I've just deleted a few of the avatars that were over 100kb.

They should be about 30-50kb, so they are displayed at full size.

If you load a 400kb file onto Invisionfree it will store it & send it all to everyone's computer, which will then display it as a 120x120 image.

If you don't have a re-sizing program, send the image to myself or Thunderbird or someone in the Director's team and they will re-size it for you and send it back for you to re-load.

I took another run through them and chopped a few out.

Having a 500kb or even a 1meg avatar just slows loading time, as the max it can display is 120x120pixels.

That's about 20kb.

I tend to chop out anything above 100kb...

If yours has vanished, email me a copy to asbestos@ihug.co.nz or T'bird or Jasestu or any moderator really, and we will re-size it to 120x120 & send it back for you to upload.

It also takes the distortion out that is so common in a picture forced to display itself very very small!

Hey has anyone had any problems updating their Avatar?

I'm changing mine, it says it's successful and re-directs me, when the page reloads it shows my original avatar but stretched/warped.

try refreshing the page (hitting F5 a couple times) or clearing your internet cache

is the new avatar the front on shot of your car in a coastal background?

Update: Managed to get it updated but it still looks warped and out of porportion!

its because the aspect ratio of the shot doesnt match the avatar size

try cropping the photo into more of a squarish shape, and see how it goes

fair enough, the aspect ratio the's suggested 120X120 isnt a good size, my acdsee won't do that, it'll only do 120X90.

Oh well, settled for another one that looks semi normal!

It is actually much bigger than that I think-

When i downloaded it from your post it opened as 800x600 pixels.

If I resize it in photoshop it becomes 120x90 and looks like this-

You can download this image and use it as your avatar, or post up any photo you'd like to use adn I'll resize it then re-load it up-

Thanks greeneyes, I did originally try the 120X90 but it looked warped hence me using the 800X600 which when uploaded looked in proportion

Just realised the upload section was setting it to 120X120 making it looked warped.. Changed it to upload & display it 120X90 - much better!

Hi, for the life of me, i cannot update my avatar. I can successfully remove it, but as soon as I update, populate the dimentions and hit upload the old one reapears..WTF :blink: :unsure: :(

Ok- chopped out some more that were 100-900kb

I've re-sized them and will email them out to half-dozen guys concerned, or you can just re-size your own to 120kb wide and post it up.

Keith, I see your avatar and Nick's avatar totally different to the screen captures above haha and that doesn't matter which computer I'm on or what I'm running (PC or Mac). See attached to see if it's correct.
