water
jewel - August 12, 2004 04:17 AM (GMT)
so quiet these days...
anyway, my fish has just started eating yesterday - yippee!
but i notice that the water is warm (i dun use a heater) which is strange. is it due to my underwater pump? but the water near the pump isnt hotter than elsewhere...
dinosor - August 12, 2004 09:39 AM (GMT)
even during the night time?
u using submerge type??
fishyman - August 12, 2004 03:47 PM (GMT)
Hi Jewel!
Why don't you get a cheap thermometer to measure the water temp??
The weather's quite warm recently, and my tank is aound 28.5deg.
If you are using a submerge pump, it is likely that your tank might hit 29-30 deg.
:)

Jewel,
remember about the motor head which i adjusted? try and turn the outlet awqay from the wall of the tank, since yr lh has stablized. Not too sure if it matters, but can give it a try. From yr tank position, i dun think thee would be sunlight. But do rem to kip yr windows open when there isnt anyone at hm. A cooped house wil keep temp soaring too.
jewel - August 13, 2004 09:09 AM (GMT)
ok, thanks, yup, using submmersible pump
the temp quite drastic - or issit just my hands? prob need a thermometer coz sometimes feels quite warm, then colder...rather erratic...
almond, u saw my tank cover - could it be trapping heat?
DeVoN - August 13, 2004 12:11 PM (GMT)
HmMm.. THinK tHe WEather Is RAtHEr WarM baHz...
dinosor - August 13, 2004 12:58 PM (GMT)
those cheap thermometer some ppl said it is not accurate..
get those digital ones better.. but .. haha.. $$$ .. luohan no problem 1 la..haha..
as long as the temp. doesn't go up to >30,31 can liao..
i think changing 50% of the water will do the trick..
King Almond - August 14, 2004 04:11 AM (GMT)
The cover has got holes rite? But remember how much vapour it collected when u lifted the lid? Perhaps u can try remove the lid and see how it goes. The fluctuating temp is no good.
jewel - August 14, 2004 07:03 AM (GMT)
my fish seems ok la, just that when I change water etc, quite shocked by how hot the water was
think just lift up the lid occasionally lor
King Almond - August 14, 2004 06:14 PM (GMT)
dun be alarmed. More often than not, when we are changing water and got into contact with the tank water, the tank water always fel more warm.
fishyman - August 15, 2004 07:12 AM (GMT)
The water will normally feel hot is it's above 29 deg.
My tank feels cold to me when it's at 28deg.
Jewel, ur fish likes to jump? I do not have a cover for my tank, so as to keep the temp down.
Another way to reduce the water temp is to increase surface agitation, you can add an airstone, or an easier way is to aim the pump outlet at the surface of the water. :)
And 1 more thing, those cheap $2 bucks thermometers are good enuff for me at least. Just don;'t get those rectangular flat pieces of sticker-type thermometer. :D
dinosor - August 15, 2004 08:00 AM (GMT)
your tank should be quite cold now..haha..
just rain.. :)
jewel - August 16, 2004 12:59 AM (GMT)
ya, maybe it's just the difference between my hand temp n the water :P that's why after some time, touch the water again, feels colder - sorta feels like sudden temp changes which doesnt make sense la
last time, i had the heater on all the time - so maybe temp more constant - also, hee, i wasn't in charge of changing water - now i am :P and my net was longer back in the past, nv had the chance to touch the waters.... :P :P
the cover's there for the superficial reason that it looks nicer :P but now i 'air' the tank once a while - i thought the air in the tank felt hot when I open it sometimes...sigh...but dun understand why there should be heat to trap ya?
i have a aqua thermometer...not sure to put in or not coz my fish love attacking stuff...now no more heater to attack, may attack the thermometer...see how la, now after being caught in the net, dare not attack the net anymore - hee...
she's quite happy there now, appetite very good and though human traffic heavy, enjoys chasing us wherever we go...
dinosor - August 16, 2004 08:45 AM (GMT)
haha..
so wat type of food u feeding?? still aro stick?
King Almond - August 16, 2004 05:14 PM (GMT)
hi jewel,
glad to hear yr fish is settling down well. Do u still have frequent water change? If so, u can slowly reduce the no. of changes in a week.Once the 4th week passed, u are safe,
jewel - August 17, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
ya, still feeding arosticks...haven;t seen her eat this much since months ago! hmm...maybe can try feeding the bloodworms later on. it's messy la since my fish likes to nibble nibble..
i change water once a week now :P
King Almond - August 17, 2004 03:31 AM (GMT)
Glad to hear it is doing well sis.
Once the fish stop eating, immediately do a water change first. I am worrid abt the final stage. Hopefully my worries are unfounded..i have realised - sometimes, normal guidelines do not apply to all..weird..
dinosor - August 17, 2004 05:09 AM (GMT)
since your fish is stable..
setup 1 more tank!! haha..
jewel - August 17, 2004 05:28 AM (GMT)
ok, i cont to keep watch :)
dino, u dun keep trying to influence me la....
dinosor - August 17, 2004 06:43 AM (GMT)

fishyman - August 17, 2004 09:09 AM (GMT)
Yep Jewel!!
More tanks if you have the time to ;)
Arosticks + bloodworms should be enuff to keep her happy. Mine is mainly on arosticks. He doesn't seem to get sick of the food, everytime i took out the botttle, he gets really excited!!
Maybe you can feed her some(not too much, cos it dirties the water) prawns or fish(deboned) when your mum or you are cooking
