Title: Giltrap City Toyota
Description: Service Report
AndyC - March 27, 2007 11:30 AM (GMT)
Well my car is coming up on 100,000km's so I thought it was time to book it in and have it checked, serviced and the cambelt replaced. So here is a breakdown, it may give some of you an idea of what to expect. I hope it is useful :)
I talked to Brian at Giltrap, he was really good, he rang me before they did anything we had not previously discussed and had all the prices outlined for me.
It cost a bit more than I was expecting, $1174, which was a bit of a pain. I did get a discount for being in the club. 10% on Labour and 15% on parts. After seeing what discount Mr K got there I was hoping I would get a bit more off, but i'm still very happy with the $114 discount. Really makes that $30 a bargain!
So here are the details.
105,000km service (approx $227 - I supplied TRD oil filter)
Adjusted Handbrake
Rotated Tyres
Fixed loose earth wire
Checked wiper fault
Replaced 2 rear bulbs
Replaced R/H Axle seal ($160)
Removed drive belts, pulley, powersteering pump and air conditioning. Removed cambelt covers and replaced cambelt tensioner and supplied bearings (I supplied the tensioners and idler). Replaced cambelt and leaking water pump.
Assembled and filled cooling system with new coolant (50/50 mix). Bleed cooling system.
Changed gearbox oil ($80)
Parts
Water pump - $120
Cambelt - $45
They used 10W Magnatec oil in the service.
Labour - 7.4hrs @ $100p/h
- Apparently if the water pump needs replacing there is a lot more labour involved hence the unexpected price tag.
Overall I'm happy, the service was really good, the work was carried out by Lexus mechanics, I got a reasonable discount, I have an Altezza service schedule so I know what to expect at the next one. I know the car has had a good working over and is mechanically sound, they also cleaned the outside, did my wheels, tidyed the inside and sprayed the inside with new car smell :) I just need to save a bit more now to get some panelbeating done...

Thanks for the write up Andy.
Mine is due a service in the next couple of thousand k's and Giltrap City is the most convenient place to have mine done. It will be the first service its had since I got it.
Cheers,
Sim

Booked mine in this morning for its first full service and installation of a TRD clutch and flywheel.
The guy I booked it in with was quick to point out the possibility of vibration issues with the single mass flywheel so I'm guessing they've put a couple in before. Fair enough, I was aware of that anyway.
Had a call from them a few hours later to tell me they'd come across some additional things that need to be looked at.
There's a seal in the gearbox that needs replacing and the water pump also appears to be on its way out - neither of them being small jobs. They said they'd replace the cambelt along with the water pump.
So, looking at big dollars already even without the basic service and clutch install. I'll get an itemised list together once it's all finalised. Looking like a two day job.
Hooray for the VIP discount and with any luck I'll be able to claim something back on my mechanical insurance.
Stay tuned...

Just clicked over 85k.
I'm beginning to think she may have had a bit of a hard life. :(

Could be them looking for extra work..
Waterpump/cambelt should last over 100,000, and hard work shouldn't affect the pump.
The garage in Sydney that steamcleaned Greeneyes said they would put it on the road for $2700, but the guy at RTA said they were ripping me off, the car doesn't need an engineering certificate.
Its just so hard to tell...

I guess that's always the danger.
Anyway, we'll see how we go...

Righto, itemised list as promised.
15k service as per schedule - car has done 85k but I have no prior service history
Removed drive belts, pulley, power steering and aircon pumps
Drained cooling system
Replaced oil filter ($40)
Replaced leaking water pump ($120)
Replaced Cam and Drive belts (might as well while the water pump is out - $35 & $45)
Removed gearbox, clutch pack and flywheel - rear main seal leaking oil, replaced ($108.35)
Fitted TRD clutch and flywheel (supplied by me)
Re-routed piping to dysfunctional window washer, replaced two bonnet clips
Replaced wiper rubbers
Replaced high stop brake bulb
Power steering flush
Injector clean
Engine oil replaced with 10W-30 Magnatec oil
Basically $1820 all up - $1300 of which was for 12 hrs labour.
This is all after the club discount on parts and labour which saved me almost $250. If you are not a VIP club member, do it now - $30 well spent.
Turned out somewhat more than I'd originally expected, but given the amount of work done I'm not complaining. The car feels tight and it was returned to me cleaned inside and out.
