is not a must to add. but is better to add..
1st. i read from somewhere, (can't remember where is it) salt can reduce the stress of flowerhorn
2nd, it can kill parasite in the tank, not all.. but it do helps!

Does the size of the flower horn play in the part of how much salt you put in? I currently have 4 flower horns in a 2.5/1.5/1ft tank. They very from around 2-2.5inches atm. ( know its not good to have so many fhs in same tank)
dinosor - November 2, 2004 01:11 PM (GMT)
no.. depend on how big is your tank .. 2.5feet about 3 spoon or so..
erm.. so many flowerhorn?? wow.. erm.. how often do u change your water?

I change 25-30% every 2-3 days. Also what sorta salt do i need? Special stuff from the fish store? BTW they are only small atm. Im planing on getting another tank like a 4ft and throwing 1 in there. But this is later on when they are much bigger.

yes.. get from auqarium shop..
there is 2 type. 1 is rock type. 1 is powder form.. depends on which type u prefer..
as for me, i have keep fishes other than flowerhorn so i use those powder form. they dissolve more faster than those rock type.. some fish will get burn if they get in touch with the salt. so is better to dissolve.. as for flowerhorn, not sure too.. i just throw in..hehe.. but better to dissolve..
NOT those for cooking..

hi. everyone
im posting a picture on the molds in my tank. can anyone help me out? i change water every other day about 30% of it and still i got molds on my tank. i also put some algae-stop on my tank but its not working.

is it those dirt??
did u try cleaning that area with sponge or cotton?
junax - November 4, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
yup!
i keep on cleaning it every 3days. it easily goes off with a sponge. it is not dirt. it usualy grows at the corner and of the side of the tank. regarding the picture i posted, its that white cotten thing on the glass and on the connection of the water pump.

it's film algae.
you have to clean them off manually.
some algae eaters do clear them off for you, but since it's a Fh tank, tankmates are strongly discouraged :)

Arn't pleco's a good tankmate with FHs?
dinosor - November 5, 2004 02:08 PM (GMT)
not everyone flowerhorn..
some are just too agressive..
u have to keep pleco when the flowerhorn is still small... and the size must be bigger than the flowerhorn..
tt's wat i heard from many ppl..
for me, i bought it when the flowerhorn is about 4 to 5 inch.. it just whack when the pleco move.. and the poor pleco keep hiding.. in the end also die..

Those flim come and go so often:reminding u to clean and scrape the tank often.
Different fish have diff salt tolerance.Tht means, if the salinity of the water is near to the leve lof salt tolerance of the fish, he gets less stressed. That is what they mean by 'salt can de stress the fish'
