Title: Components
Description: has anyone changed the tweeters

AMM - May 16, 2006 05:18 AM (GMT)
Was just wondering if anyone had put in aftermarket components in the front.
If you have did you put the tweeters in the sail things, or put them into the door panels?

Any help would be great! (and pics if you have them)

Cheers, Anita

hey there

i have installed aftermarket components in the front doors and the tweeters wouldnt fit in the stck location

as you see in the pic this is where i placed them, they seem to be a bit bright tho so may consider mounting them lower in the future

Hi,

All depends on the size of the tweeters, I have a set of Boston SL60s in the fronts and the tweeter fits snugly in the stock location.

These are 1in tweeters, but mind you, not all 1in tweeters are 1in

I took off the stock tweeter from its mounting bracket and stuck it on the new tweeter.

:woot:

thats the standard fitment into the sails, however from playing around with placement with my tweeters (Diamond Audio Hex) i found the kicks sounded the nicest but trying to source some spare kicks found to be quicte difficult so i made my own brackets to mount the tweeters as the factory mountings had my image offset a bit, but my advice with component speakers which are know to have beight tweeters (boston focal Mb Quart) i would suggest attenuating them and see how they sound before you fit off your crossovers.

I like a warmer laid back sound so eventually i will move them to some custom kicks but for now ill just plod along the same.

I have never had desirable outcomes with flush mounting tweeters high in doors (eg 180sx 200sx) deep in the A pillars and in the kicks have worked for me quite a bit.

Was it very hard to built the new door pod for your speakers?
I have new Infinity components sitting next to me but not sure if they will fit into the stock speaker pods (even if I do cut out the old speaker and use them as a spacer or make a set of spacers myself).

Anyone by any chance happen to have a template for the spacers or kickpanel's pods?

Nick

umm it took quite a while. Had to hack up the door and then fibreglass but im happy with the way they turned out and that was my first attempt fibreglassing

hey thanks guys,

I think for now I will try to find some tweeters that fit in the sails - now I know 1inch ones will fit - thanks ayanami - i know i know i could have just measured!

We fitted the tweeters flush into the panel of my old car - looked great, really professional looking job - but not wanting to alter the Altezza doors too much at this point in time - no doubt that will come!

Car is sounding okay now - aftermarket HU, new 6x9's, cheap crappy sub and amp (all except 6x9s were in my old car)

:D

new 6x9's

Thanks mapple, they look pretty good, just gotta find a 'how to' site on fiberglassing haha.

Anita, how did you fit the 6x9s into the parcel tray? Did you use a spacer? Also any idea on the size of the stock speakers?

Thanks

to do a nice door pod on our cars is quite tricky, heres a nice one but it requires the removal of the whole lower pocket, also ask Mr Singh for a pic of his he's are works of art especially considering the depth of the speakers he has fitted!

Hey,

We just drilled new holes and screwed them in. No probs - been listening out for rattles but seems all good.

by the way - thanks guys for instructions on seat removal/parcel tray removal - helped heaps

The stock speakers were 6x9s too - my Tez doesn't have that super live whatever it is sound system so I don't know if that has anything to do with the size - but no factory amp :)

Oh sweet, cause mine wasn't the Super Live system either, sweet no need for spacers for me either then :), thanks Anita. Cause most other members only have the Super Live System and couldn't tell me what size the stock speakers were. (aparently had some people tell me the Super Live System had 7"x10"s)

Just new holes and that was all? Did it not fit the stock speaker mounting holes and also did you leave the cover from the parcel tray on? Thanks (always full of questions :P)

Mr Singh - Very nice door pods mate, looks awsome almost stock apperance, I have to start looking around on tutorials on how to fiberglass :P . Very very impressed.

Yeah - just lined it up and marked from underneath (in the boot) where we needed to drill and drilled from inside the boot. The new speakers didn't fit the stock speaker holes due to the different bracket thingees on the pioneer speakers and stock ones.

Left the standard parcel tray cover on.
I like my stereo to sound good - not attact too much attention from the wrong sort.
I know too many people round here who have had their speakers showing and it didn't take long for someone to break in and wreck their cars to steal them.
