Title: Apexi Rsm Install.
-GSG- - March 18, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
Hey there.
Just bought myself an Apexi Rev/speed meter this week.
Could someone tell me where the factory ECU is so that i know where i can mount the RSM without running out of wire?
Im going to get it fitted by an auto electrician, because I dont want to risk it. Do they have to know alot about wiring these up?
It has a G-force sensor but the wiring instructions are in japanese etc.
Does anyone have instructions in english?
Thanks for the help

ECU is in the big black box in the engine bay on the Passengers side just
behind the radiator (opposite side from the airbox in the RS200)

I have the same install. Not difficult to install. They will require the ECU wiring diagram to locate the correct ECU connections.
The ECU is highlighted in red (under the black plastic cover).

Connections to the ECU

RSM wiring through the existing firewall grommet.

Placement of RSM. I mounted the G-Force sensor in the area under the dash tray.

well that was nicely answered. Good pics there Stephen.

Yea that was a good answer.
What are the three other wires on the g sensor meant to b connected to?
The instructions are in japanese.

The connector from the G-sensor connects to the rear of the RSM.

Yea theres a plug for it, but also three extra wires.

Since the wiring supplied wont reach the ECU from the dash did You just add more wire?
Cheers

Tip: I used 5 core trailer cabling to extend the wiring to the ECU. A very tidy install....rather than a bunch of cables thru the wirewall.
woollyman - November 23, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
The three extra wires on the G-Sensor are to connect to a Data Logger. Not sure if Apexi sell one, but that's what the instructions say.

The Apexi RSM does not offer performance improvement. It's only a meter to measure/record rpm, speed, g-forces, battery etc.

yeah its just there to look good  .......and test my 1/4 mile abilities haha

Would somebody happen to have an ECU diagram for GXE10R (1G-FE) or know which wires need to be spliced into, for me to install the RSM?
Stephen - February 28, 2006 09:42 AM (GMT)
Due to demand, I have written up a DIY guide for installing an Apexi RSM.
Apexi RSM InstallationAs usual, please take care when modifying your vehicle's electrical components. The Club nor its members will be help liable for any damages caused.

Thanks for the instructions! Very clear and helpful ...
A few things to note:
* Some of the colours are incorrect (on the wiring table), or it could just be my car
* I hooked it up according to the pin numbers and it works great! Speed pulse setting is 4P (for GXE10R 2.0)
* At one stage when I started my car, the engine warning light came on and the TRC control light came on and started flashing. Restarted the car and it worked fine. It was just a once off.
* I did a rough measurement (after calibration of G sensor) and pulled a 0.96 lateral G on a big 180 turn near my house. Not sure if the sensor is wrong or something, but that seems a bit high for cold + crappy street tyres??

Good that the install worked out fine. I will check the wiring colours. They were taken from the Lexus electrical manual. Thanks.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for putting an effort on writing us the installation of RSM.
But for somehow, the ECU diagram of an IS200 is slightly different from an Altezza AS200. The C block you have mentioned that was the speed pin for IS200 is happened to be disappeared in my AS200.
Do you know the correct speed pin for AS200? Thank you in advance.

Let me see what I can find out. I only have the wiring manual for Lexus IS200/300s.

They also work in the RS200Zs with the 3S-GE engine correct? All posts have been with the IS200s pics, also where is good to get one in Auckland for a good price

Hi Chhopstik,
What Altezza did you install it on? is it the AS200 model?
If so, please advise me of where the speed plug is located. Thank you.

Let me know if you have difficulties.
Chopstik - July 26, 2006 11:29 AM (GMT)

Stupid Mechanic fiddled with mine and now its not reading proper speed and rpm...

The attached file doesn't seem to work, can any mods fix this (possibly a problem after the forum crashed the last time?)
cpufix - November 17, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
Tried download no go.
Matty can you give us another copy of file in different format.
Cheers
Matty - November 27, 2006 08:42 AM (GMT)
hmmm, well i tried to attach it, but the file is too big. I will get hold of keith, and pass it onto him. it is the full RSM installation.
Have passed on the file to Matt @ Altezzaclub Aussie, to be hosted on there site. Waiting for him to send a link there :)

Hi guys, just wondering if the RSM is 'car-specific'???
Or do they work on all cars?
Thanks.

they work on any car, they have a wiring diagram (as above), and a programing guide (seperate, although i do have a pdf if you need).

I know this is an old thread but need some help with my RSM. I installed it as per manual on my MT Rs200 but it didnt remove the speed limiter @ 180kmh. Has anyone wired theirs to remove the speed cut? Or can anyone point me in the direction of a ECU diagram that will do this? Cheers
alimac - May 5, 2007 07:19 AM (GMT)
I seem to recall reading somewhere that the RSM doesn't remove the speed cut on our computers. Pivot speedmeter x does though.
xnickx - May 5, 2007 08:51 AM (GMT)
Seems to be only for the Autos, works for the 6 speed RS200s (been in one)

Hi, Just want to clarify the wiring for the RSM (trying to apply this on the manual model)
So as per the factory RSM manual there are the following wires:
Red - Ignition
Orange - Constant Power
Yellow - RPM
Black - Ground
Peach - Speed Output
Purple - Speed Input
Stephens manual shows the following:
Red - Ignition
Orange - (Where did this go to?)
Yellow - RPM
Black - Ground
Peach - (does the speed wire get cut so this does the output as per the factory manual ?)
Purple - Speed Input
Just curious to see the purpose of the orange and peach wires during Stephens install (or anyone else who attempted it)
