Title: 1000 Point IWs
Description: Hopefully an all comers list.

So I've finally gotten my Iron Warriors up to 1,000 points, go me! Now I'm just having some difficulty figuring out how to field 1,000 points worth of Iron Warriors. <_< I don't usually get the chance to do larger than 750 games around here so this a leap for me.

I'm very torn on the Lord as I'm not usually a fan of the jump packs, I've used him twice in this setup and both times he's jumped out and mutilated a unit...only to be jumped next turn and mutilated himself. So I was thinking about switching him out for a shooty sorcerer or maybe give him the Icon of Tzeentch and the deamon weapon and treat it as a really nice gun?

I'm also not sure on the havoc squad and the flamer in Squad 2, thinking about trying to replace it with a plasma gun and maybe try to add a second special weapon in there?

Any C&C is appreciated though! :D

looks pretty nice so far.

now, for the command and conquer...
i found out that havocs don't work for me, cause you have to place them so early in the game that your opponents deployment can make them pretty much useless. i'd remove them from the list. instead you might want to get a rhino and 2 plasma guns for the second CSM squad. if you really like to have a template give the asp a combi-flamer, cause it's unlikely that you fire the flamer more than once anyways. then i would upgrade the power weapon of squad 2's champ to a fist. finally trade the jump pack on the lord for a bike and the claws for a daemon weapon. finally remove the icon from the lord. that leaves you with 15 points to add survivability to your predator by giving it extra armour. since the havocs aren't there any more you can split the oblits into 2 squads of one so you can kill more tanks a round and have more scoring units. if you like to stick to lightning claws you can also give your lord melta bombs and keep the icon for the same resulting cost.

as for tactics, i'd drive forward with the rhinos, following them with the lord. then disembark and unleash rapid fire hell. if your squads get engaged in combat you can counter-charge with the lord to end them quickly. this way your lord is not unsupported and therefore doesn't die like a fly to an enemy couter charge. if your opponent doesn't charge, you can charge next turn with both squads of csm and the lord which should make life very hard for almost anything in a 1000 points battle. meanwhile your oblits slog forward (slowly) and kill tanks and criple squads while taking objectives. i'd use the predator to distract fire from you rhinos and soften up infantry units so you can wipe them out by charging or rapid firing them.

if you're still reading this: i hope it helps and have fun.

Thanks much for the feedback. :)

I changed a few things and I have 25 points left and am a bit worried about putting too much into my lord. The more I think about it though the more a mounted Iron Warrior Lord makes sense, fluff wise he very well could a breach commander or some such. But for some reason I feel a bit light on marines...

i'd definitely add extra armour on the pred, when he gets stunned, you can still move 12 inches into cover or into a better position next turn, which is a big diffrence from standing still and not be able to shoot.
i think the list looks pretty good. great mobility, firepower and close combat both against horde and elite armies. you migt be low on marines, but you got many vehicles for 1000 points.

I recently played a 750 game using a variation of the original list posted (basically take away the rhino and havoc squad) and I lost very few models. One of them was my Lord however...as usual he did something really cool and then tragically died afterwards.

1st Game (750) he butchered an Inquisitor Lord and his retinue then was promptly jumped by two Death Cult Assassins. He killed them but was taken down himself.

2nd Game (1,000) he butchered a Blood Angels Veteran Assualt Squad and was then jumped by a Chaplin and some Death Company.

3rd Game (750) he jumped out and prepared to assualt a wounded Grey Knight Grandmaster, in the shooting phase I decided why not crank out that one pistol shot (as far as I know he keeps the pistol with he gets the lightening claws?). That one shot hit, wounded and somehow the Grandmaster failed his 2+ and died...my Lord was then blown away by a lascannon dread.

Needless to say I'm definatly looking at a bike Lord as a viable optian!
