Title: Insurance
Description: price agreed value

FLEX - September 19, 2006 01:55 PM (GMT)
Ok - so I renewed my insurance today and behold ... premium has gone up from $1100 to $1800 ! Im like WTF ..?? and the agreed value of my car has also drop from a last years price of $38,000 to a crappy $19,700 in ONE YEAR ! This is with all my mods included in the premium insurance.

This is with AAMI.

so I decided before renewal I would suss out what NRMA, ALLIANZ, JUST CARS, GIO, etc and to my surprise - insurance was all above $2000 even with 60% no claim for life ! and the value of the car is only worth $19,000.

Apparently - the older our cars get - the more expensive insurance would be regardless of age or no claim bonus only because luxury parts for these cars are becoming rare and expensive ...

<_< i will be upgrading now ...

$70Ks for a IS250 or $57Ks for EVO9 ...

So-

In Aussie 12guys pay an average of $1230, min $600, max $2000, av value $25k

In NZ 14 guys pay an average of $745, min $333, max $1356, av value $20k

black200 - September 19, 2006 02:15 PM (GMT)
yeah same with me joe...down from 35k to 21...but no matter, i plan to never sell this car

EVO9 joe!!! for sure. I didn't know you were thinking about one of those aswell!!! Evos are stupidly quick :) EVO will make an impression ;)

Blue - September 19, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
how dare you start @#??#@ EVO rofl

FLEX - September 19, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
Not that I will be getting an EVO ... its just at the back on my mind that its 20Ks less :) and its such an awesome all round car !

Anyway - I am now with GIO because they were highly recommended.

Blue - September 20, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
even try NZI i got told to stay clear or them but they offered me good deal
not a bad company to deal with

jeremyflower - September 20, 2006 05:24 AM (GMT)
Wow, you guys are paying a lot...

I'm with AA Insurance (in NZ) and for comprehensive cover I pay $934.36 a year with a $300 excess and 60% no claims bonus and an AA member discount. I'm 27 too which might explain a bit... Agreed value of $20k.

What is everyone else paying?

black200 - September 20, 2006 05:43 AM (GMT)
2300 AUD p/y with rating 5 NCB, (2 year of non-claimant history with this insurer), $1650 excess ($2400 if i claim on the $4500 worth of wheels), 'agreed' value of 21k, which is abit over half what i originally paid for the car...

So you're doing alright jeremy!

Insurance almost isn't worth it. Unless your car gets stolen, or someone runs into you with no insurance.

FLEX - September 20, 2006 05:45 AM (GMT)
Thats why its called INSURANCE for "just in case" sceanrios.

If I knew I was never going to have a prang or hit or have the car stolen in the last 5 years I wouldnt have bothered and save myself a heap 'o dollars !

Actually - this is a good idea to see what everyone is paying so you can get an overall feel for the dollars & insurance company

--------------------------------------------------------------

I'll start ...
Depends on where you live will also affect costings - but for privacy reasons, you dont need to disclose where you live.

How old are you? Under 25?

Insurance is definitely worth it.

If someone runs into you and it's their fault they have to pay regardless of whether they have insurance or not.

The major reason I have insurance is for if that happens to me, as it did when I was younger... not pretty being dragged through small claims courts and stuff when you're only 16...

The other reason I have (comprehensive cover) insurance is because it's required by my finance company. But at the end of the day I feel that a $1k a year is fairly well justified should I have a coming together with someones Ferrari... Hate to pay for something like that out of my own pocket.

I really must ring them up and see if going back to factory mags and getting my full licence will make any difference to anything...

read the last line of what i said mate!! Its not worth it, unless someone runs into you!

If some uninsured tard hit me, then my insurer will have my car fixed no problem, and it will be up to them to chase the offender for the money. I have a 19 y.o friend who hit a parked taxi in the middle of the road. (long story short, wasnt his fault - who parks a taxi on a blind corner in the middle of a wet night with no lights on??)

he had no insurance (it was his sisters car) so took everything out of his name and put his stuff in other's names. Now there are 4 separate insurance companies chasing him for money because the taxi went on to his 4 other cars (taxi was in neutral with no park brake applied).

Now i know that if i was one of those victims i would rather have my insurer chase my friend for the money, rather than me having to hassle him!

Anyway i'm 20, so that *might* explain the high excess - that and i techincally live in 'gore hill' which is an industrial suburb.

Hopefully when i'm 25 shannons will insure me, and overlook my claims, my driving record and the fact i dont have a garage to park my car in

For all that have full comprehensive for around the $1,000 pa mark, you guys are doing well. Was told that it was the area that my car was kept at night is classed as high risk so hence up went the premium.

Apparently, they don’t care that my car sleeps in a locked double-brick garage, behind a locked 6ft gated property and that is parked in a secured underground parking during work hours.

The Dam insurance Fockers (all of them in NSW), deem my car as being in the same risk as my neighbor’s car who parks on the street at night and leaves it at the train station during the day.

All that they are concerned about is the location of where it sleeps at night. Damn Fockers!!!

Talk about stand-over tactics.....

Don't go just car greeneyes, they are owned by AAMI and getting a claim through them is impossible.
I've found westren QBE is generally the cheapest.
RACQ are also good.
Suncorp is good at claims too but generally expensive unless you have multiple policies

greeneyes - August 22, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
Thanks for that- I will keep at it next week.

We've got a couple of houses in Qld to put on it too.
