Quick question here.
Im working on some new ideas for a kill team and/or small army.
So picture this. Say you have a group of IW that somehow have been banned from thier Warsmith's band of might Iron Warriors.
So say the rouge IWs go out on their own and begin to follow a differnt path.
What do you think the most likely (and for modeling), coolest path that the rouge IW would take?
Would they stick to IW ways, or go down the road to further damming through service to Khorne or Slannesh.......or even Nurgle?
Any ideas would be nice.
And cool conversion ideas anyone has floating around would also help.
Possibly 'true' Possessed? The IW seem distrustful of the daemonic, only willing to use it when it's under very strict control i.e. daemon-powered bionics, and Daemon Princes themselves. Sorcerers also strike me as being a bit roguish, my own sorcerers are more akin to Techmarines, seeing the Warp as an energy source to be tapped and used for technological gain. For example, instead of casting Doombolt, they'd build a device that tapped into the warp and directed it's energy in a manner that achieved the same effect. The intent being to get the results in a more precise manner and at lest risk to the wielder than painting pentagrams and exposing their mind to the Warp. So Sorcerers that used 'traditional' means when there's an alternative would probably spark the infamous Iron Warrior paranoia, that he was 'up to something', or simply is a ticking timer on a daemonic incursion.
Depending on how tolerant your Warsmith is of 'cult' followings (Khargoth stamps out cultist activity at every turn within his own Company, he is extremely paranoid that any worship of one particular god will invoke the jealous wrath of the others), you could make a band of cult extremists that have been exiled from their comrades.
The other thing is, depending on your own armies' standpoint, you could create a small warband of 'good' IW, who are disgusted with the direction their comrades are progressing in, but still see the Imperium as an enemy that betrayed them and will destroy them at a moment's notice for their 'betrayal'. I'd imagine there would be many bands of rogue Space Marines that objected to the Heresy, but escaped being murdered by those who dedicated themselves to Chaos.
My own 32nd Grand Company are a little adrift in the galaxy. They've aligned with Chaos because they seem them as the greatest power in the universe; doing otherwise is foolish. But whether they believe Chaos is the right way to live varies greatly throughout the company. If not for their unified fierce loyalty to Iron Warriors as a whole, and their hatred of the Imperium they would have turned upon themselves aeons ago.
I like Khargoth's idea of troops that fell to the allure of one of the 4 powers and choose to follow that path more than the path of a truw IW. painting that god's mark over the iron skull on the shoulder pad would be a good way to show this, I don't know of many warsmiths that wouldn't be really pi :curse: ed off if some lousy cult zealot did that. Another possability is xenos taint, imagine if some trusted IW warriors were led astray by the evil tau and their lies about the greater good. marines carrying pulse rifles with blue helmets doing nice things would be interesting to see, though I don't think it's very reralistic, I mean treachery has it's limits.
hmm... come to think of it marines with pulse rifles would be nice.
hmm? It would be interesting.....pulse rifiles....
I think I mught go along the above mentioned path of the cult worship.
Seems like a plausible thing....
Now to get some bits to make em proper converts.
There was the example of the Khorne worshipper in Storm of Iron, maybe a bit of bezerker bent? The other gods are too messy, magic oriented or hedonistic (IMHO) for IW's.
The other option could be combat engineers for hire. The IW's being the best at building and destroying fortifications, they could work with Corsairs like Huron Blackheart or Commander Farsight.
IW's with pulse rifles, nah - too puny compared to a bolter. IW's would like the rail cannon or seeker missiles - big bang, little package.
Maybe a good fluff piece for the rogue IW's is that they stole some plans or piece of equipment that their warsmith wants back; then the chase is on.
Good luck.
