H :blah: i, I'm a new flowerhorn breeder.I have two males I think, because the anal fins of them are acute.Am I right about it or in flowerhorns is there a different way of understanding sex.Thankyou in advance for all replys.

U have to see the anal part. If it is a v shape, it is likely 80% to be a male. If it it is round, it is 80% a female.

well, some breeders say that female FH usually does carries a block spot somewhere at its upper dorsal. its not that accurate either but may be relied to most of the time....

how big is yr flowerhorn?
most accurate way is to wait for them to lay eggs.
abt 3inches , the female will lay eggs. but there are still some tat lay in the later stages.

i have amlae and female and the female does have the black markings in her dorsal. venting large fish is a good way to go but you have to remove the fish from the tank to do that. (use a wet towel to hold the fish as your hands are like a burning iron to the fishes colder body.) then follow almonds discription. one thing i have noticed on my FH's and something ive not seen documented anywhere on the net yet is that my female has rounded dosal and anal fins. much like the gouramis do and the males are very pointed. it could just be my fish so im not sure that its a good indicator. of course the hump on the head is also a good indication to a male (if im not mistaken no females get the lump on the head (is that right?)

Generally, it will be easier to tell the sex of the fish when it reaches 4 inches in length. At this size, most female flower horn fish should be able to start laying eggs. The most accurate option to determine the sex of this fish is by looking at the anal pore of the fish. The male fish will have a V-shaped anal pore as compared to the female which has a U-shaped anal pore. Additionally, most female do not have a protruding nuchal hump. The body will tend to look smaller as compared to a male which have a fuller and wider body.

another way is to do what dinosor did, call the flowerhorn on its mobile phone and ask him directly
